Having caught a turtle, things became much easier. After observation and analysis, Chen Hong devised a method for finding turtles.
The Yellow River turtles have different habits from other turtle species; even in winter, they do not burrow into dry areas on the riverbank to hibernate.
Except for the period from the end of February to May in the lunar calendar when they crawl onto the fine sand on the shore to lay their eggs, they spend most of their time living and inhabiting the shallow cement bottom of the slow-flowing main stream of the Yellow River.
After doing my research for a while, I caught another one today, and finally got to put it into practice.
Chen Hong now has full confidence in finding the turtle. She looks around at the shallow water from time to time. The Yellow River turtle has to stretch its head to catch its breath every half hour.
This characteristic is the key to finding turtles in the vast Yellow River.
In addition, turtles need to emerge from the mud every half hour to breathe, and the mud and sand where they live are definitely softer than the surrounding area, which is also a little trick to find turtles.
She intently observed the murky water around her, searching for tiny bubbles rising from the bottom amidst the rippling waves.
This is a meticulous task that requires keen eyesight and, more importantly, a great deal of patience.
Chen Hong was multitasking, wading barefoot through the muddy water, feeling the softness and hardness of the silt with her delicate soles.
They kept patrolling the water's surface, searching for any clues before the turtles showed themselves.
Heaven rewards those who persevere!
The Yellow River will not fail those who are sincere!
Chen Hong is sincere!
I really want to catch a few turtles and stew them for nourishment!
With Chen Hong's extraordinary eyesight, she quickly spotted two locations that appeared to contain turtles.
I stared intently at it, silently memorizing its exact location. Suddenly, a long glans emerged from the water.
"Hahaha! It really is a turtle! Looks like this method is effective!"
Chen Hong was immediately excited; good luck had come her way!
Luck favors the prepared mind—that's so true! Hahaha!
Just as she was feeling pleased, thirty meters away from where the first turtle had surfaced, another turtle poked its head out of the water.
Chen Hong covered her mouth, afraid that her loud laughter would frighten the turtle. If it escaped, it would be difficult to find it again.
The turtle poked its head out at the surface for only a few seconds to breathe before retreating back to the bottom.
Chen Hong mentally calculated the approximate distance between the two turtles and resolutely waded through the murky river towards the turtle closest to her.
Stepping through the silt at the bottom of the river, Chen Hong shuffled to the spot and bent down to feel for the soft turtle nest.
Within a two-meter radius of the area she had identified, she only groped around for a little over a minute before discovering the mud hole where the turtle was hiding.
She was overjoyed and kept digging in the soft mud with both hands. But after digging down only a dozen centimeters, she touched a hard turtle shell.
The first time I caught a turtle, I was so excited that I foolishly used a clumsy method to painstakingly dig it out.
The moment she was dug out, she regretted it; she was no ordinary person.
She is the chosen one who possesses a spatial ability!
She forgot to use the space to dig the turtle out!
If you have the space, why go through all this trouble? If you're sure there are turtles at the bottom of the mud, just use your space to collect them—it's that simple!
This time, Chen Hong was clever. She touched the turtle shell, gripped the edge, and with a sudden thought, a small whirlpool formed on the surface of the water in front of her.
The turtle, covered in yellow mud, was taken into Chen Hong's spatial storage.
With another thought, the turtle appeared in Chen Hong's hand. The Yellow River turtle stretched its long neck and looked around, somewhat bewildered.
What happened? It was perfectly fine in its nest, and in the blink of an eye, it moved to a different place again.
Chen Hong laughed so hard! This turtle wasn't small either, it must weigh around four pounds.
She used one hand to pick at the hollow of the turtle's hind leg and vigorously rinsed the mud off its body in the river water.
After washing it clean, it's another golden three-yellow turtle, and it's even a male turtle.
"Haha, Yu Yang, Mom caught another turtle. This one's not small either, look how yellow it is!"
Chen Hong waved the turtle at her son on the shore, looking incredibly smug.
Yu Yang sat on the shore, wrapped in his mother's coat, basking in the warm sunshine, feeling very comfortable.
Hearing that his mother had caught another turtle, he was very happy. "Mom, bring it back so I can see it. Which of the two turtles is bigger?"
Chen Hong stood in the river and shouted, "Sit still and wrap yourself up. There should be another one over there. Mom will catch it and take it back together."
Don't rush, just wait a little while, we're sure to have a great harvest today! Son, returning home laden with fruit is not a dream!
She gesticulated wildly as she stumbled toward her second destination, exclaiming, "This mud is so deep, it's really hard to walk through!"
She waded through a hundred meters of mud, creating a turbid wave that stretched for a hundred and fifty meters. The river water beneath her feet became even muddier, with mud and sand squeezing up from between her toes and slapping against her delicate insteps.
Chen Hong walked to the designated spot, first putting the turtle she was holding into the net bag, and then casually hanging the net bag around her waist.
She started bending down to feel the turtle pit, but after only two or three minutes, she touched a soft muddy spot that looked like a turtle pit.
Chen Hong dug hard into the soft mud with both hands, and then laughed as she touched something hard.
It was definitely a turtle shell, no doubt. He pretended to scoop up a couple of handfuls of mud, touched the turtle shell with both hands, and then, on a whim, he got another big turtle.
Chen Hong gripped the turtle tightly, vigorously rinsed off the mud in the murky river water, and then lifted it up to take a look.
Sigh! Chen Hong sighed inwardly. This turtle was not small, and it was a female.
However, its shell is black and its abdomen is bluish-white, so it can no longer be considered a purebred three-yellow turtle.
