Chapter 37 Encounter and Crisis at the Market

The small town market is bustling with people, hawking and bargaining sounds one after another, forming a noisy symphony of the market.

Mou Xuan's low-key outfit could not conceal the cold aura emanating from him.

He moved among the crowd as vigilantly as a cheetah, scanning every corner with his sharp eyes, trying to catch any sign of something unusual.

There was a sense of tension in the air, like the calm before the storm.

"Fresh vegetables, come and take a look!"

"It's sold at a low price, don't miss it if you pass by!"

The hawking sounds came one after another, but it did not affect Mou Xuan's concentration at all.

He keenly noticed that today's market seemed quieter than usual, and some familiar faces had disappeared.

Just then, a figure came into his sight.

It was a young woman, agile and with sharp eyes, who was bargaining with a vendor.

She is Chen Yao.

Chen Yao also noticed Mou Xuan. She looked him up and down. This man was well-equipped and it was obvious that he was not an ordinary person.

Their eyes met, and sparks seemed to fly in the air.

"Brother, you look unfamiliar. Is this your first time in our town?" Chen Yao was the first to break the silence, with a tentative tone in his voice.

"Just take a look." Mou Xuan said briefly and in a cold tone.

Chen Yao did not back off because of his coldness, but became even more curious.

She walked up to Mou Xuan and asked casually, "Brother, this equipment is pretty good. It looks like you have prepared it in advance."

Mou Xuan glanced at her and said nothing.

Chen Yao didn't care and continued, "The world is not peaceful now, so we should make more preparations."

Mou Xuan remained silent, but he was full of vigilance towards Chen Yao's appearance.

The timing of this woman's appearance was so coincidental that he had to doubt her purpose.

"Brother, I think you are a smart man. How about we work together?" Chen Yao suddenly said with a hint of temptation in his tone.

Mou Xuan finally spoke: "Cooperation? Why do you think you can do that?"

Chen Yao smiled and said, “Because I know something you don’t know.”

The atmosphere between the two became subtle, they were testing each other and wary of each other.

"What do you want to know?" Mou Xuan asked.

Chen Yao leaned close to him and whispered, “For example, I know you have hoarded a lot of supplies…”

Mou Xuan's eyes became stern, and a murderous aura flashed across his eyes.

Chen Yao's words undoubtedly hit Mou Xuan's sore spot.

He turned back suddenly, staring at Chen Yao with hawk-like eyes, as if he wanted to see through her.

"Who are you?" He asked in a cold tone with a hint of warning.

Just then, a noisy sound of footsteps broke the tense atmosphere between the two.

"Behave yourself! Hand over all your valuables!" A rough roar echoed throughout the market.

The bandit leader Fang, accompanied by a group of followers, walked over in a swagger, holding various weapons in their hands.

Cui the bandit's henchmen followed behind with lewd smiles on their faces, like a group of hungry wolves seeing their prey.

The atmosphere in the market froze in an instant, and the scene that was so lively just now suddenly became silent.

The residents of Hong Town turned pale with fear and fled away, hiding behind stalls or in nearby houses.

The hawking and bargaining sounds came to an abrupt end, replaced by screams and cries one after another.

There was a smell of fear in the air, as if death had arrived.

Mou Xuan's eyes flashed, and he calmly reached into his pocket and clenched the weapon he had prepared.

He glanced at the surrounding terrain and quickly assumed a defensive posture. The powerful aura emanating from him made the originally arrogant bandits stunned for a moment and dared not act rashly.

Unexpectedly, Chen Yao did not hide like other residents, but stood up and faced those ferocious robbers.

"What do you want to do? How dare you rob in broad daylight?" She spoke in a firm tone without any fear.

Bandit leader Fang looked Chen Yao up and down, "Oh, you're still a hot girl! You're quite brave! If you know what's good for you, just follow us and avoid physical pain!"

Chen Yao sneered: "Just relying on a mob like you?"

The bandit leader Fang was enraged by her words. He waved his machete and said viciously, "If you don't accept my toast, you will be punished! Brothers, come on!"

Just as the robbers were about to attack, Mou Xuan suddenly stood in front of Chen Yao.

"If you want to touch her, you have to get past me first." His tone was cold, like a verdict from hell.

Chen Yao looked at the figure standing in front of her, a complex emotion welling up in her heart.

She originally thought that this man was just a loner, but she didn't expect that he would stand up for her.

Mou Xuan ignored Chen Yao's surprise, but stared at the robbers intently, ready to take action at any time.

He knew very well that this fierce battle today was inevitable.

"It seems that I need to stretch my muscles today." The corners of his mouth rose slightly, revealing a bloodthirsty smile.

Seeing Mou Xuan being so arrogant, bandit leader Fang became even more furious. He waved his hand and his minions rushed up like wild dogs, waving their machetes and iron rods and hacking at Mou Xuan and Shen Yao.

"Fuck, these guys are so shameless!" Mou Xuan cursed softly, dodged the big knife that was coming down on his head by leaning sideways, and kicked one of the minions with a whip-like kick, knocking him away and knocking down a stall.

Chen Yao was not to be outdone. She dodged several iron rods nimbly. A dagger appeared in her hand, flashing with a cold light, leaving blood marks on the robber's body.
