Chapter 410: Struggle

In order to accompany He Qiusheng to the amusement park, Cao Yumei got up early that day to arrange the He family's affairs for the day.

After the mother and son returned home at eight o'clock in the evening, Cao Yumei dragged her tired body to listen to the servants of the He family reporting the big and small things that happened in the He family throughout the day. She was busy until twelve o'clock before she could start washing and going to bed.

He Qiu Sheng's wish to let his mother have a day off was dashed. Cao Yumei accompanied him to the amusement park for a day, which was more tiring than doing things at home.

From then on, little Qiu Sheng behaved well and no longer asked any requests from his parents.

Late at night, when everyone was asleep, Cao Yumei sighed to herself as she looked at her son sleeping beside her.

When did the young girl with a heart full of love become the little woman who sighs from time to time? Cao Yumei is already thirty-five years old, and this year happens to be the tenth anniversary of her marriage to He Boqian.

After ten years of marriage, Cao Yumei was exhausted both physically and mentally, from her hope to gradual disappointment.

Ten years ago, Cao Yumei felt that He Boqian loved her. Coincidentally, He Boqian's elegant demeanor was exactly the type of man Cao Yumei liked. For love, Cao Yumei married He Boqian without hesitation, despite the objections of her parents and brother.

Ten years later, Cao Yumei is no longer sure about her "love" for He Boqian. After living in the He family for so many years, Cao Yumei finds that the He family members live with a mask on all the time. Even at home, the He family members will not take off the mask and reveal their true selves to others.

Because of this understanding, Cao Yumei began to wonder: Was the loving He Boqian who appeared to her before their marriage actually real? If He Boqian truly loved her as much as he had shown back then, why wasn't his attitude towards her as gentle and considerate as she had assumed after their marriage?

Over the past two years, these questions have frequently surfaced in Cao Yumei's mind. In fact, if she were asked to pinpoint any wrongdoings by He Boqian towards her, she couldn't come up with one. Besides frequently traveling without disclosing his whereabouts, He Boqian didn't seem to have done anything else inappropriate.

He Boqian has a very similar temperament to He Shumin. Whether he is happy or unhappy, it is difficult for others to tell on his face. Cao Yumei has lived with him for so many years, and can only tell how He Boqian feels from some small movements in his daily habits. For example, when He Boqian is deep in thought, several fingers will move involuntarily, and the speed of movement is neither fast nor slow, but even. When He Boqian is anxious, he will tap the table with his index finger, one by one, slowly and heavily...

Cao Yumei felt that there was something wrong with her marriage to He Boqian. Before marrying He Boqian, Cao Yumei already knew that He Boqian had a cold temper, but after ten years, even if it was a piece of ice in her warm heart, it would melt, right?

But what happened? Ten years later, the ice cube was still ice cube, but Cao Yumei's enthusiasm had begun to cool down.

Cao Yumei knew that He Boqian and He Shumin's biggest complaint about her was that she hadn't returned to her parents' home to help the He family win over her father and brothers. However, her father, Cao Yunfei, and Cao Yumei's brothers were all straightforward, and for them to follow He Shumin's lead, that would require He Shumin to have real ability.

The person the Cao family members admired most was General Zhou Jinyu. He served his country and his people with no selfish motives. His noble character and principles earned him the deep love of the Cao family members.

Shortly after Cao Yumei married into the He family, she and He Jingjing went to her parents' home several times to try to stop her nephew, Wen Ziqing, who had returned to the Cao family for a short stay. As a result, Wen Ziqing ran back to Qingshan City. For the next few years, Wen Ziqing stopped visiting the Cao family to avoid He Jingjing.

Because of this incident, Cao Yumei was scolded by her mother. Mother Cao scolded Cao Yumei for not using her brain. Not only did she want to jump into the He family's mud pond alone, but she also dragged Wen Ziqing along with her?

Cao Yumei's enthusiasm was dashed. Only then did she understand why her parents and brothers had reacted so strongly to her marrying He Boqian. However, Cao Yumei's awakening came too late. The marriage was already done, and she couldn't give up a marriage she had been looking forward to just because her parents disapproved.

It was late at night, but Cao Yumei had no desire to sleep at all. She felt a little thirsty.

There is no kettle in anyone's bedroom in the He family, so if they want to drink water, they can only go to the living room on the first floor.

Cao Yumei endured it for a few minutes, but her thirst overcame her reluctance to get up. She quietly opened the door and turned on the light in the hallway.

The He family mansion was quiet, and the dim light shining on the ground made Cao Yumei feel a little cold.

Touching the goose bumps that had appeared on her arms, Cao Yumei suppressed her fear and walked downstairs. At this moment, Cao Yumei remembered the only good thing about He Boqian when he was at home, which was that he would go downstairs to get her a glass of water when she was thirsty in the middle of the night.

In the quiet He family mansion, a painful groan came from somewhere.

Cao Yumei was startled and stopped pouring the water. When she listened carefully again, there was no sound at all, as if the groan just now was a figment of her imagination.

Cao Yumei stood there quietly for half a minute, still no sound. She picked up the water cup on the table and gulped down a large glass of water. Feeling her thirst eased considerably, Cao Yumei didn't even bother to clean up the cup, leaving it on the table. She hurried up the stairs and returned to her bedroom.

After Cao Yumei closed the door, she saw He Qiusheng's fair and tender face sleeping peacefully under the dim bedside lamp. Cao Yumei reached out and touched He Qiusheng's forehead and body. The temperature was normal. Cao Yumei felt relieved and lay down beside He Qiusheng, listening to the child's rhythmic breathing, and gradually fell asleep.

In He Jingjing's bedroom on the third floor of the He family home, a series of barely suppressed moans of pain emanated from the sleeping He Jingjing. In the darkness, a cloud of white mist appeared above He Jingjing's head. If He Jingjing were awake at this moment, she would have seen the cloud of mist above her head in the mirror. The way she struggled bore a striking resemblance to the way she had appeared before her death in her previous life.

The white mist seemed to be driven by something, pushing it out of He Jingjing's body bit by bit. The white mist refused to leave He Jingjing's body and desperately drilled back into it.

He Jingjing's body curled up, and her muscles trembled uncontrollably. Soon, sweat soaked through her pajamas. Every time He Jingjing trembled, a little more of the white mist left her body.

The intense pain made He Jingjing's eyelids move, as if she was about to wake up from sleep.
