"Qingqing, do you think I can adopt a child?" Yu Anning suddenly asked.
Ye Qingqing frowned. She felt that Yu Anning was too obsessed with her child. Perhaps it was because her daughter Li Qiqi had dealt her too many blows. She seemed indifferent on the surface, but how could she really be calm and collected?
Adding to her woes, the miscarriage of this child caused Yu Anning to become somewhat obsessed, constantly thinking about the child.
"You should discuss this with Qi Wenyuan."
“I will definitely discuss it with him. I just want to hear your opinion.”
Yu Anning was very conflicted. She had never felt such a strong desire to raise a child before. She was so eager that she wanted to go to the orphanage to see the children right now. She didn't know what was wrong with her, but she just wanted a child, even if it wasn't her own.
"Since you asked me, I'll be blunt. I personally strongly advise against adoption. First of all, your health condition doesn't allow it. Raising a child is exhausting. For the next ten years or so, from infancy to adulthood, you'll be worrying and working hard every moment. Are you sure you can handle it?" Ye Qingqing asked rhetorically.
Yu Anning was stunned. After thinking for a moment, she hesitated and said, "I can hire a nanny."
“Children need companionship. Even if you hire ten nannies, they can't replace the role of a mother. Why isn't Li Qiqi close to you? It's because you haven't spent time with her. Do you want to raise another Li Qiqi?”
Yu Anning's expression changed slightly, and she wavered somewhat.
She's still reeling from just one Li Qiqi; if she were to raise another one, she'd probably lose her life.
Ye Qingqing continued, "Even if you raise a cat or a dog, you have to be responsible for them and can't just abandon them. How much more so a child? You can tolerate your own children no matter how angry you are because you gave birth to them. But if it's an adopted child, you have no blood relation to them, and your tolerance is limited. Are you sure you can tolerate a child with no blood relation indefinitely?"
Yu Anning looked thoughtful. She wasn't sure if she had such a strong sense of tolerance. If she adopted a child but couldn't love him/her wholeheartedly, wouldn't that be a great harm to the child?
“I can’t be infinitely tolerant of children who aren’t my own. I admit that my love is narrow. So I can donate money to children in poor mountainous areas, but I can’t take them back and raise them. If I can’t love them wholeheartedly, it’s better not to bring them back and let them get hurt.”
Ye Qingqing was quite frank. She didn't think she was selfish. Love is inherently narrow; she could only love a limited number of people, and she didn't have that much love for others.
Yu Anning smiled wryly, "I don't know if I can do it."
"You can't try this kind of thing. If you've taken on the responsibility, you have to see it through to the end. If you adopt a child for a few years and then find it's not suitable and return it, you can't do that. That's too immoral," Ye Qingqing joked.
There are quite a few people who do this: after adopting a child, they suddenly become pregnant, or for various other reasons, they no longer want to raise the child and give the child away to others to raise, or return the child to an orphanage, just like buying something and then returning it.
But goods have no feelings; you can return them a hundred times without any problem. Children are different. Their young minds cannot withstand such harm, which could very well affect their development.
After being persuaded by Ye Qingqing, Yu Anning gave up the idea of adoption. It wasn't that she was afraid of the trouble, but she was worried that she wouldn't be able to raise the child well. She had already raised her own daughter to be a defective child, and she couldn't let her harm other people's children.
