Zhou Zhixin was so anxious that his words became incoherent and he himself didn't even know what he was saying.
"You're protecting us? What can you use to protect us, mother and daughter? Zhou Zhixin, be fair. You'll be gone in a few days. If anything really happens to us, mother and daughter, by the time you come back, the grass on our graves might be a foot long." Zhao Yunxiang was filled with hatred and didn't even give Zhou Zhixin any face. Whenever she thought of Zhou Zhixin's near-death experience, Zhao Yunxiang felt that nothing she said could alleviate her anger.
"Yunxiang, I..." Zhou Zhixin was at a loss for words. Indeed, he was far away from home, and if anything happened, he could only worry and could not help at all.
"Zhou Zhixin, I'm tired. I don't want to live like this anymore. Let's get a divorce! The children will be mine, and I will raise them well." Zhao Yunxiang didn't want to say any more. She said too much, and the heart-wrenching words were too hurtful.
"No, Yunxiang, I won't divorce you." Zhou Zhixin was shocked. He stood up and hugged Zhao Yunxiang's shoulders and said, "Yunxiang, you can scold me and hit me if you are unhappy, but don't even mention divorce. I will never agree to it."
"Dad, Mom, stop arguing." Zhou Jiasheng was playing in the yard when he heard Zhou Zhixin and Zhao Yunxiang talking in the room, their voices getting louder and louder. He quickly ran in to see what was going on. Seeing that Zhou Zhixin and Zhao Yunxiang were both red in the face, Zhou Jiasheng thought his parents were arguing.
"Son." Zhao Yunxiang broke free from Zhou Zhixin's hands, squatted down, hugged Zhou Jiasheng, and cried.
Zhao Yunxiang felt truly exhausted. Years of tolerance hadn't earned her a shred of goodwill from the Zhou family. Her daughter had nearly died, she had nearly been arrested, and now it was Zhou Zhixin's turn. Who would be next? Jiasheng? Zhao Yunxiang simply couldn't take it anymore. Seeing Zhou Jiasheng reminded her of the Zhou Jiasheng in her nightmare, grown up with a disfigured face and destined for prison. She was overcome with grief, unable to stop crying.
"Yunxiang, don't cry, let's talk it over!" Zhou Zhixin stood there, bewildered. Zhao Yunxiang wasn't one to cry easily, and this was the first time in all their years of marriage that Zhou Zhixin had seen her cry so heartbrokenly. She wailed, as if trying to expel all the resentment she felt through her cries.
"Mom, Mom, wow..." Zhou Jiasheng didn't know what was wrong with his parents, but he could sense the grief in Zhao Yunxiang's cry. Zhou Jiasheng stretched out his little hand to wipe away the tears on Zhao Yunxiang's face, but Zhao Yunxiang's tears were too many and flowing too fast. In less than half a second, his little hand was soaked by more tears.
Zhou Jiasheng had never seen Zhao Yunxiang like this before. In his mind, the mother had always been a mother who spoke softly and smiled gently, and would shake her head and not take any difficulties to heart.
Zhao Yunxiang cried miserably, and Zhou Jiasheng felt scared and couldn't help but cry loudly too.
"What's wrong? What's wrong? You guys are worried about me when I'm not at home for a while." Zhao Qingshan's loud voice rang out in the yard.
After Zhao Qingshan and his team finished their business in Zhoujia Village, they were all in high spirits, pedaling their bicycles like a whirlwind. Zhao Guohui had other matters to attend to, so he stayed in Sanhe Town and did not return.
It usually takes more than an hour to ride from Zhoujia Village back to Zhaojiagou, but Zhao Qingshan and Wen Ziqing only took about 40 minutes.
As soon as Zhao Qingshan entered the room, he heard Zhou Jiasheng wailing loudly. Thinking the child had been naughty and beaten by Zhao Yunxiang and the others, he quickly spoke up to defend him. It wasn't the right time to hit a child on New Year's Day.
Arriving at the village entrance, Zhou Yuanyuan habitually took a quick look around the house. She knew exactly why Zhao Yunxiang was crying. However, she didn't try to explain to her grandfather. She felt that Zhao Yunxiang's assertiveness in front of Zhou Zhixin was a significant improvement.
Zhao Yunxiang had sobered up a bit by the time Zhou Jiasheng burst into tears, and she stopped crying. That's why when Zhao Qingshan and the others entered the yard, they heard Zhou Jiasheng's cries instead of Zhao Yunxiang's. Otherwise, Zhou Zhixin would have had a lot of fun today. He'd made his wife and son cry in Zhaojiagou? Zhao Qingshan would have beaten him without mercy.
"Dad, it's okay. Jiasheng accidentally fell and I was rubbing his face." Zhao Yunxiang heard Zhao Qingshan's voice, quickly wiped away her tears, and replied. In front of her father, Zhao Yunxiang still habitually defended Zhou Zhixin.
Hearing Zhao Yunxiang say this, Zhou Zhixin's face lit up with gratitude. Zhou Zhixin knew his father-in-law's temper. Over the years, Zhou Zhixin had always been respectful in front of Zhao Qingshan. Of course! If Zhou Zhixin hadn't behaved well, Zhao Yunxiang wouldn't have been so devoted to him. This person! You respect me an inch, and I respect you a foot, especially the Zhao family.
"Oh, my little grandson, you little man now, why are you crying after falling down?" Zhao Qingshan walked in with a smile and joked with Zhou Jiasheng.
"I, I didn't..." Zhou Jiasheng's crying had already subsided when Zhao Qingshan opened his mouth. Although Zhou Jiasheng was young, he knew that crying during the New Year was not pleasing to others.
However, he was not the only one crying today. It was all his mother's fault. If his mother hadn't cried, he would definitely not have cried. Zhou Jiasheng was about to open his mouth to defend himself when Zhao Yunxiang took over the conversation: "Dad, where have you been so early in the morning? Are you hungry? There is food in the kitchen. I'll go heat it up."
Zhou Jiasheng was so anxious that he scratched his head. He really didn't understand what these adults were thinking, especially his mother. She insisted that it was him who cried when he was crying. She really wronged him.
When Zhou Yuanyuan saw Zhou Jiasheng like this, she couldn't help but smile.
This is her home, this is her family, caring for each other and protecting each other.
Wen Ziqing looked at Zhou Yuanyuan's smile and couldn't help but tighten his grip on her hand. The gentle touch of her hand softened Wen Ziqing's heart. For the first time in his two lives, Wen Ziqing felt truly happy. Holding onto this little hand felt like holding onto all the happiness in the world.
His little girl hadn't smiled so happily for a long time. Today was great!
When Zhou Jiasheng saw his sister smiling happily, he quickly broke free from Zhao Yunxiang's hand and ran over.
"Sister, I've noticed a little sparrow that often comes to Grandpa's yard looking for food. After eating, it flies back up to the wall. I'm on good terms with it! It's not afraid of me at all." Zhou Jiasheng had been wanting to show off the sparrow to Zhou Yuanyuan and Wen Ziqing since he'd spotted it early in the morning. Unfortunately, Zhao Yunxiang thought they were all asleep and wouldn't let him disturb them.
"Brother, is that true?" Facing such a cute Zhou Jiasheng, Zhou Yuanyuan didn't mind becoming a childish little girl and showed great interest in a little sparrow.
