Ye Mingcheng, however, was uninterested. "Impossible. That old swindler is very shrewd. If it were really something good, why would he give it to me for free?"
He still has that much self-awareness.
"Exactly, the people who sell these kinds of things are all female merchants. They wouldn't give such a treasure to Dr. Ye. I think maybe the boss picked it up somewhere and gave it away for free," Dr. Hu guessed.
The old gentleman smiled and said, "I'm just guessing. I haven't really studied this. It feels like an antique."
Ye Mingcheng still wasn't interested. He had suffered too much of a blow today and was seriously doubting himself. He simply didn't think that such a good thing as finding a bargain would happen to him.
Ye Qingqing, however, was more cautious. This old man seemed like a reliable person, and he certainly wouldn't have said those things without some evidence. Maybe her father really did get a bargain!
"Sir, do you know any experts? Could you introduce me to one?" Ye Qingqing asked with a smile.
"If you trust me, it's no problem to introduce someone. I have a few friends who know a bit about pottery." The old gentleman was quite easy to talk to.
"Why wouldn't I trust you? What's your surname, sir?"
"I will refrain from using my surname, Yu."
"Uncle Yu, this is my phone number. You can call me here if you need anything." Ye Qingqing handed Uncle Yu a business card, which was printed by Meng's Hospital and had gold foil stamping, making it look very high-end.
I printed a whole box of them for her; this is the first time she's ever used them!
Grandpa Yu glanced at the business card, his eyes wide with surprise. The title on the business card was quite impressive. Being an expert at Meng's Hospital wasn't something anyone could do casually. Having a degree wasn't enough; one had to prove their medical skills. He never expected Ye Qingqing to be so capable. Indeed, appearances can be deceiving.
"Which department are you in at Meng's Hospital?" Grandpa Yu asked curiously.
"I am a practitioner of traditional Chinese medicine," Ye Qingqing said with a smile.
"So it's from a family tradition of learning." Grandpa Yu assumed it was Ye Mingcheng's daughter who taught her.
Ye Mingcheng quickly waved his hand, "My daughter's medical skills are better than mine. She taught me, but I can't teach her."
Grandpa Yu was stunned. How could a father need his daughter to teach him?
Ye Qingqing carried the two ceramic jars home. She originally planned to use them for flower arranging, but after what Grandpa Yu said, she couldn't bear to part with them. What if they really were treasures? It would be too wasteful for her to use them for flower arranging. She would be heartbroken if they were damaged. She would wait for the experts to appraise them before making a decision.
By evening, Ye Qingqing was itching to get back to work. She didn't know when she would be able to contact the expert on Grandpa Yu's end, and she couldn't relax until he came out. Seeing her impatient look, Lu Mo gave her a suggestion, "Take a picture and show it to your grandfather. Make it clear. The old man is the expert right here. Why are you looking for someone else?"
"Oh right, how could I forget about him? I'll call him first."
Ye Qingqing suddenly had a flash of inspiration. She took out her camera from the cabinet and took several photos of the two pottery jars from different angles. She uploaded them to Ye Xunmei's email and then called him. It was still early, and Ye Xunmei was definitely not asleep yet.
"Your dad got these two ceramic jars? What's the point of looking at them? They're definitely fakes. I'm not looking at them, I'm playing mahjong right now!" As soon as Ye Xunmei heard that they belonged to Ye Mingcheng, she immediately lost interest. He was having a great run of luck and was counting on this game to turn his losses around!
"East wind, kong, oh dear... all one suit self-draw... pay up..."
Ye Xunmei's luck was indeed excellent. She won big while on the phone, which improved her mood considerably. She said slowly and deliberately, "Tell your dad to stop doing those useless things. He doesn't have the intelligence for it. Although the family is not short of money, we can't just squander it. It would be much better to play chess or practice Tai Chi. Why try to collect antiques like others? He's really overestimating himself!"
