Chapter 28: Exorcism Powder

Everyone else in the health center brought their own lunch boxes and ate them at noon by heating them up on the stove. Mu Huaixi didn't prepare anything, so he went back to the cafeteria to eat.

When she came back, she ran into Li Fengjuan who was circling at the door. She was obviously waiting for her. Mu Huaixi met her shining eyes and walked forward. Before she could ask a question, she heard her excitedly say, "Doctor Mu, you are amazing! All the rats and bugs in the warehouse have run away!"

Mu Huaixi nodded without surprise. She bought some clematis and camphor at the market, and then she remembered the Mu family's ancestral spirit-repelling powder. She tried it in her new home last night and it worked quite well, so she sprinkled it along the wall of the warehouse this morning.

She wasn't trying to show off her skills, she was just worried that the herbs she had brought back with great difficulty would be destroyed by rats and insects. She originally planned to use the more powerful Soul-Destroying Powder, but considering that there were people coming in and out of the warehouse, she decided to just drive them away.

"Doctor Mu, you're amazing! Don't you know that the sheets we stored in the warehouse were torn up by mice and used as nests? Now it's your turn to take care of them!" Li Fengjuan looked at her admiringly, then suddenly realized, "Why didn't I get bit by mosquitoes while running around in the yard today? It must be your medicine, right?"

Hulu Valley is damp and dark, and there are always mountain mosquitoes before the snow. These mosquitoes are very large and will chase and bite people when they see them. Each bite leaves a big red bump, which is painful and itchy. The staff in the health center can only burn mugwort occasionally to drive them away, but they come back again as soon as the smell dissipates.

"The spirit-repelling powder can be effective for five or six days. In a few days, I will find some medicinal herbs and make some sachets to hang around. They can be used until the snow falls." Mu Huaixi also plans to transplant some insect-repellent herbs outside the clinic in the spring to avoid having to wear long clothes and long pants in the summer.

"Okay, okay, Dr. Mu, I'm leaving you in charge." Li Fengjuan thought for a moment, hesitated, and offered her a suggestion. "Actually, Dr. Mu, you could tell us what you're good at. That way, we can promote you when patients come."

Mu Huaixi nodded, "Thank you."

"What are you thanking me for, Doctor Mu? Why didn't you tell me you were putting medicine in the warehouse?" Wang Xiaohua poked her head out of the door with tears in her eyes, complaining, "Do you know how I felt when I opened the door and saw a swarm of insects and rats rushing out? I was so scared that I almost jumped onto the roof!"

"......", Mu Huaixi then remembered that she had sprinkled medicine powder on every wall of the warehouse, and the warehouse was not like a new house with few windows and doors. The insects and rats were stimulated by the medicine powder and ran away. They had no choice but to escape from the only main gate that was not sprinkled with medicine. Who knew they would be caught by Wang Xiaohua.

"Sorry," Mu Huaixi really didn't expect this to happen, but Wang Xiaohua asked shyly, "Doctor Mu, do you have any more of this powder? I, I want to sprinkle some in my room..."

"Well," Mu Huaixi pondered for a moment, "the Exorcist Powder is still poisonous. If it's sprinkled in the house, I'm afraid I won't be able to live here for a few days."

"It's okay, it's okay," Wang Xiaohua waved her hand and took Li Fengjuan's arm again. "Juan'er, clean up my room first. I'll go to your place to sleep for a few days, and then I'll clean up your room too. How about that?"

It turned out that Wang Xiaohua usually lived in Li Fengjuan's house and only went to the city once every few months of vacation. Mu Huaixi asked carefully about the size of the house and told them some things to pay attention to.

"Doctor Mu, how much is this powder?"

Mu Huaixi waved his hand and said, "This is for my own use, no charge."

"How can I do that?" Wang Xiaohua was getting stubborn and wanted to take out her wallet, but Li Fengjuan suppressed her. She held down Xiaohua's arm and said hurriedly, "Then Doctor Mu, let me make you two pairs of sleeves. I see your clothes are quite new. If they get stained with ink, it will be difficult to wash them."

Wang Xiaohua finally realized what was going on. She opened her mouth, but couldn't think of anything special about herself. She could only say, "I'll bring you a box of lobster cakes tomorrow. They're delicious!"

Mu Huaixi smiled and nodded, and decided to bring some candy for these two lovely girls tomorrow.

The afternoon in the health center was still quiet. Mu Huaixi read the medical book for a while, but couldn't find the feeling of the morning. He got up and moved around. He asked Li Fengjuan for a piece of red paper and carefully folded it into a grid.

Wang Xiaohua, who was roasting peanuts by the fire, came over curiously. "Doctor Mu, are you going to write some big characters? Can I help you grind the ink?"

Mu Huaixi glanced at her, nodded, pushed the inkstone over, and slowly began to fold the paper. In the Mu family, students of medicine must learn calligraphy. Mu Huaixi remembered that the first calligraphy lesson her grandfather taught her when she was a child was not about holding a pen or writing the word "Yong", but about folding paper.

Origami is about creating grids, but also about "understanding the universe." The process of folding helps one organize their thoughts, and by the time the paper is folded, the words they want to write are already well-defined. However, Mu Huaixi hadn't written for a long time, so he first found some cut-out red paper to practice on.

Calligraphy, like a golden needle, requires a single, smooth stroke. Without giving it a second thought, Mu Huaixi picked up her brush, dipped it in ink, and immediately laid down her feelings on the paper. Seeing the brushstrokes as powerful as the tip of a needle, Mu Huaixi nodded slightly, then pulled over the folded paper and, stroke by stroke, wrote the "sign" she would post outside her door.

"Rheumatism and bone pain, a summer disease treated in winter?" Wang Xiaohua tilted her head. "Doctor Mu, what does this mean? Rheumatism is a summer disease?"

"No, these are two. I can treat rheumatism and bone pain, as well as winter and summer diseases," Mu Huaixi explained. "Didn't you ask me what I'm good at? Let's start with these two."

"How to treat rheumatic bone pain? My mother's waist and knees hurt when it rains or snows. Can it be cured? And what is this "summer disease treated in winter"? Why have I only heard of winter disease treated in summer?" Li Fengjuan asked curiously. She thought it would be great to have a Chinese medicine doctor in the health center. There were many people like her mother in the village. If it could really be cured, she would definitely help promote it!
