Lu Mo blocked her way. "Killing him won't do any good. I think he still has a conscience, and he was probably forced into it."
The fact that Gongsun Lin has remained unharmed for the past three years suggests that the gardener was selective in reporting information and did not reveal everything. A person with a conscience would most likely be forced into becoming a spy.
Gongsun Lin interrogated him a few more times, and the gardener burst into tears, kneeling on the ground and begging for mercy. Unfortunately, Ye Qingqing couldn't understand a word he said.
"How do you know he was forced?" Gongsun Lin looked at Lu Mo with admiration. This man was not only skilled in martial arts, but also incredibly intelligent, much smarter than her brother.
Lu Mo lifted the gardener's left wrist, on which was a watch with a photo on the cover—a picture of the gardener and a handsome boy, both smiling happily.
He had just seen the photo. This watch was custom-made and quite expensive. The fact that the gardener could spend so much money to order such a watch shows that he and the boy had a very good relationship, and they were very likely each other's only support. Although the handsome boy was much younger than the gardener, the gardener was not very old either, which suggests that they were brothers, not father and son.
After hearing Lu Mo's speculation and asking the gardener, Gongsun Lin's mouth dropped open. Holy crap, he guessed it all right! This man is amazing!
She's as good as Sherlock Holmes, able to guess almost everything just by looking at a photograph. She wouldn't even look at the photograph, and even if she did, she wouldn't take it seriously. Is this what my great-grandfather meant by the difference between humans and pigs?
Gongsun Lin looked at Lu Mo with admiration, but her eyes held a different glint in them. Ye Qingqing stepped in front of her warily and snapped, "What are you doing? He's my man. Don't even think about it, or I'll drug you and ruin your face!"
Lu Mo's lips twitched, but a hint of a smile appeared in his eyes.
Gongsun Lin rolled her eyes. "Why are you so nervous? I'm not interested in married men. I just want him to teach me kung fu. You see..."
"No way! Stay away from my man!"
Ye Qingqing interrupted without hesitation. Gongsun Lin had clearly been eyeing Lu Mo. Humph, don't think she hadn't noticed. Beware of fire, theft, and women. She wanted to nip any signs of anything in the bud.
Gongsun Lin pouted, and that annoying handsome face appeared in her mind again, instantly ruining her mood. That annoying guy actually wanted to get married, scaring her away.
She's a staunch non-marriage advocate; she'd rather die than jump into the grave of marriage and become a slave. Gongsun Lin has an innate fear of marriage, mainly because from childhood to adulthood, none of the married women around her have been happy, including her mother.
Her father was no innocent man; he kept several mistresses on the side. Of course, her mother was no pushover either; she controlled the family finances and turned a blind eye to her father's private life because her mother loved money the most. As long as the money was right, everything was negotiable, and her husband could sleep with whomever he wanted.
Gongsun Lin shook her head, reaffirming her resolve: she absolutely, positively would not get married. No matter how sweetly that annoying guy spoke, she would never fall for it!
Ye Qingqing caught a glimpse of her strange, ambiguous expression out of the corner of her eye, and a thought struck her. She leaned close to her ear and whispered, "Were you with Kagel that night?"
Gongsun Lin's body trembled violently, and she vehemently denied it, "That's not true, you're talking nonsense... How could that be..."
Ye Qingqing rolled her eyes. This was clearly a case of trying to hide something, and she didn't press the matter further, as she wasn't interested in other people's privacy.
