Chapter 63 Empress Cheng Avenges Her Humiliation, Consort Su Falls into Hell
Consort Su instantly snapped to her senses upon hearing the voice. In a panic, she tried to push him away, shouting, "Are you an assassin?"
The man panicked and hurriedly denied it, "I'm not an assassin, I'm really not an assassin, didn't you bring me into the palace and hide me here, Your Majesty?"
Seeing his pretty-boy appearance, Consort Su was no longer concerned about whether he was an assassin, but rather that if a man suddenly appeared in her palace and was caught, she would be doomed.
She said sternly, "You hide first."
The man was panicked and dared not think of anything else. The desire in his body had not yet subsided, and he was so frightened that he couldn't back out.
"Get up!" Consort Su said softly.
"I...I can't get up." The man trembled with fear. He hadn't thought about the consequences at all. He was blinded by lust and only felt excited. Now it was too late to regret it.
Consort Su thought this was the wardrobe in the side hall, and the two of them were hiding in the cramped space, neither up nor down. She was also nervous. "Hurry up, don't be nervous. The Imperial Guards are searching for assassins. They wouldn't dare to break into my bedroom."
The man was both shocked and frightened, and Consort Su was terrified. It seemed that more and more people were gathering outside, and the flashing of swords and the flickering of gunfire were striking the windows...
Consort Su thought she could get away with it, but little did she know that these would be her last good days in the palace.
Outside the door, the Empress also rushed over. Several princes and the Imperial Guards had practically turned the harem upside down, but they still couldn't find the assassin. It made people wonder if someone had made a mistake. At this point, they wanted to find out who first discovered the assassin, but there was no time to do so. They prepared to go back and report to the Emperor.
Empress Cheng looked around. With such a commotion, why hadn't anyone come out of Luanfeng Palace? There were clearly flames burning inside, which meant there were people inside.
She ordered in a deep voice, "The Luanfeng Palace hasn't been investigated yet. Could the assassin have hidden inside? Lord Shang, don't you find this suspicious?"
Commander Shang was also puzzled. Why were there no servants on duty in Consort Su's palace? Could it be that an assassin had broken in...?
"Search!" Commander Shang shouted coldly. The Imperial Guards dared not disobey and all pointed their knives at Consort Su's room.
At this moment, Consort Su opened the door, having put on her robe. Unexpectedly, Empress Cheng was also there. She was somewhat timid, but forced herself to remain calm and said coldly, "What are you all arguing about? You're giving me a headache and disturbing my peaceful sleep. It's so late, I've already retired for the night. You may all leave."
Empress Cheng saw that she was dressed casually, as if she had just woken up, and had a charming and alluring demeanor, which made her somewhat endearing.
"Consort Su, an assassin has entered the palace. For your safety, let Lord Gao go in and search." The Empress said coldly, "You are dressed so gaudily, what kind of behavior is this?"
"Your Majesty, I have been sleeping and have not seen any assassins. If Your Majesty insists on letting a group of men into my palace to search, then please come in. However... if Your Majesty finds out that a group of men entered the concubine's palace, will Your Majesty and Minister Shang be held responsible afterward? Minister Shang went in and looked at the woman's personal belongings, but couldn't find the assassin. Whose responsibility is that?"
Everyone knows that Consort Su is favored by the Emperor and has enjoyed this favor for a long time. Who would dare to offend Consort Su? The Emperor is extremely petty. Even if he never touches a woman he has been with again, no one is allowed to touch her. Otherwise, who can bear the consequences?
Commander Shang naturally dared not violate such a taboo, as men were not allowed to enter the harem. Therefore, he hesitated and prepared to withdraw his troops.
"Since men can't go in, Granny Xi, you take a few palace maids in to search. I want to see if the assassin is inside," the Empress said coldly.
The more Su Qingqing prevents people from entering, the more likely there is something sinister inside. Also, where are her maids and nannies? They haven't been seen for so long.
Granny Xi had long wanted to help the Empress vent her anger, and naturally she wouldn't let the opportunity slip by. She led her people and rushed inside.
Everything inside was unpredictable. Granny Xi went to look at the bed again, but found nothing unusual on the bed. She even checked under the bed.
Seeing her head towards the side hall, Consort Su called out, "Granny Xi..."
Granny Xi was startled and wanted to scold her for howling like a ghost.
Consort Su added, "No one can hide inside. If you don't believe me, go in and take a look."
Granny Xi indeed lifted the curtain and went inside. It was empty; there was no one there, but there was a stench that made one feel nauseous.
Granny Xi opened the wardrobe, but there was no one inside. However, the clothes inside were scattered all over the wardrobe. With her sharp eyes, she found men's clothes at the very bottom of the wardrobe, including belts, shoes, and socks. Since she didn't see anyone, she didn't dare to make a sound.
She noticed a window was tightly closed, so without thinking, she pushed it open. Granny Xi peeked out and looked around, but it was pitch black outside and there was nothing there.
Just as she stepped back, a lump of white flesh suddenly fell from above the back window of the dormitory. Granny Xi saw that it was a man, and seeing that the man was naked, she screamed in fright, "Ah! An assassin!"
Hearing the scream, Commander Shang led his men in single file. He was stunned to see a naked man curled up in a ball. Was he here to catch an assassin or to catch Consort Su's lover?
Granny Xi glanced at it, then quickly closed her eyes, grabbed the clothes and shoes from the wardrobe and ran out. "What a terrible thing to do! Shameless, immoral! They've taken off their clothes and shoes and wrapped them up in the wardrobe."
The Empress saw Granny Xi cursing as she walked and tried to rush in to see what was happening, but Granny Xi stopped her. "Your Majesty, something terrible has happened! Look at these! Men's clothes! Men's clothes have been found in the Imperial Concubine's wardrobe!"
"How could there be men's clothes?" the Empress asked.
Granny Xi deliberately raised her voice, "This old servant found a naked man in Consort Su's wardrobe! Consort Su has been secretly keeping a man! This is a sin! The Consort has been cheating on her!"
Granny Xi's expression was comical and exaggerated, causing a great stir, and even those outside the Luanfeng Palace were taken aback.
The Empress couldn't believe that a man would be found in Consort Su's palace. She was so shocked that her jaw almost dropped, and she couldn't recover for a long time. What was going on? A man was hidden in Consort Su's palace.
Although the Empress found it strange, seeing that Su Qingqing was about to suffer misfortune, she felt that all the resentment she had accumulated over the years vanished in an instant. She had been bullied and suppressed by Su Qingqing for so many years, and finally, she was getting her just desserts.
She then ordered someone to immediately invite the Emperor over. Caught red-handed, how could Su Qingqing dare to deny it?
What happened just now happened in the blink of an eye. Commander Shang ordered his men to tie the man up and casually tore off a robe to cover him.
Upon seeing this, Consort Su was so frightened that she almost fainted. She pretended to say, "I don't know him at all! You audacious assassin, how dare you break into my bedroom and slander me! Commander Shang, why don't you kill the assassin immediately?"
Given this situation, Commander Shang was unsure whether to treat him as an assassin or as the concubine's lover. Unfortunately, the Empress's men had already blown the matter out of proportion, leaving him no choice but to send someone to summon the Emperor.
