The emergency lights of the observatory were buzzing overhead. Mou Xuan rolled up the signal transmitter with mycelium, and blood beads condensed on the metal casing dripped onto Shen Yao's combat boots.
He suddenly remembered the body found on the river beach three days ago - the same Big Dipper tattoo, but the position of the seventh star was burned into the logo of a pharmaceutical company by a soldering iron.
"They are using mutants as living signal towers." The mycelium wrapped around the chip debris and hung in front of Chen Yao. The miniature Beidou on the charred circuit board was oozing light green liquid. "These implants will release neurotoxins at certain frequencies."
A red alert suddenly popped up on Liao's tactical tablet. He frantically called up the 3D map: "Twenty modified trucks set out from the warehouse area in the west of the city fifteen minutes ago. They are now three kilometers away from the observation station!"
Chen Yao suddenly used the tip of the dagger to pick up the fragments of military silk in the gaps between the floor tiles. The silk threads that should have been white were now glowing a strange indigo color. "You deliberately overloaded the mycelium?" She leaned close to Mou Xuan's sweat-soaked collar and smelled the unique sweet smell of fungal spores. "Even the self-healing function is turned off?"
"We have to leave some loopholes for the audience." Mou Xuan's fingertips brushed across the bullet holes in the wall, and the hyphae weaved a tangled network in the concrete.
When Chen Yao's breath brushed the back of his neck, the hyphae that pretended to be out of control suddenly jumped up and twisted into the shape of seven Big Dipper constellations in the ventilation duct.
Assistant investigator Liao pushed open the door of the switch room while holding the electromagnetic pulse device and was nearly tripped by the crawling mycelium on the ground.
He saw Mou Xuan stuffing the last unconscious psychic into the freezer, and there were bite marks from rodents on the sealing strip of the hatch.
"All the freezing chambers have been stress-treated." Chen Yao suddenly hung upside down from the top of the steel frame. The mycelium wrapped around her waist was vibrating at the same frequency as a hamster gnawing on the cable. "When those bastards rush in, they will see twenty-two melting ice coffins - it's like we're really trapped by the delaying tactic."
The sound of a modified car crushing gravel came from outside the observation station, and Mou Xuan's mycelium suddenly pierced his temple.
Chen Yao saw the reflection of the Big Dipper floating in his irises, and the position of the seventh star was resonating with an office building three kilometers away - that was an unfinished building that was acquired by a pharmaceutical company three days ago.
"Here it comes." Mou Xuan coughed out blood foam mixed with mycelium and deliberately let the flashlight roll to the corner of the stairs that was covered with bullet shells.
When the first incendiary bomb smashed the bulletproof glass of the observatory, he controlled the mycelium to stagger and fall in front of the surveillance camera, and his lower back hit the distribution box where the electromagnetic pulse device was hidden.
In the command vehicle seven hundred meters away, the mysterious organization leader Jiao stared at the red shadow fleeing in panic in the thermal imager, rubbing the Big Dipper scar on his palm with his fingertips.
The display screen behind him was playing alarms of twenty-two freezers being thawed simultaneously, and a yellowish liquid similar to cerebrospinal fluid was even oozing out of one of the ice coffins.
"Send the third echelon forward." He pressed the communicator, his scar glowing metallic under the blue light, "Remember to pay special attention to that pretty boy who plays with mycelium."
An electromagnetic storm suddenly exploded on the rooftop of the observatory. Chen Yao looked at the swarm of drones that were burned to charcoal by the pulse and suddenly broke the mycelium necklace around her neck.
The moment those white threads fell to the ground, the foundation of the entire observatory groaned like a glacier cracking - twenty-eight mycelium clusters disguised as load-bearing columns exploded at the same time, wrapping the minions that rushed in into cocoons that glowed with blue light.
When assistant investigator Liao pulled the unconscious psychics out of the ventilation duct, he discovered that the chip slots behind their ears were stuffed with hamster hair.
The roar of a helicopter engine was heard in the distance. He looked up and saw that the pharmaceutical company's logo was perfectly aligned with the seventh star of the Big Dipper, and Mou Xuan's mycelium had already crawled along the oil pipeline into the office building three kilometers away.
Chief Jiao stared at the surveillance screen which suddenly went black, and the cigar between his fingertips gave off a burnt smell as it rolled over Beidou's scar.
The floor-to-ceiling window behind him reflected the entire boiling west city warehouse area, and the frost on the roof of a refrigerated truck was condensing into the unique spiral patterns of mycelium.

The moment Mou Xuan's lower back hit the distribution box, the mycelium from his cuffs had already drilled into the ventilation duct along the cables.
Chen Yao's dagger left an afterimage at her fingertips, cutting off three detection optical fibers hanging from the ceiling. Before the blue-glowing wires hit the ground, they were wrapped by mycelium into the shape of the Big Dipper and rolled towards the stairs.
"Left wing load-bearing column." The blood foam that Mou Xuan coughed up was mixed with ice chips, and the mycelium wrote Morse code on the soles of Shen Yao's boots.
When the seventh minion stepped on the mycelium trap disguised as a bullet hole, the entire concrete wall suddenly exploded into fluorescent powder, revealing twenty-eight metal balls vibrating at a high frequency behind it.
Assistant Liao was nearly knocked over by the recoil of the electromagnetic pulser.
He saw Chen Yao hanging upside down on a steel frame chewing an energy bar, the mycelium imitating the biting frequency of a hamster's incisors - the metal balls suddenly cracked at the same time, and the fluorescent powder that burst out formed the logo of a pharmaceutical company in the air, just covering the five minions that rushed in.
"The thawing progress of the cryochamber is 78%!" Assistant Liao shouted until his voice broke.
The tactical tablet showed that twenty-two ice coffins were oozing yellowish liquid, and one cabin even began to play brain wave noise - this was originally an illusion they designed, but now he clearly saw hyphae seeping out from the sealing strips.
Blood suddenly burst out from Mou Xuan's temple.
He deliberately let the mycelium wrap around Chen Yao's waist out of control, and the two of them smashed the bulletproof glass of the observatory and rolled to the rooftop.
On the thermal imager from seven hundred meters away, this scene looked like an accident that occurred during a hasty escape.
"The drainpipe in the southeast corner." Chen Yao licked the blood from the corner of her mouth, and the mycelium twisted into the shape of a key to the pharmaceutical company's refrigerated truck in her palm.
When the modified vehicles of the third echelon rolled over the minefield, the electromagnetic mines that were supposed to explode suddenly began to play the sleep-inducing sound effects of hamsters chewing nuts - the minions' tactical helmets were immediately filled with teeth-grinding friction sounds.
