Chapter 24 Zhaojiagou

Zhaojiagou is a beautiful place with beautiful mountains and rivers.

Zhaojiagou is nestled against the vast Daqing Mountains, rich in flora and fauna. Hare, pheasant, roe deer, astragalus, codonopsis, and Panax notoginseng—if you're lucky, you can easily find one or two during a trip.

During the great famine a few years ago, the green trees and grass on the Daqing Mountain suffered greatly. All the edible things went into people's stomachs, and the Daqing Mountain was almost becoming a bald mountain.

In the years since the disaster, Daqing Mountain has been closed to forest conservation, and indiscriminate logging is prohibited. However, there are still one or two poor people who secretly go up the mountain to cut down a few trees and take them to Daxing City on the other side of the mountain to sell.

Those were all from other villages. Zhaojiagou, near Daqing Mountain, hadn't experienced any such incidents. Under the leadership of Zhao Qingshan, the village of more than 20 households had a good atmosphere, with villagers helping each other and no such incidents of sneaking around had ever occurred.

In that era, every village had a youth sent to the countryside center, and young men and women from the city would go to the countryside to experience life when they reached a certain age.

There was also a youth educated youth settlement in Zhaojia Village, where three or four youth educated youth lived.

When city dwellers go to the countryside and see that the living environment in the countryside is not as good as in the city, working in the fields is tiring, and they still can't fill their stomachs all year round, they will definitely miss their hometown.

But once in the countryside, returning to the city was no easy task. It wasn't until the past six months that policies began to loosen up, and I heard that some families of educated youth with means were already finding ways for their children to return to the city.

There are more and more outsiders, and their hearts are not in the countryside. The village head and the village party secretary are very troubled.

Zhaojiagou is under the jurisdiction of Sanhe Town.

After Zhao Qingshan retired from the supply and marketing cooperative, the Sanhe Town Party Committee secretary persuaded him to take over as Party Secretary of Zhaojiagou Village. Zhao Qingshan was a veteran Party member, a combat hero, and highly educated, so the town leaders felt reassured with his appointment.

Time flew by. Zhou Yuanyuan spent three days in the hospital, and after being discharged, she and Zhao Yunxiang returned to Zhaojiagou. Zhou Jiasheng was still staying with Zhao Guohui in town, having just returned to Zhaojiagou last Saturday.

In the blink of an eye, Zhao Yunxiang and her daughter had already lived in Zhaojiagou for more than ten days.

Although Zhao Yunxiang was eager to go home, she could not bring herself to say that she wanted to go back to Zhoujia Village when she saw her daughter's unconcealed smile, her lively chattering, and her daughter's gradually red and round face every day.

Before getting married, Zhao Yunxiang lived in Zhaojiagou every day and felt at ease. After getting married, Zhao Yunxiang always felt a little awkward and uneasy when she returned to Zhaojiagou to live permanently.

Although Zhaojiagou is a good place and her father and brother are very good to her and her daughter, Zhao Yunxiang always feels empty inside.

In rural areas, married daughters are like spilled water. Year-round, married daughters can only return to their parents' home as if they were visiting relatives, and a short stay of three or two days is the limit. Staying for ten days or more like Zhao Yunxiang was something no married woman would dare to dream of.

In those days, every household was struggling. More people meant more mouths to feed. How much food would be needed day after day? Besides, even if my parents didn't care, how could my brothers and their wives not care?

The situation in Zhao Yunxiang's family is different. Zhao Yunxiang knows that her father Zhao Qingshan's salary can support her family, and her brother's wife Xu Liqin has also expressed her opinion, allowing her to live in her parents' home with her children.

However, Zhao Yunxiang still felt uneasy.

As a married daughter, not only can she not help her parents' family, but she also often takes advantage of them. She has no face!

Life in Zhoujia Village was difficult, but it was home. Zhao Yunxiang was a traditional woman who believed that home was wherever her husband was. After marrying into the Zhou family, she didn't care about her mother-in-law or sisters-in-law, as long as Zhou Zhixin treated her well, she didn't care.

Although her parents' home is good, it no longer belongs to her!

Zhou Yuanyuan watched coldly and guessed some of Zhao Yunxiang's thoughts.

In the past few days, Zhou Yuanyuan has been trying to find out Zhao Yunxiang's attitude towards Zhou Zhixin in a roundabout way.

In her previous life, Zhou Zhixin's bizarre death earned Zhao Yunxiang the nickname "hooligan's wife." Zhou Yuanyuan and Zhou Jiasheng were also called "hooligan sons," and were spat on wherever they went.

In those days, adultery was a serious crime, not to mention that Zhou Zhixin was a veteran. Even worse, according to the woman, Zhou Zhixin and she had been "in a relationship" for several years.

Zhou Yuanyuan didn’t know whether Zhou Zhixin was really a “gangster” in his previous life, but because of Zhou Zhixin, she, her mother and brother were all greatly hurt.

After her rebirth, Zhou Yuanyuan felt indescribable pity and guilt towards her mother Zhao Yunxiang and brother Zhou Jiasheng, but she had no good feelings towards her father Zhou Zhixin.

Zhou Yuanyuan refused to believe that Zhou Zhixin was unaware of his wife's situation in the Zhou family. To prevent his mother from going to the army and causing trouble, and to avoid having to wear his green military uniform, Zhou Zhixin had left the three of them in Zhoujia Village, where they were constantly bullied. This was Zhou Zhixin's fault.

As a husband and father, Zhou Zhixin was negligent in his previous life. For the first few years, he focused solely on his military service and his beloved career, neglecting his children's upbringing. After his retirement, Zhou Zhixin died in humiliation, before he could do anything for his wife and children.

Zhou Zhixin's death was not a big deal; it was all over. The embarrassment was for his surviving wife and children, who had to endure the world's indifference and criticism for him.

In Zhou Yuanyuan's opinion, a father like Zhou Zhixin was worse than nothing. If Zhao Yunxiang was willing, Zhou Yuanyuan would fully agree to her severing ties with the Zhou family and Zhou Zhixin.

However, Zhao Yunxiang was deeply in love with Zhou Zhixin.

After several days of indirect inquiry, Zhou Yuanyuan came to this conclusion.

Zhou Yuanyuan was quite distressed by Zhao Yunxiang's inability to think straight.

Zhao Yunxiang's inability to leave Zhou Zhixin had derailed her plan. Originally, Zhou Yuanyuan had intended to use her grandfather and uncle to get Zhao Yunxiang out of the Zhou family, so that she and the Zhou family would go their separate ways, ideally until they died without any further contact.

With the advanced knowledge in her head, Zhou Yuanyuan is confident that she can lead a good life with her mother. Even if Zhou Zhixin is no longer in their lives, they can still live a good life.

If possible, Zhou Yuanyuan wouldn't mind Zhao Yunxiang finding a second love. Three-legged frogs are hard to find, but two-legged men are plentiful in this world.

Zhou Yuanyuan was confident that with her mother Zhao Yunxiang's appearance and character, it would not be difficult to find a man better than Zhou Zhixin.

Zhao Yunxiang's stubbornness caused Zhou Yuanyuan a lot of trouble.

Zhou Yuanyuan felt a touch of sadness when she thought about having to spend the rest of her life with those idiots from the Zhou family. Damn it! Stay away from them, stay safe!

Zhou Yuanyuan felt like she was about to pull out all the hair on her head. With the road to escape blocked, she had no choice but to think about the possibility of fighting her way out of the Zhou family.
