Chapter 2 The Groom is Someone Else

Mu Huaixi remembered it clearly. Zhang Hongwei was wearing a white shirt, navy pants, black leather shoes, and a flashy red rose tied to his eye patch. He'd been the one beating someone with his leather shoes that night, while he was saying he was at the front of the wedding procession, and when he opened the door, it was empty, and he'd embarrassed himself in front of his brothers.

But the person standing outside the door was a man in military uniform, looking at him in surprise. He looked much more righteous than Zhang Hongwei, with sword-like eyebrows and star-like eyes, and thick lips that showed his affection.

"Oh! Nephew Ying, be careful!"

The man called "Nephew Ying" by his uncle reacted very quickly. He dodged her attack by turning sideways lightly, and held her waist to relieve her forward force, allowing her to land safely beside him.

"Xiao Xi!"

Uncle San rushed over with a limp, and with red eyes, he pulled her behind him. He turned around and faced his uncle and aunt, and asked angrily, "Brother! What are you going to do?"

"Third child, why are you making a fuss on such a happy day!" The eldest aunt cursed, her hands on her hips, and waved at her, "Huaixi, come here quickly. Hongwei is almost here on his bike. Don't delay your auspicious time."

"Bah! What auspicious time!" Mu Lao San spat fiercely. He had disliked his eldest sister-in-law for a long time. "Brother, Dad arranged a marriage for Xiao Xi before he passed away, and you let your eldest sister-in-law do whatever she wants? You know what people say outside, that our Mu family is selling out our niece!"

"What are you talking about?" Zhang Shaozi cried out like a dying goose. "The Zhang family is marrying her off in a formal ceremony. It's a blessing for a country girl like her to marry a town worker!"

"This blessing is reserved for you!" Mu Lao San roared even louder, pointing at Mu Zhao who was hiding in the corner, "You marry Mu Zhao to the Zhang family. You don't need to interfere in Xiaoxi's marriage!"

Zhang Shaozi was so angry that she rolled her eyes. She would rather marry her daughter to him, but unfortunately Zhang Hongwei fell in love with Mu Huaixi. Mu Zhao's face turned red. When Mrs. Zhang came to see her that day, she wore her best clothes, but the eyes of Zhang and her son were all on the dusty Mu Huaixi, and no one looked at her at all.

"Jishan," Mu Boai frowned and said, "You said that our father arranged a marriage for Huaixi before he passed away, but no one has contacted us in the past two years. Who knew that she would still..."

"Hello, uncle. I'm Ying Mingcheng. I came here with Grandpa to pay his respects three years ago. Do you remember?" The man in military uniform stepped forward. "I think there must be some misunderstanding. The Ying family always sends packages every Spring Festival and birthday."

"But we never..." Mu Bo'ai was about to deny it when he felt a pain in his waist. Looking at the extremely guilty expression of the person beside him, what else did he not understand?

Ying Mingcheng took out the documents again, "I should have come to pick up Huaixi earlier, but my grandfather fell ill at the beginning of the year, and I was busy with things in the army, so I was delayed. But after receiving the telegram from my third uncle, I reported the marriage to my superiors and rushed over immediately!"

"Report? Who should I report to when I get married?" A nonchalant male voice sounded outside the door. Zhang Hongwei kicked the gate open, and the old wooden door finally fell down under the weight.

Zhang Hongwei, wearing a white shirt, navy pants, black leather shoes, and a flashy red flower tied to his right eye patch, walked in swaggeringly, followed by a group of five or six thugs.

"Mother-in-law, I'm here to pick up Sister Xixi!" Zhang Hongwei's eye lit up when he saw her. He shouted randomly to Mu's aunt-in-law and was about to rush to her.

The moment Mu Huaixi saw him, she felt cold all over and began to tremble unconsciously, but soon someone stood in front of her. The broad back was like a wall, blocking out all the unscrupulous peeping and meaningful glances.

"Don't be afraid."

Ying Mingcheng's voice was firm. He turned around and handed the file bag to her, but she was so scared that she stepped back repeatedly.

"I'm sorry," Ying Mingcheng apologized immediately. Seeing that she was still trembling, he slowed down his voice and said, "Don't be afraid. There are letters between Grandpa Mu and my grandfather in here. You can take a look and try to trust me."

Mu Huaixi was attracted by her grandfather's letter. She took it with trembling hands and after flipping through it, she found that her grandfather had long discovered that his eldest son was unreliable. He dragged his sick body to write a letter to Grandpa Ying to entrust him with the orphan. In the first few letters, Grandpa Ying persuaded him to go to Shengjing for treatment, but later he began to promote his own grandson, and finally persuaded her grandfather to arrange their marriage.

Grandpa's handwriting gradually became shaky, and the last few letters were even written by his third uncle. Mu Huaixi felt particularly sad when she thought of him worrying about his useless granddaughter while he was lying on his sickbed.

"We've met before," Ying Mingcheng said softly, "Three years ago, Grandpa and I came to pay our respects. You fainted and I was the one who carried you back."

"You are...Brother Orange?" Mu Huaixi suddenly had an impression. She cried so much for three days while keeping vigil for her grandfather that she fainted five times and vomited everything she ate. Someone boiled brown sugar water with oranges and made a little rabbit with orange peels to stop her vomiting.

"It's me," Ying Mingcheng was a little happy and a little embarrassed. Three years ago, Mu Huaixi was still a little girl, and he thought about how she has grown into a big girl now. "You have suffered in the past three years."

"Mu Huaixi, your husband is not dead yet!" Zhang Hongwei was still arguing with the eldest and third sons of the Mu family at first, but when he saw his wife, whom he had not yet got, was pulling with others, he rushed over in anger and squeezed between the two of them. He also deliberately pushed Ying Mingcheng back and raised his hand to slap the shameless woman.

Unfortunately, his physique was not strong enough in front of Ying Mingcheng. Not only did he fail to knock anyone else, but he also lost his pace. His raised hand was grabbed by Ying Mingcheng and thrown aside with a little force.

"Ouch, ouch," Zhang Hongwei rubbed his arm and pointed at Ying Mingcheng and cursed, "You bastard, do you know who I am? You dare to get in the way of me, Zhang Laodu, you want to die, right?! You think you're a toad just because you're green-skinned? This is the wife I bought with my own money! If you two keep pulling each other, I'll smash her head off!"

"Watch your mouth!" Ying Mingcheng's brows were tinged with anger. "Mu Huaixi and I have been engaged for a long time, and our marriage application has been approved. Are you trying to ruin our military marriage?!"

"That's right, anyone who disrupts a military marriage will be arrested and imprisoned!"

Mu Lao San's sudden shout frightened Zhang Hongwei so much that he trembled and his raised fist became heavy. He was fearless but did not want to go to jail again even if he died. However, there were so many brothers watching him, and if he let go easily, he would lose face.

He glared fiercely at Zhang Shaozi, who shuddered and immediately shouted even louder, "What military marriage! My niece and Zhang Hongwei have already obtained a marriage certificate. They are a legitimate couple!"

Zhang Hongwei was delighted that the Mu family's wife had taken the initiative. He clenched his fists and punched forward, calling out to his brothers, "Brothers, kill this soldier!"
