Chapter 2: A Changed Person
"Mom! I've been in poor health since I was little and can't do heavy work. I also want to go to university, and I also want to have an office job."

Shen Shuxin asked cautiously.
Qin Lanlan has always been treated like royalty in their family, enjoying the best treatment at home and stealing all of her mother's attention and love.
She always had the best of everything in the family, from delicious food and fun activities to clothes and household items.
But she never knew what satisfaction was, and often bossed her two older brothers around in private.
They frequently beat and scolded her and her brother, and it was common for them to be punished or have their belongings taken away.
Out of guilt, the siblings endured all of this.
"That heartless bastard wants to steal your spot and go to university in your place. I can't let her get away with this," Jiang Ruzhen said angrily, kicking Qin Lanlan several times.

Shen Shuxin opened her mouth and stared blankly for a long time before finally coming to her senses.
"Mom, I can..."
"No, don't say anything. I will absolutely not let her take your place in college."
Xin Xin, have you forgotten all the hard work you put in to get into university? It was almost like you were hanging your head from the rafters and pricking your thigh with an awl.

Shen Shuxin lowered her head. She felt bad about giving up her spot, but she had seen all her mother's sacrifices for the family over the years and her humble attitude towards the Qin family.
She didn't want to put her mother in a difficult position, so she was willing to compromise.
