The things on the truck were finally unloaded. As darkness fell, the villagers went home to eat. Tie Dan's mother and her two daughters-in-law went to the kitchen to prepare dinner. Tang Yuanyuan was exhausted. She took a bath and went to bed to rest. She hadn't woken up by dinnertime.
"Tiedan, call your wife over for dinner."
Tie Dan's mother had laid out the dishes, with chicken, duck, fish, and meat all prepared, creating a large table that was even more lavish than during the New Year.
"I'll go take a look."
Tie Dan went upstairs. Tang Yuanyuan was still sleeping soundly. Tie Dan didn't have the heart to wake her, so he covered her with a blanket and tiptoed out.
"Yuanyuan is still sleeping. Leave some food for her, she can eat it when she wakes up." Tiedan came back alone, carrying the meat bun to his side. He left his son alone, he wouldn't go hungry anyway.
Tie Dan's mother looked rather displeased. She had worked so hard to prepare such a large feast, and the girl wasn't giving her any face at all. Was she still holding a grudge against her?
Sister Niu curled her lip and said sarcastically, "Your wife probably thinks the food is bad, not as good as the food in your city!"
"That's definitely not as good as it seems. I've heard that city people eat shark fin, abalone, and bird's nest every day, and they don't even eat chicken, duck, or fish anymore. Tiedan, you're doing well now, but don't forget your second sister." Niu Erjie was a bit more cunning, a smiling tiger.
Moreover, she had her own plans. Her eldest son took the college entrance exam this year, and his results were not ideal, only enough for a junior college. Niu Erjie had her son apply to a school in Pingjiang, so that he would not return to his poor mountain village. She asked Tiedan to help him find a job, buy a house, and get married in Pingjiang. She thought she might even be able to enjoy a better life in a big city!
"Second sister, when did my brother forget you? Didn't my brother pay for your new house? Didn't my brother pay for the fine for having more children than allowed? What more do you want from my brother? To remember you forever? That's the treatment only martyrs and heroes get. You're alive and well now!"
Ya Dan was like a firecracker, and she also scolded Niu Erjie. She wasn't close to her two older sisters, and there was a big age gap between her and her older brothers and sisters. She was only close to Tie Dan since she was a child.
Niu Erjie was furious and pretended to hit Ya Dan, but Niu Dazhu glared at her and shouted, "Why make such a fuss about eating? If you don't want to eat, go home."
"Father, you only side with this wretched girl. Didn't you hear how awful her words were? She even cursed me to die!" Sister Niu said discontentedly.
"Did your sister say something wrong?"
Niu Dazhu mumbled something, and Niu Erjie's face turned red and white, she couldn't bear it any longer, and she even resented her own father in her heart, because he had always favored that brat Ya Dan since she was a child, and was very wild.
"You're always taking her side. You've spoiled her rotten. What man could stand that kind of temper? She's twenty-six or twenty-seven and still can't get married. She's practically an old maid," Sister Niu couldn't help but sarcastically remark.
Ya Dan slammed down her chopsticks in anger. "Did I eat your food and drink your water? My parents didn't say anything. Whether I get married or not is none of your business. You can't even manage your own messy affairs, and you want to interfere with mine? If you say such nonsense in my ear again, don't blame me for being impolite!"
Sister Niu Er was also furious. After all, she was the older sister, and this brat didn't respect her at all.
"I'm your sister, why can't I discipline you? You get all rude just because I said a few words to you? You think you're so great? You're only doing this because our parents spoil you. Let's see how long you can keep up this act. Someone will eventually teach you a lesson!"
Tie Dan frowned. He had a deep affection for Ya Dan and was disgusted by Niu Erjie's words, so he said, "If Ya Dan doesn't want to get married, then she doesn't have to. I'll take care of her."
Sister Niu choked, feeling even more resentful. She said sourly, "Ya Dan is spoiled by you. You treat me not even half as well as you treat Ya Dan. You treat your wife like royalty, while your parents have to take a backseat."
