Chapter 588: Avenue

The Great Dao of immortality, the Great Dao of Immortality, in the eyes of Taoist Baopu, is paved with layers of blood and bones. Taoist Baopu's lifelong refusal to accept disciples wasn't due to his arrogance or disdain for those of ordinary caliber, but rather a secret buried within him. Taoist Baopu's single-minded pursuit of the Great Dao made him unwilling to be like his master, who expended countless efforts, time, and spirit stones, only to raise three ungrateful individuals.

That’s right, they are three ungrateful people. One is Taoist Baopu, and the other two are Taoist Baopu’s senior brother and junior sister.

Taoist Baopu and his fellow apprentices all possessed single spiritual roots of excellent aptitude. They had been adopted by Immortal Tianyan since they were around eight years old. Immortal Tianyan treated his three disciples with great kindness, generously providing them with any elixirs or magical treasures they could use, and was also very attentive in teaching them the techniques.

Unfortunately, no matter how hot the flames were, they couldn't warm three cold hearts. I don't know if it was God's fault that he arranged these three black-hearted people to be disciples of Tianyan Zhenren.

Tianyan Zhenren possessed a somewhat naive personality. For centuries, he had cultivated within his sect, rarely traveling for experience. He possessed numerous high-level magical instruments and elixirs inherited from his master. He never hid any of these from his three young disciples. Whenever he felt like it, he would share these treasures, explain their origins, and discuss his aspirations for the future.

In Taoist Tianyan's heart, his three disciples were raised by him personally. He was impartial to them and would leave a share of any good things he had for them.

One day, Taoist Tianyan was about to embark on a dangerous mission. The mission was so treacherous that the Yushan Sect mobilized all three Nascent Soul cultivators and ten Golden Core cultivators, one of whom was Taoist Tianyan. Upon hearing the mission's peril and the uncertainty of returning to the sect alive, Taoist Tianyan left his entire fortune in the storage ring with Taoist Baopu for safekeeping.

True Man Tianyan had made plans. His cultivation resources were a huge fortune. If anything happened to him, his three disciples could go further on the road to immortality with the help of those resources.

Unfortunately, Tianyan Zhenren's earnest efforts were not appreciated by his three disciples. After Baopu obtained his master's storage ring, he noticed that his senior and junior apprentice brothers and sisters looked at him with a sinister gaze. For a period of time, the three of them went everywhere together. Baopu knew that the deep affection that appeared to outsiders was actually naked distrust. His senior and junior apprentice brothers and sisters were afraid that he would take the master's storage ring and take advantage of his death to enrich himself.

As luck would have it, on this life-threatening mission, all but one of the Jade Mountain Sect's Golden Core and Nascent Soul cultivators were annihilated, save for True Man Tianyan, who returned severely injured. Seeing the dying True Man Tianyan, murderous intent flashed in the eyes of the Baopu brothers and sisters.

Tianyan Zhenren's injuries were severe, and to heal him, he had to use the resources that Baopu had left behind. Furthermore, even if Baopu used up all of Tianyan Zhenren's resources, he would only be able to save his life, but his entire cultivation would be wasted.

For the sake of magic weapons, spirit stones and elixirs, the three brothers and sisters of Taoist Baopu took advantage of their master's serious injury and suddenly took action at the same time, jointly killing the old man Tianyan. Then, for the sake of those cultivation resources, the three brothers and sisters fought to the death.

That battle lasted for three days and three nights, and in the end, of course, Taoist Baopu emerged victorious. The losers, Tianyan Zhenren and Taoist Baopu's brothers and sisters, naturally died.

Of course, the explanation given by Taoist Baopu to the outside world was: Master Tianyan was seriously injured and died. When his senior brother was treating his master's injuries, his meridians suddenly became disordered and his spiritual energy flowed backwards, causing him to go crazy. The crazy senior brother could not recognize anyone and killed people indiscriminately, accidentally killing his junior sister. And Baopu accidentally killed his senior brother during a battle with him, and so on...

Relying on the immortal cultivation resources left by Taoist Tianyan, Taoist Baopu broke into the Jindan stage after thirty years of cultivation from the foundation-building stage.

A cultivator who had cultivated from the late Foundation Establishment stage to the Core Formation stage in thirty years was already considered a remarkable talent in this time and space. Taoist Baopu felt a sense of pride. It seemed that the heavens had taken pity on his childhood loneliness and specially blessed him with such excellent cultivation aptitude. The path to immortality lay before him.

From then on, Baopu Taoist felt that taking in disciples was just a waste of his time. He even had to share some of his cultivation resources. Why bother? He was so alone, the only one respected in Jinping Peak, and his life was so carefree and happy.

The happiest fifty years for Master Baopu during his early Golden Core stage were just around the time when cultivators were moving from the secular world into the Langyuan Secret Realm. As the foremost sect of immortal cultivation, the Yushan Sect was allocated the best training environment, and one-third of the best areas of the Langyuan Secret Realm became the Yushan Sect's property.

Jinping Peak, one of the five best peaks in the Yushan School, was named after Taoist Baopu.

Decades later, the Jade Mountain Sect's leader, Tiansuo Zhenren, passed away, and the sect elected a new leader. Three Nascent Soul cultivators and ten Golden Core cultivators had died during that mission. For a time, the sect's high-ranking cultivators seemed to be lacking in talent.

The fastest cultivator, Bao Pu Zhenren, caught everyone's attention. The cultivators thought that once Bao Pu Zhenren became the sect leader, he would definitely reveal the secret of his rapid cultivation speed for the sake of the sect's development. They would all benefit from it, which was simply too perfect.

Master Baopu thought that after becoming the sect leader, he would know exactly how many cultivation resources there were in the sect. He could use the position of the sect leader to get some benefits for himself, and no one in the sect would dare to object.

In this way, Taoist Baopu became the head of the Yushan Sect.

There is a secret book in Tianyan Zhenren's storage ring, which says that in ancient times, a cultivator could possess another body after his physical body was damaged.

After Taoist Baopu became the head of the sect, he had some free time one day when he was cleaning the storage ring in his hand and saw this secret method.

Taoist Baopu glanced at it and tossed the secret technique into the corner of his storage ring. In his opinion, possession of another's body was an unorthodox method. For a cultivator like him, with his single fire root, achieving the Divine Transformation stage should be a piece of cake. At that stage, a lifespan of tens of thousands of years would be possible, and shattering the void and ascending to immortality would be a piece of cake.

What was the result? One hundred years after another, Baopu Taoist had only progressed from the early stage of the Golden Core to the middle stage. Seeing his lifespan running out, Baopu Taoist hadn't even reached the late stage of the Golden Core, let alone the Nascent Soul stage.
