Gu Qingqing and Zhang Haiyi followed Ye Yunxi and the others into the base. They saw what the base looked like. It wasn't large; it was basically a factory from before the apocalypse, which they had used as their base.
Ye Yunxi only saw men and women in the base, mostly young people, and the majority were men. She didn't see any elderly people or children.
When they saw Yunzi, their eyes lit up, and they wished they could tear her apart alive. However, they couldn't do it without their base leader's permission.
Gu Qingqing followed Ye Yunxi cautiously and whispered.
"Sister Yunxi, have you noticed that there are no elderly people or children here? There are mostly men here."
Ye Yunxi quickly covered Gu Qingqing's mouth, shushed her, and whispered.
"Now is not the time to talk about this; we must remain vigilant at all times."
With her mouth covered, Gu Qingqing could only nod frantically.
There were quite a few of them, so they had to be arranged to rest in one of the factory buildings.
The base manager led them to a factory building and turned to Li Yan and the others.
"Captain Li, Captain Fang, I'm sorry, our base is rather basic, and this is the only accommodation we have for you. We hope you won't mind."
Li Yan said with a smile, "It doesn't matter, as long as we have a place to stay, we're not picky."
The base manager said with a smile to Li Yan and Captain Fang.
"That's good. You all should get some rest. We'll call you for dinner later."
Li Yan and the team knew what they were there for, and some of them spoke cautiously.
"No need to trouble the base commander. We've had a long and tiring day, and all we want to do is rest. There's no need to worry about food; we have our own rations."
The base leader's expression changed slightly when he saw that no one was moving against them, but he quickly smiled and said to Li Yan and the others.
"Alright, get some rest tonight, and we'll treat you to a proper meal tomorrow."
After exchanging a few pleasantries, the base manager left. Li Yan turned to the others and said...
"We'll rest here for the next few days. Everyone, pack up, have something to eat, and get some rest."
Then people started to move, Fu Heng said to Ye Yunxi.
“We didn’t bring the tent. I’ll go get it from the car. You stay here and ask them to wait for me to come back.”
Zhang Haiyi thought for a moment and then said to Fu Heng.
"Brother Heng, I'll go with you. We didn't take ours either."
Fu Heng nodded, and Zhang Haiyi and the others went to get the tents. Ye Yunxi and Gu Qingqing found a corner, put their backpacks on the ground, and sat down to rest.
Ye Yunxi observed the factory building, which was very spacious. There were some boxes at the very back, but she didn't know what was inside.
The soldiers at their base were organizing their belongings. Li Yan called to several soldiers to carry things and start a fire to cook.
After waiting for a while, Fu Heng and Zhang Haiyi returned, their expressions somewhat somber. Gu Qingqing asked them curiously.
"What's wrong with you all? Has something happened?"
After Fu Heng and Zhang Haiyi sat down, they looked around and spoke in hushed tones.
“When we went to get the tent, we heard some noise from the woods. We went over out of curiosity and saw several people eating a human body. They must be people from the base.”
"Yes, we just took a look and were about to leave when two monsters ran out of the deep forest. They looked like humans, but not quite. They knocked out the man-eating people and dragged them away."
Ye Yunxi's expression turned grave upon hearing this. It seemed her suspicions were correct; they were now resorting to cannibalism. The base manager had just offered them food, but the base was out of supplies—what could they possibly offer them?
Gu Qingqing covered her mouth in surprise, trying not to cry out, and asked in a low voice.
"This base has started eating people, so we need to be careful from now on. Also, what about that monster that looks like a human but not quite? Could it be a savage? But wait, there aren't any savages around at this time."
Ye Yunxi then spoke up.
"No matter what it is, we need to call Captain Li and Master over and inform them in advance. Ah Heng, go and call Captain Li and Master over."

Ye Yunxi gestured for them to sit down, then looked around and spoke to them in a low voice.
"Captain Li, Captain Fang, Master, Professor Hu, please pay attention to what we are about to say. Just now, Fu Heng and Zhang Haiyi went to the car to get the tent and saw some movement in the woods. They saw several people from the base dismembering human remains."
Later, we saw monsters that looked like humans but weren't quite human, which knocked out and devoured the people's remains before dragging them away. I suspect that this base not only eats people, but also harbors strange beings. During the night watch, Captain Li and Captain Fang ordered extra men to stand guard.
After hearing what Ye Yunxi said, Captain Li and the others all looked very serious. They never expected that they would encounter cannibalism and strange people on this trip.
Team Leader Li spoke first. "Okay, we understand. We'll have a few more people keep watch tonight and stay vigilant. You guys also need to be careful."
