Chapter 30 First Meeting Luo Rui

The work at the health center wasn't too busy. Mu Huaixi came in the morning to clean up and then continued reading medical books. Not long after, Xiao Gao came over and handed her a document. "Comrade Mu, the price of the plaster has been approved. Take a look."

Mu Huaixi had discussed this matter with Captain Wei before. Most of the medicinal materials she brought from Jiangcheng were used to make plasters, but the pricing needed approval. She thought it would take ten days or half a month to get approved, but she didn't expect it to be approved so quickly.

Xiao Gao looked around and leaned closer, saying, "We have to thank Political Commissar Li for this, but he hopes the health center can become well-known before the Spring Festival so that they can apply for more medicines after the New Year.

"You should talk to Doctor Jiang about this," Mu Huaixi looked at him in surprise. She was very clear about her position. She was a local representative in the military-civilian cooperation hospital, a temporary staff member, and the "flower" that added icing on the cake. Doctor Jiang had to make the decisions on all matters big and small in the health center.

"Hey, sister-in-law, we're close, so let me tell you something first," Xiao Gao didn't shy away from admitting his "partiality." He touched his nose and continued, "I'm just hoping that if you have a way, you can get a permanent position sooner."

"I understand. But the plaster needs to soak for ten days, and it won't be effective in just one day." Seeing that he was pacing around his desk and refused to go to Dr. Jiang, Mu Huaixi could only shake her head and said, "Alright, I'll go talk to Dr. Jiang."

"Okay, then I'll go first," Xiao Gao waved at her and ran towards the door, almost bumping into Wang Xiaohua who was rushing in.

"What's the rush?" Wang Xiaohua rolled her eyes at Xiao Gao's back, then turned around and said to Mu Huaixi with a smile, "Doctor Mu, hurry up! They're going to the lake to catch fish. This is the last time before the New Year. Let's go and watch the fun!"

Mu Huaixi was confused and pulled Wang Xiaohua back, "Wait a minute, I have something to say to Doctor Jiang first."

As soon as she finished speaking, the curtain was drawn aside. Doctor Jiang appeared before her with a chilling aura. He knocked on her desk and said, "Doctor Mu, the regiment is going to the lake to fish. You and... Xiao Wang should go to the lake and make some ginger tea. I'll stay at the clinic today."

"Also, the regiment headquarters just talked to me about something. Let's discuss it when you come back."

Mu Huaixi immediately thought of what Xiao Gao said. She didn’t have any good ideas yet, so she nodded and followed Wang Xiaohua.

"Doctor Mu, do you think Doctor Jiang doesn't want you to go with me?" Wang Xiaohua complained with a pout. She habitually wanted to hold the hand of the person next to her, but Mu Huaixi dodged her.

Mu Huaixi wasn't used to her little tricks, but seeing Wang Xiaohua's pouting lips almost enough to hang a bottle of oil on them, he quickly led them to the warehouse, "Xiaohua, do you want to cook something else?"

"Anything else? But the regiment asked us to make ginger soup." Wang Xiaohua burst into laughter, her imagination running wild. "Doctor Mu, you can't just cook two pots of cornmeal, right?"

"That's not the case. Let's make some more advanced ginger soup." Mu Huaixi opened the warehouse and picked up two herbs from it. "Let's go. I'll teach you how to make the Five Gods Soup."

"Five Gods Soup?" Wang Xiaohua's eyes lit up immediately. She hurried over to her side and looked at the herbs she was holding curiously. "Doctor Mu, what is Five Gods Soup?"

"You'll know in a while," Mu Huaixi kept the secret and took a detour to the cafeteria to get some ingredients before heading to the lake.

Walking west from the cafeteria and going forward along the mountain road, Mu Huaixi could gradually feel the moisture in the air. He took a deep breath, walked around a big tree, and a vast expanse of water appeared before his eyes.

This lake is really huge. The surface of the lake is sparkling with silver light in the warm sunshine and breeze. The tall reeds on the shore are swaying in the wind. A group of soldiers are busy on the rocky beach not far away.

"One, two, one, two, one, two..."

When Mu Huaixi and Wang Xiaohua went over, two teams of soldiers were carrying wooden boats down the mountain. The man and woman in the lead were staring at each other, shouting slogans louder than the other, as if they wanted to trip the other with their eyes.

Only then did Mu Huaixi discover that one of the teams was actually female soldiers. They all had short hair and could lift the birch fishing boat effortlessly. In the end, they even reached the lake before the male soldiers and pushed the boat into the water with cheers.

"Report! Instructor Luo, we're here first!" A female soldier trotted to the stove and saluted another heroic female officer neatly.

Mu Huaixi's ears twitched, and she subconsciously looked over, and heard the male officer standing next to her say helplessly, "Luo Rui, don't compete with us for this fishing business. I know female soldiers can hold up half the sky, but the lake water is too cold. It's better for girls not to go in the water."

"Captain Hu, we don't need special treatment. Besides, I know my soldiers. They're excellent at rowing and swimming." Instructor Luo refused to give in. He then said to the female soldiers waiting nearby, "What are you waiting for? Both boats are ours. Get aboard and start fishing!"

"Yes!" the female soldier answered loudly, and trotted to call others to start the boat.

"This is our regiment's only female company. So impressive! So cool!" Wang Xiaohua held her face in her hands and looked longingly toward the shore. Then her gaze shifted to Luo Rui, and she raised her shoulder and bumped into Mu Huaixi twice. "Hey, did you know? In the regiment's martial arts competition in June, Instructor Luo defeated fourteen people in a row. If your family hadn't stopped her, she would have become the first female martial arts champion!"

Mu Huaixi quickly moved to the side and avoided Xiaohua's continuous attacks, but she was really surprised. She thought that the other party, as an instructor, was following a political line, but she didn't expect that he was so powerful in martial arts. Looking at Luo Rui's powerful inverted triangle shoulders and long legs in leather boots, she suddenly understood why someone insisted on involving Luo Rui and Ying Mingcheng together.

The combination of two powerful people, loving and hating each other, isn’t this the match made in heaven that many fans of strong people are looking forward to?

If Ying Mingcheng hadn't married her, maybe she would have...

Maybe their gazes were too explicit, Luo Rui turned her head suddenly and met her flashing eyes. Wang Xiaohua was even more excited, her face flushed and she was at a loss.

Fortunately, Luo Rui quickly withdrew her gaze. Mu Huaixi heard Wang Xiaohua's regretful yet relieved sigh and shook his head inwardly, fearing that this fangirl would say something strange later. He handed the herbs to her and said, "Xiaohua, go wash the herbs."

Wang Xiaohua immediately became nervous. "Where's this...Five Gods Soup? What if I ruin it?"

"Go wash them. These are Schizonepeta and Perilla. They can't be damaged by washing." Mu Huaixi then realized that she was frightened by the name of the Five Gods Soup. He explained with a smile, and after she left doubtfully, he went to the stove to process the ginger.

This Wushen Soup was a recipe she saw in the annotations of "Jinkui Yaolue" and was also recorded in "Huizhitang Experience Prescriptions". It only required Schizonepeta tenuifolia, Perilla frutescens, tea leaves, ginger and rock sugar to cook a pot of medicine that could dispel wind and cold, induce sweating and reduce fever.

Mu Huaixi believes that it is called the Five Gods Soup not because the medicinal ingredients are so precious, but rather because these five ingredients can be found in the kitchen or in the hall. It is a classic recipe that is cheap and effective, and can be regarded as an upgraded version of ginger soup.
