Chapter Fifty-Six: Standing Up for Her

As the sound and shadow landed, a handsome and dashing figure entered the room.

His tall figure cast a long shadow, like a god descending from the heavens. He held a bronze sword, and his iron boots slammed into the ground with a resounding "tap, tap," echoing powerfully.

Everyone was startled and turned to look at the person.

His expression was cold, his eyes dark, and he immediately stood protectively beside Gu Qianluo as soon as he entered the room.

“My lady, don’t be afraid, your husband is here.”

"The appearance of the imperial sword bestowed by the late emperor is as if the late emperor himself were here. Today, I borrow the late emperor's holy grace to save my wife from danger."

When she saw the sword in his hand, the Empress's heart trembled, and she immediately knelt down and bowed, saying, "Long live the late Emperor!"

Seeing the Empress perform the kneeling ceremony, everyone else naturally followed suit and knelt down as well.

"Your Majesty, may I ask what crime my lady has committed that warrants her being taken to the Dali Temple?"

Chen Jinheng slowly walked up to the Empress and questioned her in a cold voice.

"Chen Jinheng, although you have the imperial sword here."

However, Gu Qianluo is now a suspect in the poisoning of the Second Prince, and she must remain at the Dali Temple for investigation until the Second Prince wakes up.

"Oh? My lady has studied medicine since childhood and has never heard of her being skilled in poisons. I wonder why Your Majesty would say such a thing about her?"

Upon hearing this, Princess Zhiya's eyes flashed with jealousy. She approached Chen Jinheng and advised him...

“Cousin Jinheng, you saw it yourself just now, she threw herself on the Second Prince, why are you still speaking up for her now?”

Chen Jinheng's eyes were cool as he turned to Princess Zhiya and reminded her,

"She was only so close to your second brother because she was saving him."

"How could you be so foolish? She's just a woman, how could she possibly know medicine? It's just an excuse to deceive you!"

Upon hearing this, Gu Qianluo's eyes flashed with anger, and she retorted,

“Princess Zhiya, Qianluo has been learning medicine from her maternal grandmother since she was a child. Her Majesty the Empress is also aware of this.”

"Zhiya, there is no doubt that Gu Qianluo is indeed skilled in medicine," the Empress explained softly to her.

Li Zhiya was still persistent. She crossed her arms and looked Gu Qianluo up and down.

"Even if she knows medicine, it doesn't prove that she saved the Second Prince. I have heard that there is a kind of doctor called a poison doctor who is proficient in both poison and medicine, and is extremely rare in the world."

Chen Jinheng stared coldly at Li Zhiya with a deep gaze, and retorted,

"Princess Zhiya, you flatter me. I did indeed save the Second Prince. I can testify to that!"

Gu Qianxue listened quietly to the argument, feeling a pang of pain in her heart.

In her previous life, Chen Jinheng never wanted to say a word for her. What method did Gu Qianluo use?

What could possibly motivate Chen Jinheng to stand up for her like this?

Jealousy welled up in Gu Qianxue's heart, tears welled in her eyes, and she knelt down, begging for forgiveness.

"Your Majesty, the Second Prince has been suffering from an illness since childhood and has not yet regained consciousness."

Please give him justice and do not let the person who poisoned him get away with it.

The Empress raised an eyebrow and said coldly with a mocking tone, "Gu Qianxue, have you forgotten that you yourself are also a suspect?"

Gu Qianxue was startled and immediately knelt down and kowtowed, saying, "Your Majesty, please forgive me! Qianxue had absolutely no intention of harming the Second Prince!"

Qianxue did this only because she hoped her husband would recover from his illness and be safe and sound.

But Gu Qianluo might be a different story. Because of me, she lost the chance to become the Second Prince's concubine, and perhaps out of jealousy and resentment, she would seize the opportunity to harm the Second Prince.

Upon hearing this, Chen Jinheng's eyes blazed with fury. He slammed his fist on the table and roared,

"Gu Qianxue, even if you and Gu Qianluo are not sisters from the same mother, she is still your elder sister. How dare you slander her so maliciously?"

Upon hearing this, tears welled up in Gu Qianxue's eyes and flowed like a river bursting its banks.

“Brother-in-law, you don’t understand my sister. That’s just the kind of person she is. You’re too close to the situation to see things clearly.”

"Sister, since we were little, our grandmother has taught us that it is of utmost importance to know our mistakes and correct them."

If you've done it, just admit it! Her Majesty the Empress knows your hatred stemmed from love, and she will surely forgive you.

Upon hearing this, Gu Qianluo felt a surge of anger within her, but on the surface, she remained calm.

"Gu Qianxue! The truth about who poisoned the Second Prince will soon be revealed!"

"Your Majesty, since both sides have their own reasons, I hope you can give me a chance to prove my innocence."

Empress Chen Jinheng's eyes dimmed, a hint of doubt flashing through her mind.

"Oh? Gu Qianluo, how are you going to prove yourself?"

"When the Second Prince was on the verge of death, I saved him and left me a jade pendant. Jinheng, where is the Second Prince's jade pendant?"

Upon hearing this, everyone's eyes showed surprise.

The Second Prince's jade pendant was a personal treasure, and it would be impossible for him to give it away to someone who wasn't very close to him.

The Empress slowly approached Chen Jinheng, her eyes deep, and said, "General Chen, do you have the Second Prince's jade pendant?"

"Your Majesty, the Second Prince did indeed give my wife a jade pendant. Look, it is this one."

After speaking, Chen Jinheng placed a crystal-clear green jade pendant on the table.

The Empress's gaze deepened as she picked up the jade pendant and examined it for a moment, then said calmly,

“In that case, Gu Qianluo should stay here for now and make a decision after the Second Prince wakes up.”

Chen Jinheng's gaze darkened as he looked at the Second Prince lying on the bed not far away.

"Your Majesty, now that Gu Qianluo's innocence has been proven, why should she continue to stay here? Doesn't Your Majesty know that she still needs to bathe and fast tonight to do her homework?"
