Chapter 106 Zhang Yumo in Danger

Chapter 106 Zhang Yumo in Danger

On the other side, Zhang Yumo came out of Xiangya Building and looked at the pedestrians coming and going on the street and the vendors hawking their wares. She hadn't eaten much today and had been hungry for two days. She felt empty in her stomach, so she took out all the money she had and started buying things along the way.

She only felt better when she could no longer carry any more. Looking at the brightly lit street, the sadness in her heart suddenly disappeared.

Before coming to Xiangyage, Jiang Fenghua took her to Jishantang. She had never known that there was such a shelter in the glamorous and prosperous Shengjing City.

The place was inhabited by children and women, and it was filled with laughter and joy. It was a place that could make people happy. However, Jiang Fenghua told her that everyone living there had their own story. The children were orphans or had been abandoned and were taken in by Jishantang.

Some of the women had suffered inhumane treatment, while others had been played with and abandoned by men. Without men, they were not even considered appendages; they couldn't even survive. Since coming to Jishantang, they have been able to support themselves with their own hands, have a place to shelter from the wind and rain, have friends, and their lives have changed. They no longer live for men.

Jiang Fenghua told her that they didn't live for men, and they lived wonderful lives just the same.

Zhang Yumo wiped away the tears from the corners of her eyes. So much delicious food should be shared with everyone to make it taste better!

As she walked through an alley, she was suddenly surrounded by a group of men. Zhang Yumo trembled with fear. She tried to remain calm and walk away, but the men had malicious smiles on their faces and spoke lewdly, "Little beauty, all alone!"

“Get out of my way, I am the granddaughter of the Duke of Zhang…”

The man laughed, "I'm the emperor's brother, I'm a prince." As he spoke, he started touching her inappropriately.

Zhang Yumo shouted sternly, "How dare you impersonate royalty! This is a capital offense!"

She thought that saying that would scare them away.

Unexpectedly, the angrier she became, the more lewd the men's laughter became.

She threw what she was holding at them and turned to run back, but the other party seemed to have come prepared and had already blocked her way.

"Help……"

"Little beauty, even if you scream your lungs out, no one will come to save you. Today, you'll have some fun with us." The men swore vehemently.

Zhang Yumo had never encountered anything like this before. She was so frightened that she trembled, her face turned pale, she was sweating profusely, and tears streamed down her face. "I really am from the Duke of Zhang's mansion. Please let me go. I will give you money. You can have as much as you want, as long as you let me go."

The men seemed not to hear, grabbed Zhang Yumo and dragged her into the deep alley, trying to tear off her clothes.

She resisted, but no matter how much she shouted, it was to no avail. Suddenly, she pulled out a hairpin and held it to her throat, about to stab herself.

Just then, a pebble struck her wrist, and the hairpin in her hand fell to the ground.

Before anyone could react, a man in blue kicked the men several times, and in a short while, the men were all driven back.

The man's eyes were fierce as he stared at the crowd. He gave the order, "Arrest them all."

In an instant, the men who had attempted to assault Zhang Yumo scattered and tried to escape, but a group of soldiers followed behind the newcomer. They brandished their broadswords, and none of the men dared to move, pleading for mercy, "We were just joking with her, sir, spare our lives."

The man added, "Take them away and punish them severely."

Zhang Yumo was already sobbing uncontrollably. She was squatting in a corner with her arms crossed when the man suddenly reached out his hand to her. "It's alright now."

Zhang Yumo raised her head and stared at the man in front of her and the group of soldiers behind him. She was wary and dared not let him get close.

The man, dressed in a plain blue brocade robe, appeared refined and polite, but exuded a strong aura of menace. He said in a deep voice, "Don't worry, they won't dare to bully you anymore."

Zhang Yumo stood up and said gently, "Thank you."

The man then asked, "Where does the young lady live? I will send someone to escort you home."

Zhang Yumo wanted to say no, but what had just happened was too terrifying. She was terrified; she had almost died and was still shaken. Seeing that the other party was accompanied by soldiers, she figured they must be from the imperial court, so she told him the address.

Upon hearing this, the man said, "You are from the Duke of Zhang's mansion, so why are you here alone?"

"I..." Zhang Yumo hesitated, "I got separated from my maid. Thank you for sending someone to escort me. I will definitely have my grandfather come to thank you after I get back to the manor. May I ask your name, sir?"

The man's gaze was ingratiating. "My name is Li Cheng."

Zhang Yumo did not know the name of the Minister of War's son. She said calmly, "My name is Zhang Yumo. Thank you, Lord Li, for saving my life."

Li Cheng was stunned. "Miss Zhang doesn't recognize me?" She didn't recognize him even after he gave his name, which showed that she didn't care about him.

Zhang Yumo asked, "Should I know you, sir?"

Li Cheng clenched his fingers and said softly, "No, I was just saying. I'll personally escort Miss Zhang back to her residence!"

Seeing that his soldiers had quietly left, Zhang Yumo did not want to return to Xiangya Pavilion and meet Jiang Jinyan.

Just then, Jiang Fenghua and the others rushed over. From afar, she saw Zhang Yumo and a man standing next to her.

She and Lin Yu hurried forward, "Sister Zhang."

"Feng Hua." Zhang Yumo only dared to lower her guard when she saw someone she recognized.

Seeing her disheveled state, Jiang Fenghua asked, "What happened? Your clothes..."

Zhang Yumo quickly replied, "It's nothing. A few men were surrounding me just now, and it was this Lord Li who saved me."

She briefly recounted what had just happened.

At this moment, Jiang Jinyan and Sang Yupianpian also caught up. Zhang Yumo quickly hid behind Jiang Fenghua, not wanting him to see her disheveled appearance.

Her subtle movements caught Li Cheng's eye. He glanced at Jiang Jinyan a few more times, thinking to himself: So this is why Zhang Yumo doesn't want to marry him.

Sang Yu Pianpian also glanced at Li Cheng, a look of doubt flashing in her eyes, "Miss Zhang was almost killed, and Lord Li just happened to encounter the villain?"

Li Cheng said, "I have been in the military for most of the year and have just returned to the capital. I happened to run into a few thugs who were blocking Miss Zhang's way."

Jiang Fenghua then looked at Li Cheng, her eyes cold and full of questions, but she didn't show them. "Thank you, Lord Li, for saving Sister Zhang."

A hint of amazement flashed in Li Cheng's eyes as he stared at Jiang Fenghua, but he quickly concealed it, speaking gently and politely, "You're too kind. It was just a small favor. Punishing evil and promoting good is the responsibility of us soldiers."

Jiang Fenghua quickly gleaned some information: his surname was Li, he was a soldier, and he was often away from the capital, spending most of his time in the military camp.

Could he be the eldest son of Minister Li of the Ministry of War? Jiang Fenghua had no recollection of this person at all. Since her rebirth, many things and people had changed.
