Chapter 31

Chapter 31

For the next few days, Lin Li felt like she was being met with resistance.

He was about to go over and say something to Tong Yao when she quickly slipped away, making excuses to get water, go to the toilet, or ask the teacher a question.

During the break, Lin Li stood up from his seat. Tong Yao noticed his movement, immediately closed her book, and walked quickly out of the classroom without looking back.

Tang Yue poked Lin Li's back with her pen cap and whispered, "What kind of crazy thing are you doing now? Be careful someone doesn't take advantage of you."

The "thoughtful person" naturally refers to Xu Feng, Tong Yao's taciturn deskmate.

Lin Li, however, didn't take it seriously: "I think you're overthinking it. Xu Feng seems perfectly normal to me."

Chen Yan, who had been listening intently, suddenly turned around with a look that said, "You're hopeless." She said, "Didn't you notice? The moment Tong Yao left, Xu Feng was no longer in his seat."

Tang Yue and Lin Li were both taken aback upon hearing this.

"Why didn't you say so sooner?!" the two exclaimed in unison.

Lin Li immediately panicked and was about to chase after Tong Yao, but Chen Yan calmly shook her head.

"What's the rush? Maybe it's just a coincidence. But at least he's the class representative for a subject. He collects and distributes homework, discusses problems, and spends more time with us than you do sitting behind us staring blankly."

Li Jiahao, who had been engrossed in his phone, surprisingly joined in the gossip. He looked up and made a startling remark:

"Lin Li, you and Tong Yao aren't officially together yet?"

Lin Li blushed, her neck stiffened, but her voice unconsciously rose, carrying a hint of inexplicable pride: "We...we won't date! Although we like each other, we...we still need to prioritize our studies!"

After he finished speaking, he couldn't help but chuckle to himself.

Everyone wore expressions of disgust, except for Li Jiahao, whose expression was strange. He swiped his finger across the screen and casually dropped a bombshell:

"No way? Weren't you two hugging and kissing?"

As he spoke, he shoved his phone screen in front of them—it was the confession wall on QQ Space, the official account of Yancheng High School. A post he'd just made this morning, accompanied by a picture of Lin Li and Tong Yao embracing tightly on the day of the physical education exam!

The camera angle was extremely tricky; at first glance, it looked as if the two people's lips were really touching.

Lin Li's shyness and silly smile froze instantly, replaced by shock and anger: "Who took this picture?!"

He was extremely disgusted that his private photos had been posted online without his permission, especially since many teachers were watching this confession wall! What if he got caught...

He snatched Li Jiahao's phone and frantically contacted the administrator of the confession wall to request the post be deleted.

However, the other party was unmoved by reason and refused to acknowledge him as "Lin Li himself," insisting that he was an imposter.

Lin Li was so angry that she almost made a video call directly.

"I'll talk to him." Tang Yue couldn't stand it anymore, snatched the phone back, logged into her account, and typed away furiously on the screen.

Sure enough, the post disappeared shortly afterward.

Tang Yue tossed the phone back to Li Jiahao with a clean and swift motion.

Lin Li was both surprised and suspicious: "Why did he delete it as soon as you mentioned it?"

Tang Yue's eyes darted around, avoiding his gaze, and she stammered, "I...I'm more familiar with him."

"You didn't post this, did you?" Lin Li narrowed her eyes, her tone dangerous.

"Of course not!" Tang Yue exclaimed, her voice rising instantly as if she'd been provoked. "Would I have taken this from that unflattering angle? This is clearly a sneak shot! A malicious sneak shot!"

She grew angrier as she spoke, then looked around indignantly, "Tell me, who is so despicable?"

This tactic of diverting attention proved effective, successfully directing Lin Li's anger towards the mysterious paparazzi.

"Why don't you just ask the administrator to give us the poster's QQ number?" Lin Li suggested.

Just then, Wang Hao and a few boys from other classes finished playing basketball and returned to the classroom noisily. Excerpts of their conversation drifted over:

"...Cheng Yuzhen transferred to your class? You guys are lucky..."

Cheng Yu?

Lin Li's heart skipped a beat. Right, she couldn't possibly skip the physical education exam. Transferring to another class? It seemed her suspension was over.

A thought flashed through my mind like lightning.

"Do you think the person who took the photos... could it be Cheng Yu?" Lin Li said in a deep voice, already seven or eight parts certain in his heart.

Tang Yue and Chen Yan exchanged a glance and nodded in unison: "Very suspicious!"

Li Jiahao silently picked up his phone and reminded her, "Tang Yue, you haven't logged out of your account."

Tang Yue took the message and contacted the administrator again, this time successfully obtaining the poster's QQ number.

“31245…” she read it aloud.

Lin Li quickly jotted down the number in his notebook, the pen tip almost piercing the paper. He wanted to see what this person hiding in the shadows was up to.

Just as Lin Li returned to her seat and stuffed the notebook with the QQ numbers into her drawer, she looked up and saw Tong Yao and Xu Feng walking side by side through the front door of the classroom. Both of them were carrying a stack of physics test papers and talking quietly as they walked.

"Tang Yue, is the next class physics?" Lin Li asked, leaning closer.

"Physical Education Class".

Lin Li was even more puzzled, pointing to the stack of test papers: "Then why did they bring so many test papers in?"

"The physical education exams are over, so PE class will probably be changed to self-study now, right?" Tang Yue asked without looking up.

Oh, right. With the junior high school physical education entrance exam over, physical education, as a "minor subject," naturally lost its value. Lin Li felt a pang of regret.

"Then why did they put down the test papers and go out together again?" He stared at the front door, his brows furrowed.

Tang Yue was getting a headache from his questions and couldn't help but kick Chen Yan's chair at the desk in front of her: "Go ask her yourself! Don't be discouraged, boldly pursue your love, I support you in spirit."

Chen Yan immediately understood, turned around and clenched her fist: "Go for it, Lin Li! We all support you!"

Even so, Lin Li still hesitated. Lately, he had been deliberately avoided by Tong Yao every time he tried to see her, and he really couldn't muster the energy to do so.

Chen Yan's eyes lit up, and she came up with an idea: "Lin Li, why don't you go and talk to Physics Teacher Xu and remove Xu Feng from the class representative position, and replace him with you?"

"How is this possible?" Lin Li blurted out. In his previous life, his physics grades were "mediocre," and Teacher Xu had hardly ever given him a second glance. Becoming the class representative? It was simply a pipe dream.

Tang Yue stroked her chin thoughtfully: "I think... this method might work. Teacher Xu seems to have a particular fondness for her favorite students."

She sized Lin Li up and down a few times. "When you were acting all high and mighty a while ago, didn't she often call on you to answer questions?"

Lin Li thought about it carefully and it seemed to be true. At that time, Teacher Xu's gaze towards him was much gentler.

A plan took shape in his mind.

No sooner said than done. In the next physics class, Lin Li put away all his laxity, sat up straight, and focused his eyes on the blackboard, behaving like a model student.

"I'd like to ask two students to come up and solve this problem." Teacher Xu looked around the classroom.

Lin Li's eyes lit up, and she immediately raised her right hand.

Unfortunately, this question was quite basic, and many people raised their hands, so he was not selected this time.

But he didn't get discouraged and remained highly motivated throughout the entire class.

However... a whole class passed, and he wasn't called on even once.

Lin Li wondered if his seat was too far to the side. So, in the next physics class, risking being caught by the homeroom teacher, he moved his desk and chair directly to the center of the classroom, right behind Tang Yue and the others.

"This question is very difficult. Is anyone willing to come up and take on the challenge?" Teacher Xu asked, adjusting her glasses.

The opportunity has arrived! Lin Li was confident and raised his hand again in the silence around him.

Unfortunately, Xu Feng also raised his hand this time.

Lin Li watched as Xu Feng walked onto the podium, a surge of anger rising within him. He carefully recalled the times he had been "ignored," and he understood—

During break, he announced mysteriously, "I've discovered it! Teacher Xu might be a glasses addict!"

Everyone looked at him as if he were a fool.

Lin Li, however, continued enthusiastically: "I've observed them, and the students she selects all have one thing in common! They all wear glasses! Just wait, I'll wear them next class too, I guarantee it will work!"

In the next physics class, Lin Li solemnly took out a pair of black-rimmed reading glasses that she had somehow found, put them on, let out a long sigh, and moved the desk and chair behind Tang Yue again.

"Just watch, this time it won't be bad." He pushed up his glasses that had slipped down to the bridge of his nose.

"Okay, good luck." Tang Yue suppressed a laugh and gave a perfunctory clapping.

Teacher Xu stood on the podium, her gaze sweeping across the class. When she saw the familiar glasses on Lin Li's face, she paused slightly, a flicker of surprise crossing her eyes. This child… could it be…?

"This question is very difficult. Is there anyone willing to take on the challenge?" she asked.

Xu Feng still raised his hand, but Lin Li was no longer as eager as before. He restrained his excitement, raised his right hand properly, and his eyes behind his glasses were full of expectation.

The next second—"Lin Li, come here."

Sure enough! The teacher is a glasses addict! Lin Li was overjoyed, glanced smugly at Xu Feng, and strode confidently to the podium. He had decided that from now on, those glasses would be welded to his face during physics class!

When class ended, Ms. Xu called Lin Li to the podium and said earnestly, "Lin Li, keep it up!" She was referring to his positive attitude towards learning.

Lin Li completely misunderstood, convinced that he was sure of it! It meant he wanted me to continue wearing glasses!

He adjusted his glasses and answered solemnly, "Yes, teacher, I will definitely keep it up!"

As he stepped down from the podium, he keenly noticed a gaze—Tong Yao, who usually ignored him, was also looking at him!

Could it be...?

A bold conjecture emerged. Lin Li adjusted her glasses and strode over.

"Tong Yao." He stopped, speechless for a long time.

"Mmm." Unexpectedly, Tong Yao actually responded, although her voice was very soft.

Lin Li was overjoyed and pressed his advantage: "Are you like Teacher Xu too?" He pointed suggestively to his glasses.

"What?" Tong Yao clearly didn't understand his thought process.

The class bell rang just in time, and Lin Li could only suppress her excitement and return to her seat.

This is a history lesson.

He couldn't help but lean forward and whisper to Tang Yue, "Major discovery! Tong Yao seems to be a glasses enthusiast too!"

Tang Yue: "..."

Not wanting to be harassed any longer, she simply pulled out a novel and threw it at Lin Li, trying to shut him up.

Lin Li glanced cautiously at the cover—"Where Did the Aloof School Prince Go?"

Thankfully it's not a horror novel... It's a romance novel, barely readable.

He quickly became engrossed in the lesson, not even noticing a dark shadow flash past the classroom window.

The homeroom teacher, Liu Hongli, appeared silently outside the window at some point. She frowned, and her sharp gaze swept across the classroom like a searchlight, finally settling on the back row.

"Bang!" The classroom door was suddenly pushed open with a loud bang, startling even the history teacher who was reciting scriptures on the stage.

Liu Hongli ignored the history teacher and fixed her death stare on someone in the back row.

Tang Yue reacted quickly, taking advantage of Teacher Liu's inattention, she turned around and snatched the novel back from Lin Li's hands—saving one person is better than nothing, Lin Li, good luck!

Lin Li was so engrossed in reading that she only realized something was wrong when the book was snatched away, and her face turned deathly pale.

Oh no! He forgot to move the tables and chairs back to their original places!

“Lin Li,” Liu Hongli said coldly, “now, move the tables and chairs to the doorway.”

After saying that, she gestured for the history teacher to continue the lesson, and then turned and went back to her office.

Lin Li dejectedly picked up the tables and chairs, but suddenly an idea popped into her head.

"The doorway" didn't specify which doorway... He moved the table to the front doorway, to Tong Yao's right and slightly in front of her, and sat down calmly.

Seeing Tong Yao less than half a meter away, looking down at a book, he quickly took out his glasses and put them on, not forgetting to straighten his collar.

The moment he put on his glasses, he clearly saw Tong Yao's lips curve slightly.

Sure enough! She's a glasses enthusiast too!

The actual situation is:

From the moment Liu Hongli appeared at the window, Tong Yao kept turning her head to look at Lin Li. Seeing him so engrossed in his novel, completely unaware of the impending danger, his silly appearance made her unable to help but laugh.

Xu Feng, who was sitting next to her, noticed her unusual behavior and asked in a low voice, "What's wrong?"

Tong Yao immediately resumed her usual aloof expression: "It's nothing."

She watched as Lin Li moved his seat in front of her, and thinking she hadn't noticed, he hurriedly put on those ridiculous glasses. Knowing Lin Li as she did, she was sure he was imagining something strange again.

But she didn't intend to say anything. Tong Yao propped her right cheek up with her hand, blocking Lin Li's burning gaze perfectly, but through her fingers she could see his sullen expression because his view was blocked.

"Fine, I'll forgive him," Tong Yao thought. "He's just a simpleton anyway."

Thinking this, she secretly glanced at him a few more times.

The front door was near the stairwell, and a draft swept through. She saw Lin Li shiver involuntarily, rub her hands together instinctively, and then cup her cheeks to warm them.

So cute.

As Tong Yao thought about it, she turned her head slightly, so that she was facing her deskmate Xu Feng.

Xu Feng was taken aback when he saw the smile that hadn't completely faded from the girl's face. He then caught a glimpse of Lin Li, who was standing at the doorway, trying to straighten her back and wearing glasses, and immediately understood.

These two people were actually in love with each other.
