Ren Dahai felt that his mother hadn't changed her selfish ways after all these years. To say that he didn't care about her life or death was to accuse him of being unfilial. He had no idea how many eyes were watching him from his position.

Ren Lao Niang had called Chen Qiuyu more than ten days before she knew she was coming to Ren Dahai's house. Chen Qiuyu's refusal angered Ren Laonian and Ren Xiaohua. The two women rushed over like crazy, grabbed Chen Qiuyu's hair, pushed her, and called her a "jinx", a "vicious woman", and "hoping that the Ren family would suffer misfortune".
