Chapter 21 Taking My Son Fishing at Sea

Chen Hong loaded the fishing rod, tackle bag, live bait, aerator, large water tank, and electronic scale into the tricycle, put on her gear, called her son to get in, and drove to the dock.

They carried the things onto the boat, led their son onto the boat, tied a safety rope around his waist, and secured the other end to the back of the driver's seat.

She earnestly instructed Yu Yang: "Don't be alarmed by anything you see. Don't run or jump on the boat. When the boat is sailing, sit next to Mom. When Mom stops the boat to fish, you can sit in the driver's seat and play. Don't make Mom worry, understand?"

"I remember, Mom. I won't cause any trouble. I'll just sit and watch you fish." Hearing her son being so obedient, Chen Hong smiled, started the fishing boat, and took her son out to sea.

Chen Hong steered the boat slowly, not wanting to stray too far from the shore because her son was on board. The small boat glided along the shore, and Chen Hong observed the fish activity underwater as she steered.

She felt that her eyesight was much better than before. Before, she could only see large fish more than 50 meters underwater, but now she could see small shrimp and shells next to reefs more than 100 meters underwater.

I don't know if it's because of my rebirth or the effect of the water in the space, but whatever the reason, it's always a good thing that my eyesight has improved.

Chen Hong spotted a small school of fish about 500 meters from the shore. She stopped the boat and anchored, set up two fishing rods, and threw in some bait to create a feeding area. After a flurry of activity, she caught a fish with her hand rod.

The first fish I caught was a sea carp, very similar to the Yellow River carp, with a golden body and delicious flesh.

After removing the fishhook, Chen Hong picked up the fish and explained to her son, "Xiao Bao, look, this is a sea carp. It looks a lot like a Yellow River carp. It's delicious when braised."

Xiao Bao exclaimed happily, "Mommy, this fish is so beautiful! It's golden yellow! It's so fat and big, Mommy is amazing!"

Xiao Bao touched the sea koi, helped his mother put it into the live water tank, and sat next to it watching the fish swim around.

As Chen Hong baited her hook and cast her line, she said to her son, "Xiao Bao, stay away and watch carefully. Don't fall in. It's very uncomfortable to get your clothes wet. This sea carp isn't poisonous. I'm just letting you touch it. Many fish have poisonous fins. Children shouldn't touch them. It hurts a lot if you get pricked. Some of them can even kill you."

As they were talking, her son reminded Chen Hong, "Mom, we've caught a fish!" Chen Hong turned around and saw that the tip of the fishing rod had been bent, and the bell on the rod was making a tinkling sound.

She stuck her casting rod into the fishing hole, rushed over, pulled out the rod, and yanked it upwards to hook the fish. Before long, Chen Hong caught another black sea bream weighing more than 3 pounds.

Because she had baited the area, Chen Hong caught 17 fish using two fishing rods. Besides black sea bream and sea carp, she also caught sea bass and yellowfin tuna. An hour later, the fish dispersed, and Chen Hong started the boat to continue searching for more fish at sea.

Suddenly, Yu Yang shouted to Chen Hong, "Mom, hurry over there! There's a huge school of red fish there!" Following her son's finger, Chen Hong saw a group of red fish feeding in the sea about 50 meters from the boat at the 10 o'clock position.

Chen Hong turned the boat around, turned off the engine, and let it glide to the vicinity of the school of fish. "Son, you are truly my little lucky charm. You helped me find such a good school of fish. Do you recognize them? These are red snapper, also called red nine-spined bass. They are delicious and valuable. If we can catch them, we will have a great harvest today!"

While talking to her son, Chen Hong kept working. She cast the anchor, first scattering bait to keep the fish in the water, then quickly baiting the hook, casting the fishing rod into the fishing tube, and then changing the rod to a multi-hook rig, baiting it, and casting.

There were quite a few fish in the school, probably over a hundred. If they could catch even half of them, it would be a great catch. Chen Hong lowered the hook into the water not far from the school and slowly pulled the bait towards the fish. The shrimp on the hook saw the huge school of fish and instinctively tried to run away. Its violent struggle attracted the attention of several large fish, which suddenly lunged at the shrimp and bit it.

Seeing that three fish had taken the bait, Chen Hong yanked the fishing rod to hook the fish, ignoring the big fish's violent flailing of its gills after being hooked, and launched a hard attack with a vigorous shake.

I'm not worried at all that the fishing rod has bent into a bow shape. I just replaced the fishing rod and line today. According to the fishing tackle shop owner, this fishing rod can definitely handle catching a 100-pound fish.

The new fishing rod is a bit expensive, but once you get your hands on it, you'll find that its toughness, stiffness, and weight are all excellent. It's very smooth and easy to use.

After eight minutes, Chen Hong pulled the fish onto the deck, covered it with a towel, used a fish gripper to pry open its mouth and remove the hook. She then lifted the fish and said to Yang, "Xiao Bao, do you see this? This is a red snapper. It has nine large spines on its dorsal fin, which are poisonous. You must not get stung. Stay away from this kind of fish in the future."

Afraid of disturbing his mother's fishing, Yu Yang had been sitting nervously watching her work, not daring to move or speak. When he saw his mother catch three big fish at once, he slapped his thigh with joy, "Mom, you're amazing! These fish are so beautiful, so red and big, they must be worth a lot of money! I won't touch them. I'll help you fish when I grow up, and I'll talk to you."

Her son was as well-behaved and sensible as ever, and Chen Hong trusted him completely. Yu Yang chatted with Chen Hong on the boat, while Chen Hong deftly prepared the fish, baited them, and fished, working efficiently and without confusion. She caught more than 30 fish in an hour.

Seeing that the fish were about to disperse, Chen Hong threw in more than 2 jin of bloodworms, determined to keep the fish there so he could catch another batch and go home.

Chen Hong kept fishing, alternating between the two fishing rods until the fish shrunk considerably and the fish in the sea were full from Chen Hong's several rounds of bait before they scattered.

Chen Hong was also exhausted and drenched in sweat, her arms aching. She put down her fishing rod and sat in the driver's seat. She wiped her sweat with a towel, opened the water bottle and gave her son a few sips first, then took the water and drank it all in one gulp.
