The two chatted as they worked, making two trays of dumplings with three different fillings.
Two people working together is faster than one person working alone; the dumplings were all wrapped before 11 o'clock.
After making dumplings, Chen Hong, under Zhou Yi's persistent pleading, had no choice but to go out with him to pick up the children.
"You two are such troublemakers! You have to come together just to pick up a kid!"
Upon catching Yu Yang, Chen Hong watched as Yu Yang rushed to Zhou Yi, who tossed him high into the air repeatedly, making him laugh uncontrollably. Chen Hong muttered under her breath.
"Alright, stop fooling around, you're all so childish! If you keep laughing, your stomachs will hurt, and you won't get to eat dumplings for lunch!"
Under the kind gazes of the parents and the envious looks of the children, Chen Hong quickly grabbed Zhou Yi, snatched her son away, and hurriedly led him into the car.
"Dad, I want to be lifted up high too! You haven't lifted me up in a long time!" Among Yu Yang's classmates was a chubby boy.
"You're kidding me! You've gotten so fat now, your dad's small body, weighing only 100 or 200 pounds, can't lift you."
His father, however, was tall and thin, creating a stark contrast in physique between father and son.
"Dad, you're too weak! Look how strong other dads are!"
"No matter how strong you are, you're still someone else's dad. There's no use being envious! If you really can't handle it, then lose weight. If you lose weight to thirty pounds, I can lift you up."
"No way! My grandma said I'm the cutest when I'm chubby, it's a blessing!"
"I'd rather you exercise than make me lose weight. You're so weak, my mom won't like you."
"You little brat, you want a beating? Your mom doesn't like me. Where did you come from?"
If you don't want to lose weight, then you'll have to find a new dad. But I wonder if anyone will want to raise you, their adopted son?
"I'm God's precious gift to my mom, she told me that a long time ago! You really want me to change dads? Well, you better keep your word, I'll make my mom divorce you as soon as we get home!"
"You brat, you've really gone too far! You even want your mother to divorce me! I've wasted my time raising you, you ungrateful little devil!"
"I'm not an ingrate, you're the one who's ingrate!"
"If you keep talking nonsense, I'll really hit you?"
"I'm not making this up! Grandpa and Grandma both say you're an ingrate. You're not only an ingrate, you're also like a magpie with a long tail, forgetting your mother after getting married!"
"Slap slap slap!" "Waaaaaah... You hit me! When we get home I'm going to tell Grandma, Grandpa, and Mom I don't like you anymore..."
The sounds of playful laughter in the distance suddenly turned into crying. The car started, and the three people inside looked at each other and burst into laughter.
"That's hilarious, Mom, Dad, that's a classmate of ours."
He's funny when he talks; he's a bit ditzy. The teacher says he's a bit of a simpleton!
Chen Hong laughed heartily: "This child is quite interesting, but which of you old folks said that you shouldn't follow suit and give children nicknames? That's not good."
Besides, listen to your classmate's conversation with his dad; the kid speaks quite logically.
His way of speaking is influenced by the adults in his family. The kid isn't stupid or crazy; how can you call him a simpleton?
Zhou Yi laughed and said to Yang, "Your mother is right, 'idiot' is not a good thing."
Your classmate has no problem with his reaction speed; at most, he just has low emotional intelligence, which is probably due to his young age.
He still can't quite distinguish between good and bad, and most of what he hears from adults are jokes, which he takes seriously.
There are quite a few adults with low emotional intelligence; they make up at least 10% of all people.
So this isn't a serious problem; he'll gradually overcome and improve it as he gets older.
Yu Yang stopped laughing, staring into his big, dark eyes as he fell into thought.
It wasn't until after he got home, had lunch, and was about to take a nap that he solemnly sat on the sofa and pulled Zhou Yi aside to discuss things.
"Dad Zhou, have you ever encountered people with low emotional intelligence? How did you get along with them?"
Upon hearing this topic, Zhou Yi laughed and said, "Yu Yang, you've come to the right person."
Let me tell you, I've probably met the most people with low emotional intelligence. You know there's a term in society these days called "straight men," right?
Yu Yang shook his head and looked to his mother for help.
While peeling an apple, Chen Hong explained to her son, "A straight man, as the name suggests, is a man who speaks and acts very directly."
In other words, this kind of man says whatever he thinks, he's too direct, he doesn't know how to be tactful, and he doesn't know how to consider other people's feelings.
Some things, even if they are true, are inappropriate to say if they are said in the wrong place or at the wrong time.
A man who easily embarrasses others, offends people, or makes them dislike him is a "straight man."
However, such people are not intellectually challenged. In our rural parlance, they're just too blunt and inflexible, lacking tact, and prone to offending others.
Zhou Yi laughed heartily: "Did you hear that? There are plenty of people like that everywhere."
In our unit, which is mostly men, people are very direct in their speech and actions. They only use euphemisms when talking to strangers.
Comrades are used to being straightforward with each other, and they can't change it when they enter society. That's what's called a "straight man".
Therefore, most of the men in the military are straight men, and many of them need a long time to adapt and stop being straight men after being demobilized and discharged from the military.
But I think it's good that straight men are straightforward; everyone's straightforward, so you get used to it. On the contrary, when I'm on vacation, they have to beat around the bush when they speak, and that feels a bit strange.
Chen Hong almost laughed when she heard Zhou Yi's remarks. These people!
He probably racks his brains every time he comes back from vacation, trying to please his wife and daughter, which wastes a lot of his brain cells.
