Chen Hong just laughed, and the boss said helplessly, "Alright, girl, I'll do whatever you say."
Chen Hong called Yu Hai: "Yu Hai, take your motorcycle to Rishen Motorcycle Shop next to the Maritime Bureau in the city, and get the vehicle registration certificate from the drawer of the TV cabinet at home. Ride slowly on the road, I'll wait for you here!"
Yu Hai was puzzled. Did Chen Hong want him to pick her up? What was she doing at the Maritime Safety Administration? And why did she need to bring her driver's license? She lived so close to home; who would carry a driver's license while riding a motorcycle? Was there some kind of event in the city today, with strict checks on motorcycles? He should also wear a helmet, lest he get it confiscated if he wasn't careful.
Yu Hai rode his motorcycle, fully equipped, into the city. As he rode, he was quite pleased with himself: Chen Hong was completely honest with him, which meant she didn't hate him. She even told him to be careful on the road. She was tough on the outside but soft on the inside, and she still cared about him. Thinking of this, Yu Hai felt dizzy and began to have other wonderful fantasies.
Chen Hong asked the owner to install a canopy on her tricycle, telling him that someone would deliver a motorcycle shortly, and that she needed to take care of some business at the Maritime Bureau before settling the bill. The owner waved her off, indicating she was too tired to talk.
Upon entering the Maritime Safety Administration, she found Yang Wei's office, introduced herself, and Yang Wei was already waiting for her. She knew she had to do her best to help her younger cousin's friend. After clarifying the situation, she learned it was because of a divorce and the need to process a change of household registration.
Holding the divorce agreement, household registration book, ID card, fishing boat purchase invoice, and other documents, they took Chen Hong to various departments up and down the building to get her signatures and stamps, and to change the files.
It took more than half an hour to finish all the procedures.
Back in the office, Yang Wei said to Chen Hong, "Let's exchange phone numbers so we can call each other if anything comes up. Do you drive your boat yourself or hire someone? If you drive it yourself, I suggest you enroll in a sailing school and get a captain's license. It should be enough to drive most small and medium-sized fishing boats. The policy has just been issued, so it's quite lenient right now. You can get your license in five or six days. Someone as young, experienced, and educated as you should pass the test. After this trial period, the licensing exam will definitely be stricter. Right now, they're mainly looking out for older fishermen, since they have experience and skills but are less educated."
"Okay, I'll register this afternoon and try to get my certificate as soon as possible."
Yang Wei laughed, "It's easier to talk to young people. My uncle and his family came this morning, and it took all morning to persuade them. They're very stubborn. They feel that they've been fishing all their lives without a license, and they shouldn't be told what to do by those of us who have never been to sea. They absolutely refuse to listen. If it weren't for Xiao Mei trying to persuade them, the old man definitely wouldn't have taken the exam."
Yang Wei and Chen Hong were talking: "After you get the license, just wait for the news. The national subsidy this time is very generous. Once the statistics are completed, the subsidies will be issued. Fishing boats with incomplete procedures or no licenses will be forced to be scrapped, and those who poach will be severely punished."
Seeing that no one else was in the office, Chen Hong took a cigarette out of her bag and handed it to Yang Wei. "Brother Yang, I won't say thank you. Let's keep in touch! Give me a call if you need anything."
Yang Wei declined, saying it was too small to accept a gift; they weren't strangers. "Brother Yang, you know I just got divorced, it's just me and my child at home, and nobody smokes. Since I bought it, it shouldn't go to waste. You and your colleague can share it; it's not worth much. We're all friends, so don't refuse!"
Yang Wei had no choice but to accept it. This girl's friend was generous and knew how to handle things better than most men.
After leaving the Maritime Bureau, Chen Hong went to the motorcycle shop. Yu Hai had been waiting for a while, and upon seeing Chen Hong, he quickly came over and asked in a low voice, "Did you sell the motorcycle?"
"I didn't sell it, I replaced it. See? This is my new ride." Chen Hong patted the electric tricycle with its canopy installed, beaming with pride.
"Give the keys and vehicle registration to the boss, I'll check them and settle the bill in a bit. Boss, how's the car? I didn't lie to you, my car is brand new, you've really hit the jackpot with this deal."
As Chen Hong spoke, she inspected the tricycle, got on, unlocked it, and drove it around the yard twice. Acceleration, braking, reversing, and the handbrake all worked very well and smoothly. The motor was very quiet and the speed was very stable, which was excellent.
Shaking the cargo bed panels, they were sturdy and well-made; passed inspection. The newly installed canopy was foldable, which was convenient. While Chen Hong inspected the vehicle, Yu Hai and the boss were dumbfounded. This driver was definitely an experienced one!
"Chen Hong, when did you learn to drive a tricycle? I didn't know that!" Yu Hai asked in surprise.
"I could drive a tricycle when I was fourteen. That's nothing. I can also drive a tractor. I'm a veteran driver with twenty years of experience. I still start my car with a crank! Don't worry, I've never had an accident. I've been driving safely for nineteen years."
Chen Hong got out of the car. "Boss, check out. Here's 2500. Count it correctly. Put everything I asked for in the car. Don't forget anything, or I'll have to ask you for it again."
Chen Hong took an envelope out of her bag, counted out 25 bills, and handed them to the shop owner. The owner took them, put them into the money counter, and swiped it through. "Exactly 2500. Everything is ready. I'll load it into your car right away. You're a straightforward girl. Come to the shop for car maintenance and repairs in the future, and I'll definitely take care of it properly for you."
Yu Hai watched as Chen Hong and the shop owner chatted enthusiastically, making it impossible for him to get a word in edgewise. They must have just met, but they seemed like old friends. His ex-wife was a true social butterfly! It was a waste of her talent that she wasn't in sales.
He forgot that before they got married, Chen Hong worked as a salesperson (long-distance bus ticket seller) and was the kind of person who worked alongside passengers on buses.
Back in the 1990s, passenger transport management was chaotic. Honest and simple-minded people couldn't be ticket sellers (see the movie "Get on the Bus" starring Huang Bo and Guan Hu). You really had to deal with all sorts of people. You couldn't cramm 42 people into a 16-seat minibus without some skill.
