Mr. Tang took the cup and gulped down more than half of it. The woman reached for it again, but Tang Yuanyuan took it first. The woman's hand paused in mid-air, but she still smiled slightly, not feeling embarrassed at all.
"Brother Tang, you're back just in time. A regular customer said they absolutely must try your cooking," the woman said with a smile.
"I'll go make it right away. What do they want to order?" Before he could even catch his breath, Mr. Tang was already heading to the kitchen to get to work.
Ye Qingqing frowned and deliberately asked, "What kind of regular customer is it that has such a big reputation that they insist on having the owner cook for them personally?"
The woman glanced at her, her eyes flickering, and said, "She's a regular customer who comes here often. There's nothing I can do; I can't just turn away a customer!"
The tone seemed to be accusing Ye Qingqing of being ignorant and not to talk nonsense.
Ye Qingqing felt uncomfortable listening to this. She was a regular at Baiweiju. Who was this woman? She was even more concerned than the proprietress. Could she be Tang's father's girlfriend?
She knew that Gu Nianci had been introducing a potential partner to Tang's father recently, and it was very likely that this woman would be the future boss's wife. After all, Tang's father's actions when he was getting water earlier seemed quite natural. Ye Qingqing held back and decided to ask Tang Yuanyuan later. If it was a family matter, she wouldn't say anything to avoid getting into trouble.
"Dad, don't be busy yet, take me to see which regular customer it is," Tang Yuanyuan said to the woman.
The woman paused for a moment, then said, "It's the family we always come to eat at."
“Most of the people who come here to eat are regulars, and none of them are this high-class. Besides, how do they know that the food wasn’t made by my dad? What did you say to the guests?” Tang Yuanyuan’s tone became more stern.
The woman's expression changed slightly as she looked at Mr. Tang. Ye Qingqing, who was watching from the side, saw it clearly. The woman's eyes were quite something; they looked pitiful, as if she had suffered a great injustice.
Seeing Tang Yuanyuan's attitude, she immediately understood what was going on and said, "Could it be that you said something to the guest, which is why the guest insisted that Uncle Tang cook?"
"No, Tom, I really didn't say anything. They brought it up themselves, I..."
As the woman spoke, her eyes reddened, and she looked like a wronged and aggrieved little wife. Tang Yuanyuan was annoyed and wanted to say something to her, but her father couldn't stand it and stepped in to smooth things over, saying, "Guests come first, I'll do it right away."
Ye Qingqing noticed that the woman's eyes suddenly lit up with smugness, but her face still looked aggrieved. She was a typical "white lotus" in the eyes of a man, and a very old one at that. She wondered where Mr. Tang had picked her from.
Mr. Tang rushed to the kitchen, and Tang Yuanyuan gritted her teeth in anger. Ye Qingqing gave her a wink and pulled her to the lobby, where they saw the woman from earlier go to a table of guests, smile and say a few words, and they seemed to have a good relationship.
"What does this woman do? I've never seen her before?"
Tang Yuanyuan gritted her teeth and said, "My dad picked her up from the roadside. She had fainted on the roadside. My dad kindly took her to the hospital and even paid the medical expenses. Later, the woman came to our door and said she couldn't pay the medical expenses and wanted to work to pay them back. My dad was soft-hearted and kept this vixen."
"How long have you been doing this?"
"It's been less than two months, and she's quite efficient. She doesn't ask for a salary and lives and eats at the hotel, but my dad still pays her a salary, just like everyone else." Tang Yuanyuan was extremely upset. Because of this woman, she couldn't even have a good New Year.
Ye Qingqing found something was off. The guests at that table were clearly not from the city; they looked like they came from the countryside. It wasn't that she looked down on rural people, but the countryside was far away. Who would bother to come to the city to eat for no reason? How could they be regular customers?
