Xu Tianlai was young and easily embarrassed. He was scolded until his face turned red. When he got back to the hotel, he started to take a shower. It was his first time using a water heater, and he couldn't figure it out after a long time. He had to call the waiter over.
The waitress was a pretty woman in her early thirties, dressed quite fashionably. She kept her eyes on the sky and never looked at Xu Tianlai. He was a country bumpkin, poor and dirty. If it weren't for Fang Yanming's sake, she wouldn't want to do business with this family.
"Isn't it clearly marked here? The green arrow means cold water, and the red one means hot water. Can't you see it with your eyes?!"
The waiter gave a rather impatient demonstration, while Xu Tianlai listened obsequiously and kept forcing a smile.
Uncle Fang sat smoking, the room filled with smoke, which made the waitress cough several times. She quickly opened the window. It was November, and the wind blowing in was cool and refreshing, directly facing the bed where Aunt Fang was lying.
Xu Tianlai hurriedly said, "My mother is sick and can't be exposed to the wind."
"Smoking while you're sick? Don't you know secondhand smoke can kill you? Put out the cigarette right now!"
The waiter didn't believe Xu Tianlai's nonsense at all. If Aunt Fang was really sick, why didn't her family care at all? They were even smoking in the room. The smell of smoke was so strong that even a healthy person would get sick from it, and a sick person would just choke on it and go to the Western Paradise!
Uncle Fang stubbed out his cigarette in frustration. He was afraid of being fined again. He had only been there for half a day and had already been fined twenty yuan. He couldn't afford to be fined again.
A cold wind blew in, and Xu Tianlai, worried that his mother couldn't take it, pleaded, "My mother is really seriously ill and can't stand the cold wind."
The waiter was skeptical, so he looked towards the bed. The room was small, and after putting two beds in it, there wasn't much space left. Even if his aunt had a terminal illness, she shouldn't have died so suddenly. She was perfectly fine when he saw her at the train station. How could she have died after going to the hotel?
He's only been gone for less than three hours!
Fang Yanming rushed to the hotel, where two police officers were already handling the situation. The hotel staff had called the police. Xu Tianlai and Fang's uncle huddled in a corner, trembling with fear, not daring to breathe.
