By lunchtime, Tiedan and Yadan still hadn't returned. The village was more than an hour's drive from the city, and since they had left early in the morning, they should have been able to make it back for lunch. Tiedan's mother went to the village entrance several times but they still hadn't returned.
"Mom, why aren't Junjun and the others back yet?" Sister-in-law Niu and her husband's sister-in-law also came over.
"I don't know, maybe something came up and kept us waiting. Let's wait a bit longer." Tie Dan's mother went back to the kitchen to cook. It was hot, so lunch was just a simple bowl of noodles with soybean paste and some shredded cucumber. It was delicious!
“What could possibly be wrong? We drive fast, and it doesn’t take this long to buy things. Yuanyuan, why don’t you call Tiedan?” Sister-in-law Niu was a little worried about her son.
Tang Yuanyuan called Tie Dan. It was noisy when the call connected. Tie Dan found a quiet place and said in a heavy tone, "Jun Jun and Zhuang Zhuang are not doing well. The doctor ordered tests and drew several tubes of blood. Two of the results will be available this afternoon. We'll come back in three days to get the other test results. We won't be going home for lunch. I'll find a restaurant to eat at."
Did the doctor say anything specific about the situation?
Tang Yuanyuan is a bit far away, and the results aren't out yet, so it's best not to let Sister Niu and the others hear it, lest those two dim-witted people cause a ruckus.
"He didn't go into details, but it seems like there's a problem with his kidneys, and other functions are also suspected to be impaired. He needs to be checked from head to toe."
"Okay, don't let the kids drink any beverages for lunch, and make sure they eat less meat. I think Junjun and Zhuangzhuang's illnesses are caused by their diets, they need to lose weight." Tang Yuanyuan frowned. Her words had come true; hopefully, the problem wasn't serious.
"Okay, I won't let them eat it."
The doctor said the same thing. The doctor thought Tiedan was a parent and criticized him for having no common sense and raising his child like this. The doctor said that the child must lose weight if he wants to get better, otherwise the situation will get worse.
"Are Tie Dan and the others on their way?" Sister Niu asked in a loud voice.
Tang Yuanyuan thought for a moment and then said, "Tiedan took Junjun and Zhuangzhuang to the hospital for a check-up. The results won't be available until this afternoon. Judging from the doctor's tone, the two children have some problems."
"Impossible! How could Junjun have a problem? Don't curse my son! Junjun is very healthy. Tell Tiedan to come back quickly. Hospitals are bad luck; even healthy people get sick there." Sister-in-law Niu was so angry that she jumped up and down, not believing it at all.
Niu Ersao was a little more tactful than her, but her expression was still unpleasant. She accused, "Why did Tiedan go to the hospital without saying a word? The child isn't sick or in pain, why do you need to do any tests? You city people are so particular."
Tang Yuanyuan was so angry she laughed. She had kindly taken the child for a checkup, but these two people blamed her for meddling. They took her kindness for granted. No wonder people don't want to be good people. If it weren't for Tiedan's sake, she wouldn't care about this family's mess.
"The doctor said the children have a problem, and you're still talking to yourselves. Do you think you're more capable than the doctors? When Junjun and Zhuangzhuang have a serious problem, you'll have your turn to cry. Part of the results will be available this afternoon. We'll know tonight whether they're really sick or if we're just meddling. Junjun and Zhuangzhuang call me 'Auntie,' and I can't just stand by and watch you harm the children with your ignorance."
Tang Yuanyuan is usually gentle and has a soft smile, and she rarely acts so domineeringly. The two sisters-in-law were taken aback and felt uneasy. Could it be that the child is really sick?
Tie Dan couldn't possibly make up a false accusation against his own nephew, could he?
Tang Yuanyuan was so angry that she called Tiedan again, saying, "When we go to see the doctor this afternoon to check the results, record everything the doctor says, so that people won't say we have bad intentions and want to harm people."
