Chapter 42 Recognizing Godparents
Boys seem to have a natural affinity for cars. Shen Zhuoyi curiously touched the car and asked all sorts of questions.
Lu Mingzheng patiently answered all his questions, and the two chatted about everything from car performance to sales techniques, having a great time.
After getting off the car, Shen Zhuoyi was completely impressed by Lu Mingzheng's extensive knowledge. If it weren't for the difference in their generations, he would have called Lu Mingzheng "elder brother".
It was Lu Mingzheng who ultimately made the final decision, making Shen Zhuoyi call him Uncle Lu.
Shen Zhuoyi readily agreed, while Jiang Ruzhen shook her head in disapproval.
Xie Hui couldn't help but laugh as he watched the two men's backs as they walked away like close brothers.
His brother is so easy to deal with!
When the group arrived at the restaurant, Jiang Ruzhen, who needed his help, politely asked Lu Mingzheng to order the food.
Lu Mingzheng didn't stand on ceremony and ordered from top to bottom of the menu, ordering almost all the dishes the restaurant had for the day.
Jiang Ruzhen's lips twitched, and she ground her back teeth while pretending to be nonchalant.
"Is this enough? If not, we can order a few more."
"That's about right. We can order more if we're still hungry," Lu Mingzheng replied.
Is this man an idiot? He still wants to order more from a table full of food. Doesn't he just stuff himself to death?
Jiang Ruzhen angrily picked up her chopsticks and stuffed them into her mouth, while also feeding her second son. His bowl was overflowing, and he kept yelling.
"Mom, are you feeding the pigs?"
"Are you full? Then I'll put some on Xie Hui's plate."
Jiang Ruzhen immediately shifted her focus, figuring that if these dishes weren't going to end up in her own mouth, they'd end up in her second son's stomach.
Even if they're both full, they should still give the money to the kid they just met, and absolutely not let that bastard Lu Mingzheng get it.
Xie Hui endured Jiang Ruzhen's enthusiasm, his eyes occasionally glancing at Lu Mingzheng's dark face, grinning foolishly.
"Thank you, godmother!"
“Uh… Xie Hui, we can’t just casually adopt godparents; there have to be some rules.” Jiang Ruzhen reminded him as tactfully as possible, afraid of hurting the young man’s pride.
"Mom, don't worry about it. Xiaohui is on my side. We're good brothers now. I promised to let him call you godmother." Shen Zhuoyi shoveled his food into his mouth, not forgetting to explain for his brother.
Is this something he can just agree to?
Shouldn't we ask for his opinion? Jiang Ruzhen raised her eyes and glanced at Shen Zhuoyi, a chilling aura piercing his face.
Shen Zhuoyi lowered his head and shrank his neck. Oh no, it seems he really angered his mother.
He quickly lowered his head and started eating. Xie Hui saw that his brother was frightened by the glare he received, so he quickly tried to explain.
“Godmother, I actually arrived quite early. I heard your insights on the future planning of the garment city and I admire you very much.”
My father passed away early; he was a soldier who died for his country. He always taught me to respect everyone who is capable and talented. That's why I wanted to recognize you as my godmother—it seems like we'd be closer that way, is that alright?
She's already brought up her dad; what can she say?
Jiang Ruzhen forced a smile and chuckled foolishly. This kid was the orphan of a martyr, so whatever he said was right.
When the group finished eating, Jiang Ruzhen reluctantly paid the bill, which cost her twelve yuan.
Lu Mingzheng, that scoundrel.
Is it easy for her to earn money?
"Godmother, I know a market nearby where things are really cheap. I'll buy you some local specialties to take back," Xie Hui said at someone's instruction.
"No need, don't be so polite, child," Jiang Ruzhen quickly waved her hand.
It's just a verbal agreement to become godparents; she didn't actually say she agreed.
Why is this child so stubborn?
Xie Hui is such a sensible kid; it's a shame he's become that scoundrel's godson.
"If my mom knew I'd accepted a godparent but hadn't done anything about it, she'd kill me. Let's go, godmother!"
Xie Hui stepped forward and helped Jiang Ruzhen into the car, while Shen Zhuoyi stood behind her, suppressing a laugh, ignoring the fact that his mother had been kidnapped.
The group soon arrived at the farmers' market, where Xie Hui began his large-scale shopping spree.
Three Yangcheng roast chickens, five catties of crispy sausages, ten catties of snowflake beef, twenty catties of Pingkang millet, and twenty catties of black soil rice.
Also, ten boxes of various pastries, ten catties each of nougat and fruit candy, and ten catties of white sugar and ten catties of brown sugar.
Xie Hui bought and loaded the truck along the way, and when it became too heavy to load, he asked the sellers to ship the goods directly.
Jiang Ruzhen's teeth were sore from sucking so hard. This silly girl is too honest. Does she want to move the whole market to her place?
She kept stopping me, saying no, "Child, you're still in school, you don't need to send such an expensive gift. I appreciate your kindness, but your mother works hard to earn money, so we can't buy any more."
Xie Hui waved his hand dismissively, "It's okay, godmother! Don't worry, I don't spend my mom's money, I only spend my godfather's."
ah?
Is it Lu Mingzheng's money that's being spent? Okay, go ahead and buy it.
Jiang Ruzhen's attempts to stop him became clearly perfunctory. Xie Hui bought another twenty catties of lamb chops and mutton, as well as pork legs, pork belly, and so on.
With the car fully loaded, Jiang Ruzhen was so happy she couldn't stop smiling.
I never expected that becoming godparents would bring me money back; this is a super profitable deal!
After getting back in the car, Jiang Ruzhen realized quite a distance away that this wasn't the way to Lu Mingzheng's clothing overstock warehouse.
"Where are we heading? I haven't even checked the goods yet!"
"Don't worry, your goods have already been loaded onto a truck and sent off." Lu Mingzheng said slowly and deliberately, controlling the steering wheel with one hand.
"No, I haven't even inspected the goods yet. How do you know if I want them, or what kind I want? What if you give me junk and I can't sell it?"
"Then you'll just have to accept your bad luck."
"you......"
Jiang Ruzhen's good mood from just getting a good deal vanished instantly.
Upon arriving at the train station, the men packed up all the goods for shipment, leaving some ready-to-eat cooked food in a large bag for Shen Zhuoyi to carry.
Jiang Ruzhen waved goodbye to Xie Hui and entered the station without even glancing at Lu Mingzheng.
Xie Hui suppressed the urge to smile and looked at Lu Mingzheng, who was slightly disappointed, beside him. "Godfather, since you like Aunt Jiang, why do you always disagree with her?"
"What do you know, you silly boy? Your Aunt Jiang is too proud to care about any man."
If I didn't constantly annoy her and make a lasting impression, she would have forgotten about me in no time.
Well......
Xie Hui was speechless for a moment. Wasn't it his godfather's behavior that made him seem like a childish fool?
He used to have a good friend in school who liked the girl sitting in front of him. He would always be cheeky and taunt her, pulling her hair out and putting caterpillars in her desk.
He would deliberately knock over other people's books from time to time, or he would deliberately act silly in front of others, making funny faces to scare them, all in the hope of getting the attention of the girl he liked.
After graduation, he mustered up the courage to confess his feelings to her, but the girl looked at him as if she had seen a ghost.
Not only did he refuse on the spot, but he was also frightened and ran away without a trace, leaving his good brother unable to find him again.
Why bother?
Filled with resentment, Jiang Ruzhen only realized what was happening after boarding the train: "Second brother, when did we buy our train tickets? And are they for two lower berths?"
Shen Zhuoyi sat casually at the small table, took out the roast chicken he had been craving for a long time and started gnawing on it, muttering incoherently.
"It was given to you by your godson as a token of filial piety."
"Oh," Jiang Ruzhen nodded. This godson is really a good person. She used to be so afraid of people after being bitten by a snake once.
She didn't want to take in any more adopted daughters or godsons, but Xie Hui was so filial to her that she admitted she was a little tempted.
However, she always felt as if she had forgotten something important.
I thought for a long time but still couldn't remember, so I simply lay down on the bed and closed my eyes to rest.
Suddenly, Jiang Ruzhen, who was about to fall asleep, slapped her thigh and sat up with a start.
"Second brother! I think I didn't pay the supplier when I bought the goods!"
