Chapter 97

"Li Chunjiao, Li Chunjiao, come out here." Outside the gate of Zhou Chunping's house, an aggressive woman put her hands on her waist and shouted. Her voice was so loud that the whole Zhou family could hear it.

Just by hearing the voice, Wu Jinfeng knew the visitor was up to no good. In rural areas, even when someone called out to someone, their tone of voice would be gentle. Someone who shouted loudly upon arriving was most likely looking for trouble.

Wu Jinfeng glanced at the distracted Zhou Jiaqin with disdain, pulled out a pair of clean pants, threw them on him, and headed to the front yard. It just so happened that she didn't want to smell Zhou Jiaqin's urine, and someone knocking on the door was a good opportunity for her to practice her rhetoric.

"Who is looking for Chunjiao? Chunjiao has gone back to her parents' home." Wu Jinfeng walked to the door and recognized the person at a glance as Aunt Qiuju's daughter-in-law Ma Qiulan.

Ma Qiulan's face was not looking good. Aunt Qiuju was helping out at Zhao Yunxiang's house today and hadn't returned home at noon. Ma Qiulan was worried, so she asked her youngest daughter Zhou Qianqian to go to Zhou's house to check on her while she went out to the vegetable garden to cut some cabbages.

In just a few moments, Qianqian was tripped by Zhou Jiaqin, causing her lips to swell up and a front tooth to be knocked out. Wasn't Zhou Jiaqin too much of a bully?

"Auntie, it's good that you're at home." Seeing Wu Jinfeng, Ma Qiulan hurriedly took two steps forward and said, "Auntie, you have to keep a close eye on Zhou Jiaqin from the eldest house. He's been acting like a tyrant in the village all day long. Today, he made my daughter Qianqian fall down. She bled a lot and broke a front tooth!"

Is this even happening? Wu Jinfeng was stunned. She had gone to the market early this morning and when she returned she saw Zhou Jiaqin's face covered in blood. She had no idea this kid had gotten into trouble before.

"Qiulan, when Chunjiao comes back later, I will ask her to bring Jiaqin to your house to apologize." Wu Jinfeng was a flexible person. Seeing Ma Qiulan's face full of indignation, she spoke more nicely.

"Well, I know that my aunt is a sensible person, so I will go home and wait." Ma Qiulan saw that Wu Jinfeng was sincere in admitting her mistake, so she turned around and went home without any more nonsense. Before coming here, Ma Qiulan thought that she would have a quarrel with the women in Zhou Chunping's family today.

I didn't expect Wu Jinfeng to be so easy to talk to today. If that's the case, why is she still staying here? There are still a lot of things waiting for her at home!

Wu Jinfeng rolled her eyes in anger behind Ma Qiulan. Really? She was just being polite, and Ma Qiulan didn't even bother to offer a polite response? Going to apologize? Going to apologize isn't just about talking; you have to bring at least a dozen eggs!

Wu Jinfeng felt a sharp pain in her heart. All the eggs in the Zhou family belonged to her, and it was really painful to give away so many at once.

It is said that after Zhou Chunping came out of Zhou Dazhu's house, he was completely dazed and walked home with one foot deep and one foot shallow.

Along the way, Zhou Chunping gnashed his teeth. He planned to find Zhou Zhigang and ask him about it after returning home. Then, he would beat that guy up. Why not learn something else? Why learn to play with women like Zhou Hongming?

At this point, Zhou Chunping still believed that Zhou Zhigang had been led astray by Zhou Hongming. His eldest son, such a loyal and honest man, had gritted his teeth and married Li Chunjiao even though he had chosen the wrong person during the blind date. This alone proved that his son Zhigang was not a man who only cared about appearances. No matter how good-looking the educated youth from the city was, it was impossible for her to win Zhigang's heart.

But that old bastard Zhou Dazhu was clinging to Zhigang. Asking Zhao Qingshan to come up with a solution? He really had the guts to think of one.

How nice it would be if grandpa were still alive!

Zhou Chunping thought of his grandfather, who loved to protect his own people, more than once. Zhou Geming's health was neither good nor bad back then. He was in his fifties. Even though he had been injured on the battlefield and his legs and feet were not very convenient, he could still eat two taels of rice for a meal!

Zhou Geming almost died from diarrhea. A few days later, he died without having a chance to explain anything.

Zhou Chunping never imagined his grandfather would die young. Even after getting married and having children, he still spent his days wandering around. Only after Zhou Geming's death did Zhou Chunping calm down and return to work to support his family. If Zhou Geming were still alive, given his protective nature, Zhou Chunping's life would have been much easier.

Liu Moli's return to the city was difficult for Zhou Chunping, but it was a piece of cake for Zhou Geming. What a pity! Zhou Geming had been dead for almost thirty years, and Zhou Chunping's thoughts were just comforting himself.

What a life! How should he get through it? Would Zhou Chunping have to move again as he aged? Thinking of the large house he had lived in in Daxing City during his childhood, Zhou Chunping's eyes moistened slightly.

"My fellow villager, may I ask something?" A middle-aged man stopped Zhou Chunping and handed him a cigarette with a smile on his face.

Daqianmen? What a good cigarette! Zhou Chunping glanced at the cigarette shell in the middle-aged man's hand and marveled inwardly.

Rural people smoke by growing a few tobacco plants at home. After they grow up, they pick the leaves, dry them, and cut them into thin strips. When they want to smoke, they take a small handful and put it in their pipe, or roll it into a trumpet with paper to make a simple cigarette.

The middle-aged man's cigarettes were obviously not homemade. They were the Daqianmen brand, produced by the Shanghai Cigarette Factory. It was very famous at the time and was also expensive. A pack of twenty cigarettes cost about fifty cents.

Ordinary workers couldn't afford cigarettes that cost fifty cents a pack. Only cadres and above would buy them.

"Old man, I'd like to ask how to get to Zhou Chunping's house?" When the middle-aged man saw Zhou Chunping accept the cigarette he handed over, the smile on his face deepened a little, and the way he addressed him also became more polite, from "fellow villager" to "old brother."

If he guessed correctly, the old man in front of him should be Zhou Chunping, otherwise, he would not have stopped him to ask for directions. However, Zhou Chunping in the photo looked very young and had a spirited demeanor, unlike the old man in front of him, with a decadent face and a vicissitudes of life.

Looking for him? Zhou Chunping lit a cigarette and observed the middle-aged man silently.

The middle-aged man, wearing a blue woolen Mao suit, looked like a high-ranking official from the city. He casually passed around Daqianmen cigarettes and seemed to come from a well-off family.

Why would such a person come to see him? Could it be that... he came because of what happened in the past?

Zhou Chunping was startled, and the two fingers holding the cigarette began to tremble.

So many things happened that day. Zhou Chunping hadn't recovered from the Zhou Zhigang incident yet, and now he encountered this wave?

"Uncle, be careful." The middle-aged man was quick-eyed and quick-handed. He picked up the cigarette that slipped from Zhou Chunping's fingers, handed it back, and reminded him casually.

"What do you want from Zhou Chunping?" Zhou Chunping took the cigarette, and his pounding heart gradually calmed down.

The middle-aged man probably had no ill intentions, otherwise he wouldn't have said so much nonsense to him, Zhou Chunping thought.
