Chapter 66 Heartbeat

"My dad got this book from the garbage station," Pei Ru said nostalgically, stroking the book cover. "You think it's precious because you're someone who understands it. But this book was just a tabletop cushion at the garbage station. It's just a collection in our house. It'll be of the greatest use in your hands."

Mu Huaixi's face turned red, her heart was burning, and her hands were shaking when she took the book. This was not just a book, but also Sister Pei's recognition and expectations of her.

"I will definitely keep it well and study hard!" Mu Huaixi hugged the book and murmured almost like a vow.

"Look how scared you are of the child," Song Zhengxin said, pushing the wheelchair over. "I told you to prepare some fabrics and jewelry for the little girl, but you refused."

Song Zhengxin has always been the big brother, and he looks at Ying Mingcheng like his own younger brother. When he looks at Mu Huaixi, he always feels that he is still a child, which is very inconsistent.

"No, no, no," Mu Huaixi waved her hands quickly, a satisfied blush on her face. "The medical book is great, great! Thank you, Brother Song and Sister-in-law!"

Song Zhengxin just wanted to liven up the atmosphere, but he didn't expect her to be so honest. He looked at Ying Mingcheng in surprise, wondering where this guy had tricked such a sincere girl into coming.

At first, Old Song was worried that the girl was deceived by Ying Mingcheng's appearance, but after this meal, he felt that there is always a nemesis. In his eyes, the boy who always seemed to be a little naughty has also learned to take care of others.

He couldn't help but think of when he first got married. At that time, there was no policy of accompanying his wife to the army, and they only had the chance to see each other once every two or three years. Once they met, he was much more clingy than Ying Mingcheng.

"Cherish the good days, you little bastard!"

Ying Mingcheng was slapped for no reason, but he didn't make a fuss with Lao Song. Firstly, he was in a good mood, and secondly, Lao Song used to jump up and hit him on the head, but now he could only hit him on the thigh. What was there to make a fuss about?

After saying goodbye to Old Song and Mrs. Pei, Ying Mingcheng still sent her to the room upstairs and helped her fetch water and clean.

"I mopped the floor this morning. Aren't you leaving early tomorrow morning? Go back and rest!" Mu Huaixi snatched the mop from his hand and drove him out.

Ying Mingcheng let go of the mop, but picked up the foot basin again, "It's cold outside, I'll get you some water and then I'll leave."

Mu Huaixi saw him rush to the door in just a few steps, and she felt angry and moved. She wanted him to go back and rest early, but why didn't this man listen to a word!

Fortunately, Ying Mingcheng did not insist on waiting for her to finish washing her feet and pour water before leaving as he did in the previous few days. He just ran again to fill the kettle and then said goodbye to her.

"Let's go!" Mu Huaixi pushed his back with both hands and pushed him to the door. She knew very well that she couldn't push Ying Mingcheng with her strength. But when she saw him pretending to be unable to walk and leaning back carefully, she couldn't help but curl her lips.

"Have a good rest," Mu Huaixi pushed him to the door and patted his clothes reluctantly, "Come back safely..."

Seeing that he didn't move, Mu Huaixi pushed him with both hands again. Unexpectedly, Ying Mingcheng took a step forward. Her hands did not touch his strong back, but she lost her balance and was carried forward.

"Ah!" Mu Huaixi screamed before she could utter a single word. She felt a gust of wind, and then she crashed into a solid and warm wall. It was Ying Mingcheng who turned around and caught her. Her cheek was pressed against Ying Mingcheng's chest, and she could hear his steady and powerful heartbeat.

"Boom, boom, boom..."

"What a healthy heart sound." Mu Huaixi had just learned how to listen to heart sounds from Dr. Jiang. For a moment, she forgot that she was still lying in someone else's arms and began to admire Ying Mingcheng's heartbeat.

His heartbeat was slower than that of an average person, but each beat was strong and clear, without any noise.

"Well, you have a really healthy heart."

"You really are..." Ying Mingcheng thought she would be shy after "throwing herself into his arms", but he didn't expect that she would lie on his chest and listen very carefully. He was a little slow to understand what the girl was doing, and he felt both amused and helpless for a moment.

He had discovered last time that when she was particularly embarrassed, she would pretend to be busy and serious. If he hadn't seen her red ears when he lowered his head, he would have believed it.

Mu Huaixi didn't look up, but she could feel the vibration of the strong chest in front of her. She knew that he was laughing at her. She angrily propped herself up and was about to get up, but was pressed down by two big hands on her waist and fell back down.

Two more people checked into the guesthouse in the past few days. Mu Huaixi only heard the gentle sounds of people being coaxed to sleep coming from the room next door at this moment. He felt a buzzing in his head and felt like he was going to collapse.

What was she just doing!

Seeing that she was so frustrated that she was about to fume, Ying Mingcheng suppressed his laughter and patted her head, then pulled her into his arms and hugged her tightly. However, what he was thinking in his heart was that the food in the cafeteria was really not nourishing. The little girl's waist was still so thin, and he would have to nourish her well when he came back.

The night wind rushed in from the window at the end of the corridor, brushing against her clothes and bringing a cool breeze. Mu Huaixi poked her head out from the hot embrace, wanting to take a breath of cool air to wake herself up.

But Ying Mingcheng reacted faster than her. He adjusted his position slightly and used his body to completely block the cold wind, fearing that she would catch a cold.

“…”

Mu Huaixi gave up struggling and just pretended that she was really listening to her heartbeat. She buried herself in Ying Mingcheng's military uniform and felt the endless warmth.

Ying Mingcheng didn't say anything else, but just hugged her quietly for a while. To be honest, he had wanted to hug her since he came back from the mission, but he didn't expect that he would hug her by accident until now.

He couldn't explain why he wanted to give her a hug. At first, he just wanted to take care of her, but when he was on a mission, he kept thinking of her and even dreamed of her twice. The first time, he felt eager to go home.

"Our house is now habitable," Mu Huaixi pulled down his clothes and said sullenly, "Let's move in together when you come back."

In fact, she couldn't wait to move out tomorrow. The thought that the neighbors might hear what happened tonight made her feel embarrassed. But that was not her home alone. Perhaps Ying Mingcheng also wanted to experience the surprise of moving into a new home.

"Our home."

"Together."

Listen, how can anyone not like her?

Ying Mingcheng repeated these two words over and over in his mind, feeling a throbbing he had never felt before. It was as if a hive of wild bees had taken up residence in his heart, buzzing and crashing around, throwing the original order into chaos. However, the sweet honey kept flowing down, making him both worried and happy.

He hummed and hugged her tighter. When he heard the horn sounding outside the window, he pinched her waist reluctantly and carried her into the house with one lift and then another.

"Let's go. You just wait for me at our house."
