Chapter 222 A Complete Break

Chapter 222 A Complete Break

Jiang Ruzhen gritted her teeth, feeling resentful. How much suffering had Qin Lanlan endured?

She did so many evil things in her past life, how can we let her die so easily?

Even if all the cruelest punishments of ancient times were inflicted on her, she would still not be satisfied.

The next day, Jiang Ruzhen got up early to dress herself.

Wearing the most expensive camel-colored cashmere coat, and on her feet a pair of white lambskin boots.

Wearing a cream-colored scarf around her neck, with her hair up, she took a taxi alone and arrived at Old Hu's house with a small bag in her hand.

Old Hu had just gotten up, wearing a tattered cotton-padded coat, his hair a mess, and yawning as he came out to empty the chamber pot.

"Knock knock knock"

Hearing the knock, he impatiently called out, "Who is it?"

"Hello, I am Jiang Ruzhen, here to see Qin Lanlan."

Upon hearing Jiang Ruzhen's name, Old Hu trembled. He carefully examined the newcomer through the crack in the courtyard gate.

He asked warily, "Are you Boss Jiang? Qin Lanlan's former foster mother?"

“Yes,” Jiang Ruzhen replied.

"What are you doing here? I'm warning you, Qin Lanlan is my wife, and I won't let you take her away." Old Hu didn't want to open the door; he was just a coward who bullied the weak and feared the strong.

He could mistreat Qin Lanlan, the wife he bought, however he wanted, but he never dared to provoke outsiders.

Moreover, the man in front of him was a well-known big boss in Liancheng, whose family was in the clothing business and was very wealthy. He dared not offend him.

"Who said I was going to take her away? I just came to see how she's doing." Jiang Ruzhen smiled as she looked at the eyes peeking out from the crack in the door.

Old Hu was still in disbelief and hesitated to open the door.

"The reason you were able to catch Qin Lanlan at the hotel last time was because I sent someone to tip you off," Jiang Ruzhen reminded her quietly.

"What? It's you?" Old Hu's eyes widened in astonishment. "Why?"

"Why is there a reason? Of course, it's because Qin Lanlan is my enemy!" Jiang Ruzhen leaned closer and said, "Weren't you involved in my whole entanglement with the Qin family?"

Don't you know how the Qin family harmed my husband? How did I, this shameless adopted daughter, harm my daughter?

Of course I hope Qin Lanlan suffers the same fate, that she'll have to live under your thumb; I'd be more than happy to see her like that.

Looking at the smiling Jiang Ruzhen and hearing the vicious words coming out of her mouth, Old Hu felt a chill run down his spine.

He pondered for a while before finally opening the door, only to see Jiang Ruzhen's snow-white leather boots stepping into the muddy water of his house.

A wave of inferiority and cowardice washed over him. He lowered his head, his eyes darting around, not daring to look at Jiang Ruzhen at all.

His courtyard was so dilapidated and gloomy that it was as if an angel had descended into a garbage dump for a celestial being like Jiang Ruzhen to come to his courtyard.

Old Hu awkwardly turned his head to the side and pointed to the low, dilapidated house in front of him.

"If you came here to see Qin Lanlan's miserable life, you're probably going to be disappointed. Although I always beat her, she used to be able to eat and drink well and her body could withstand the beatings."

Ever since her miscarriage, she's been listless and dazed, only able to eat a little bit if I feed her.

Her health has been deteriorating lately, and she hasn't eaten or drunk anything for the past few days. I doubt she'll make it through more than a few days.

"Damn it, I'm so unlucky to have married such a promiscuous slut who won't have my kids but instead raises another man's child..."

Old Hu grumbled and vented his dissatisfaction when he suddenly heard Jiang Ruzhen ask, "She miscarried? Did you do it?"

Old Hu immediately looked at Jiang Ruzhen nervously, "It wasn't me, she accidentally tripped and fell."

"Don't be nervous. I just think it's too easy for her to die like this." Jiang Ruzhen didn't care about Old Hu's wary expression. Her snow-white boots shone through the mud and water as she walked step by step toward the door.

Old Hu stood at the gate of the courtyard and did not follow. He still couldn't understand why Jiang Ruzhen had come here.

Jiang Ruzhen walked into the room; it was pitch black inside.

Even during the day, the light in this low thatched house is very dim.

She didn't go any further inside. After adjusting to the light, she looked around.

The room had mud walls, a dilapidated kang (heated brick bed), and the only furniture was a rickety table and a chair that looked like it was about to fall apart.

The ground was uneven and full of potholes, some of which contained mud and water, making it impossible to find a place to step.

There was a bulge on the kang (a heated brick bed), and it seemed that someone was lying inside, but they were narrow and thin, like a dough stick, all bony and emaciated.

On the wall next to her hung a meter-long whip, its dark color a mixture of dried blood and worn-out patina.

"Qin Lanlan! I'm here!"

Jiang Ruzhen spoke to remind the person on the kang (a heated brick bed). Qin Lanlan slowly woke up upon hearing Jiang Ruzhen's voice. When she saw the person in front of her, tears streamed down her face, and she said weakly.

"Mom, you...came to see me? You finally came to see me...I...am about to die. Mom, I...I regret it so much, I regret listening to Li Fen and Qin Liang."

Why did I turn such a good life into this mess? I... I really regret it... Can you forgive me?

Qin Lanlan cried bitterly, trying to evoke Jiang Ruzhen's past tenderness.

Unfortunately, Jiang Ruzhen, who had experienced the vicissitudes of life, felt no emotion in the face of Qin Lanlan's repentance.

"Are you really regretting it? Perhaps you want to escape this inhuman life?"

Do you feel that your chances of getting close to Li Yu are slim, so you come back to beg for my forgiveness, hoping that I will take you back to continue enjoying the life of a rich lady?

Qin Lanlan, you don't still naively believe I still have feelings for you, do you?

Qin Lanlan shook her head violently. She forced herself to roll over on the kang (a heated brick bed) and crawled toward Jiang Ruzhen, using her elbows for support.

"Mom, I...I know I was wrong, I...I really know I was wrong. I...I shouldn't have stolen my sister's college acceptance letter, and I shouldn't have conspired with Li Fen and Qin Liang to frame my sister."

I was so wrong, so terribly wrong. Please forgive me, I really regret it. Please, Mom, take me back home.

Just treat me like a dog. I'll do all the housework, and all I need is some leftovers to eat every day. Please, save me!

"Mom, that old man is a monster. I really can't take it anymore. He's torturing me to death..."

At first, Qin Lanlan struggled to speak, but as her hatred rose, she spoke faster and more forcefully.

When she first asked her neighbor to help her send a letter, she was still uneasy, wondering if Jiang Ruzhen would come to see her this time.

She knew that Jiang Ruzhen hated her and loathed her, but since she came to see her, did it mean that Jiang Ruzhen still had a place for her in her heart?

After all, the mother and daughter had been together for twelve years, and she was so kind, treating her better than her own children from childhood to adulthood.

How could she just stand by and watch her die without coming to save her?

In fact, she made the right bet.

She knew that Jiang Ruzhen still had feelings for her, and that she had come to rescue her from this predicament. She had to make a good impression.

She must repent sincerely so that Jiang Ruzhen will pity her and take her away.

Once she recovers and finds Li Yu, she'll go back and settle accounts with Jiang Ruzhen.

Unfortunately, she was too optimistic; Jiang Ruzhen didn't believe a word of her sweet talk.
