Chapter 339: A Turning Point Before the Final Battle

When Mou Xuan's knuckles brushed the edge of the tactical tablet, Researcher Jiang was nailed to the lead wall by the scalpel in his hand.

The blood beads that oozed out of the spider-web-like cracks in the protective mask condensed into red ice crystals in the air at minus twenty degrees Celsius.

"The symbiotic bacteria are sharing its fear." Chen Yao crushed the ice and pressed it on Mou Xuan's bleeding temple. The mycelium network projected a dark blue topological map in her pupils. "That piece of metal ring... is the fragment of the graphite sealing ring used in the emergency repair of the nuclear power plant seven years ago!"

The corpses of the engineer ants in the sewage pipe suddenly exploded into black spore mist, and Chen Yao's ice shield shattered into ice chips amid the alarm.

Mou Xuan grabbed the strap of Researcher Jiang's radiation protection suit and dragged him out of the danger zone. The screams of the symbiotic bacteria were accompanied by intermittent time and space coordinates - it was the abandoned fuel pool on the eighteenth floor underground of the nuclear power plant.

"The weakness lies in the graphite crystal structure!" Researcher Jiang coughed up blood and took a photo of the microscope data on the operating table. On the display screen, the mutant cells magnified 100,000 times were gnawing at the ripples of space-time. "Before they teleport each time, the exoskeleton will have a 0.3 second lattice misalignment!"

Qin weapons developer kicked open the door of the laboratory, still holding the acid-corroded weapon drawings in his hand.

When Researcher Jiang placed the petri dish on the observation port of the particle accelerator, both of them gasped as they stared at the mass of black matter that was gnawing at the ripples of space-time.

"Give me two hours." Qin, the weapon developer, tore up the original design and traced a shadow on the particle collision parameter table with his finger. "Fatty Lu! Find all the graphite seal fragments in the reactor waste storage!"

Logistics support officer Lu's cold-proof mask was covered with frost. He was kneeling in the sewage pipe and using an electromagnet to salvage metal debris. "Do you think I'm Doraemon?" The mycelium network suddenly flashed on his retina, and Mou Xuan's cold voice pierced his eardrums directly: "The third load-bearing column of the underground garage in Area D."

Fifteen minutes later, Fatty Lu, covered in ice, kicked open the door of the weapons laboratory. In the lead box tightly in his arms lay seven graphite rings covered with teeth marks.

The Qin weapon developer stuffed one of the pieces into the particle accelerator, and the mutated cells on the display suddenly emitted a harsh ultrasonic wave.

"It's done!" He laughed wildly and pressed the start button. The particle stream brushed past Researcher Jiang's ear tip and hit the petri dish.

The mass of black matter curled up into a ball in the blue light of absolute zero, emitting a high-frequency scream similar to nails scratching a blackboard.

The defensive wall on the top floor of the nuclear power plant collapsed, and the mountain-like black shadow of the mutant creature leader broke through the blizzard.

Mou Xuan's tactical dagger pierced into the crack of the center console, and the symbiotic bacteria network exploded with a bloody warning on everyone's retina.

"Chen Yao, take a team to the underground fuel pool." Mou Xuan threw out three liquid nitrogen bombs, and the shock wave blew away the swarm of engineer ants that rushed in. "Researcher Jiang will follow Engineer Qin to debug the weapons. Captain Han will move the medical point to the second floor of the reactor--"

He suddenly froze in place.

A strange backtracking signal came from the mycelium network. The engineer ant colony that should have been blown to pieces three minutes ago was now lying intact at the corner of the sewage pipe.

Chen Yao's ice spikes were suspended in the air, and the scalpel in Captain Han's hand suddenly began to rotate counterclockwise.

"They are learning from you." The ripples of time and space were reflected in Chen Yao's pupils, and the cracks on the ice shield were recovering at a speed visible to the naked eye. "These beasts... are imitating your time reversal!"

Mou Xuan's symbiotic bacteria suddenly erupted and pierced his carotid artery, and the gushing blood condensed into countdown numbers in the air.

When the last number exploded into ice crystals, all the defense walls of the nuclear power plant lit up with a faint blue halo at the same time - that was the Qin weapon developer installing the graphite resonator into the base of the particle cannon.

The roar of the mutant leader shattered the last piece of bulletproof glass, and tens of thousands of mutants crashed into the core area like a black tsunami.

Mou Xuan stood in front of the particle cannon control console, watching the red tide representing the enemy on the tactical map gradually approaching the last line of defense.

Amid the buzzing sound of the resonator starting up, he felt some undried blood on the operating table - it was left when Researcher Jiang was scratched by the scalpel just now.

When the vanguard of the mutant creatures broke through the underground garage, all the graphite sealing fragments suddenly resonated in the lead box.

"Fire!"

Chen Yao's roar mixed with the alarm sound. The moment Qin Weapon Developer pressed the start button, the foundation of the entire nuclear power plant suddenly trembled strangely.

The blue light emitted by the particle cannon did not fly towards the enemy group, but instead seemed to be pulled by some force and shot towards the direction of the underground fuel pool.

The mycelium network was collectively silent at this moment.

All of Mou Xuan's symbiotic bacteria tentacles suddenly turned towards the bottom of the control panel - there lay a graphite ring engraved with a project number, slowly oozing out fresh dark red liquid in a way that violated the laws of physics.

(Continuation)

When the blue light of the particle cannon penetrated three layers of concrete slabs, Chen Yao's ice spikes were stuck between the compound eyes of the mutant creature's leader.

A strange resonance frequency came from the mycelium network, and Mou Xuan suddenly cut off the emergency cable under the operating table. The dark red liquid flowed back along the threads of the graphite ring to form a blood moon totem.

"Adjust the resonance frequency to 1986 Hz!" Researcher Jiang grabbed a half-broken scalpel and stabbed it into the gap of the center console. The blood beads oozing out of the wound actually drew a diagram of the fuel pool structure under the traction of the hyphae.

The weapon developer Qin suddenly seemed to remember something and entered the particle collision parameters backwards three times.

When the blue light touched the spent fuel pool, the cesium-137 remaining from the nuclear leak seven years ago suddenly produced a chain reaction with the graphite crystals.

In the white light that erupted from the mycelium network, the mountain-like body of the mutant creature's leader was like an ant colony that had been paused, and its exoskeleton was shattered into powder in the ripples of time and space.
