Chapter 249 Entangled

Chapter 249 Entangled

The three of them turned their heads at the same time and saw Xie Hui standing beside them, looking travel-worn and smiling ingratiatingly at them.

"Oh my, isn't this my brother-in-law? Where have you been all this time? You look so haggard!"

Shen Zhuohang followed the main force to various training exercises and was unaware of what had happened at home.

He even greeted Xie Hui warmly.

Shen Shuxin frowned and said, "Little brother, don't call me that. Xie Hui has now climbed up to a professor in the aerospace city. He's a pillar of the country now."

They're not on the same level as us nobody. Don't try to climb the social ladder; you might jeopardize their bright future.

ah?

What are you talking about?!

Shen Zhuohang was a little confused when he heard this. Even if he was stupid, he could tell that there was sarcasm in his third sister's tone.

He awkwardly lowered his hand and looked at Jiang Ruzhen.

Use your eyes to ask what's going on.

Jiang Ruzhen shrugged, indicating that she was powerless to help. She simply patted Xie Hui on the shoulder and said...

"You just came back from the space center, right? It must be very tiring there. We won't keep you from resting any longer. Goodbye!"

Although Jiang Ruzhen had no problem with Xie Hui himself, she was not entirely satisfied with him always hurting her daughter's feelings at crucial moments.

However, since the kid's intentions were good, they didn't do anything to him.

However, it's their two children's life to live, and she doesn't want to interfere in their affairs.

So she called to the two children, "Come on, fourth child, you finally have a day off, today Mom will take you out to eat."

"Yay, Mom, I'm craving meat! Order me lots of meat dishes. The food at school is okay, but it's nowhere near as good as home. I really want to eat your meat dishes..."

The fourth brother only reveals the clear-headed naiveté he used to have at home when it comes to food.

Jiang Ruzhen touched Shen Zhuohang's cheeks with heartache; indeed, the little chubby cheeks he used to have were gone.

Having undergone rigorous training at the military academy, the fourth brother has now grown into a tall and handsome young poplar.

Her cheek lines were sharply defined, and her jawline became increasingly clear, looking incredibly sharp.

The fourth brother is becoming more and more like a soldier, a far cry from the silly, goofy fourth brother of his previous life who only knew how to laugh all day.

"Okay, I'll order you ten plates of meat dishes today. You can't leave until you finish them all."

"That's great... I knew Mom loved me the most..."

The family of three headed towards the restaurant. Xie Hui stood there in a daze for a long time before he finally picked up his leg and chased after them.

He only had half a day off, but he rushed back without hesitation, just wanting to see Shen Shuxin, even though she hadn't forgiven him yet.

He also wanted to see if she was doing well.

We arrived at the restaurant, but we weren't even there yet; there were only a few guests scattered around inside.

Jiang Ruzhen stepped forward, pointed to the names of the dishes on the menu, and said with a smile.

"Excuse me, chef, one serving of each of these dishes, and one extra serving of all the meat dishes."

The chef inside was stunned for a long time after hearing this. Only after Jiang Ruzhen paid and left did he come to his senses and start cooking.

While the three of them waited, Jiang Ruzhen and Shen Shuxin each asked Shen Zhuohang about his recent whereabouts.

Shen Zhuohang only said a few words: "I'm fine, the school is fine, and the teachers are very capable."

When asked any further questions, the answer is always the same: "Keep it a secret."

Shen Shuxin was so angry she wanted to punch him, and Jiang Ruzhen rolled her eyes repeatedly.

People say that once a child is handed over to the state, they are no longer one's own, and she is now beginning to truly understand this sentiment.

In no time, one dish after another was brought up by the waiter.

Herb-flavored beef, creamy shrimp balls, double vegetables in broth, braised pork knuckle, steamed shad, braised pork ribs, and seven or eight other dishes were served.

Shen Zhuohang ate heartily, praising the food repeatedly as he ate, "Delicious, delicious."

The waiter was pleased to receive praise from the soldier, and he served the food much faster.

Shen Zhuohang's eyes lit up as he looked at the abundance of meat and vegetables laid out before him. He devoured the food with the speed he used during training, leaving nothing behind in a flash.

Even as he choked and his eyes rolled back, he still kept putting the meat into his mouth, which made Jiang Ruzhen so angry that she slapped his back and poured several mouthfuls of spiritual spring water into him, which made him a little better.

"Eat slowly, who's going to take it from you?"

"I'm sorry, Mom, you must be embarrassed. We eat like this at school. If you don't grab it, a dish will be gone in seconds."

Jiang Ruzhen felt a pang of sadness upon hearing this. "Does your school allow food delivery? Can Mom bring you meat and vegetables when she has time?"

“No, I can’t be treated differently,” Shen Zhuohang refused.

Jiang Ruzhen and Shen Shuxin felt even more sorry for Shen Zhuohang, and the two took turns serving him food, reminding him to eat slowly.

Just as the three were eating, Xie Hui came in from outside and sat down far away by the door.

He only ordered a bowl of noodles, sat down and ate slowly, his eyes constantly glancing at Jiang Ruzhen's table.

Shen Shuxin saw him as soon as he entered the door. She curled her lips in disdain and did not remind Jiang Ruzhen and her younger brother.

Xie Hui knew that Shen Shuxin didn't like him anymore. He sat in the chair, picking at the white noodles in his bowl, but he couldn't taste any flavor at all. He looked particularly dejected.

Jiang Ruzhen and her two companions ate their fill, while the waiters were still serving more dishes.

Shen Zhuohang had eaten most of the other dishes, and he really couldn't eat any of the last two meat dishes, creamy shrimp balls and braised pork ribs.

"Mom, I was just exaggerating and said I'd order two portions, and you actually believed me? What am I going to do? I really can't eat anymore."

Jiang Ruzhen raised her hand to call the waiter to pack the food, but out of the corner of her eye, she saw Xie Hui staring at her expectantly from the doorway.

Jiang Ruzhen's heart skipped a beat, and she got up and carried the two plates over.

"You're still hungry, aren't you? These two dishes are untouched, you can eat them."

Xie Hui immediately stood up and declined, "Godmother, this won't do, these two dishes are too expensive, I can't eat them."

Jiang Ruzhen's face tightened, and she put down the dishes, saying, "No matter what happens between you and Xinxin in the future, you are still my godson. As long as you call me godmother, I will take care of you in your daily life."

Otherwise, if your dad knew you couldn't even afford meat and vegetables, he'd be heartbroken. Listen to me, eat up.

Jiang Ruzhen put down the dishes and turned to leave, and Xie Hui's tears immediately fell down.

He lowered his head, not daring to look at Shen Shuxin anymore, tears mixed with saliva, and swallowed the food bite by bite.

After Jiang Ruzhen returned to her seat, the fourth brother, who had eaten and drunk his fill, finally had time to inquire about things at home.

"Mom, what's wrong with Xie Hui? Did he have a fight with Third Sister?"

Just as Jiang Ruzhen was about to speak, Shen Shuxin spoke up.

"It's not an argument, it's a breakup. From now on, Xie Hui and I have nothing to do with each other. You're not allowed to call him brother-in-law anymore, so as not to delay your sister from finding a partner in the future."

She didn't lower her voice intentionally, and Xie Hui, who was sitting by the door, heard it clearly. He stiffened and lowered his head even further.

Shen Shuxin had originally intended to provoke Xie Hui, but seeing his miserable appearance only fueled her anger.

I gulped down the tea on the table, but my throat still felt like it was on fire.

What exactly does Xie Hui want to do?

He wants to win her back but doesn't say anything nice; he wants to distance himself from her but keeps following her around.

It's so annoying.

A cowardly, indecisive man is no good.

Isn't this just a waste of my time?
