Chapter Five: How many concubines?

Suddenly, a wine glass appeared in Gu Qianluo's hand, her wrist circling around the man's arm.

"Let us not waste this beautiful time and lovely scenery. I wish to grow old with my beloved and never be separated."

After the man finished speaking, he gently raised his wine glass and took a sip. Seeing this, Gu Qianluo also covered her face with her long sleeves and drank her wine, softly replying, "Okay."

After drinking the nuptial wine, the couple had completed their wedding ceremony.

Gu Qianluo understood what needed to be done next, but she was a little nervous, so she started by talking about unrelated topics.

"Qianluo and her husband were originally a family-arranged marriage. No matter what kind of person you are, Qianluo will do her best to fulfill her responsibilities as a wife."

Whether in her career or in her personal life, Qianluo will do her best to serve her husband and fulfill her duties. Please rest assured, husband.

Chen Jinheng lowered his head and listened carefully as Gu Qianlu spoke these cold words in a respectful tone.

Her eyes, which had just been brimming with smiles, suddenly dimmed.

His long, slender, pale fingers gently pinched her chin, and he reminded her in a cold voice,

"Since you wish to be a dutiful wife, why not do so tonight?"

As soon as he finished speaking, Chen Jinheng took Gu Qianluo's fair hand and placed it on his belt.

Gu Qianlu understood the meaning behind Chen Jinheng's words. She closed her eyes tightly and tremblingly tugged at the strings...

Just as the man's belt was almost completely unbuckled, there was a rapid knocking at the door. "Second Young Master! Something terrible has happened! The military rations at the Liangzhou camp have been stolen!"

Gu Qianlu was startled and suddenly opened her eyes, her slender hand falling into empty air.

The man had already turned and walked towards the door. As his figure disappeared, the beaded curtain in the inner room jingled.

"I have some matters to attend to back at the military camp. My wife, please rest early."

Tomorrow I still need to pay my respects to the Marquis and his wife and offer them tea!

As soon as he finished speaking, the man's figure disappeared into the deep darkness of the night, leaving only Gu Qianluo surrounded by flickering candlelight in the room.

Gu Qianlu stood there blankly, staring into the darkness. She touched her neatly combed hair, and a question arose in her mind.

"Is Chen Jinheng really as heartless as people say?"

The next day, as dusk settled over Wumeng, a ray of sunlight shone into the room through the window.

Gu Qianluo slowly woke up from her dream in the warm light. As soon as she opened her eyes, she saw Chen Jinheng leaning against her, flipping through military books.

She rubbed her eyes, vaguely remembering that the man had already left when she lay down last night.

Chen Jinheng nodded slightly, gently stroking Gu Qianluo's hair with his large hand. "Good morning, Madam!"

Gu Qianlu looked at the man in front of her with a puzzled expression, sizing him up and down.

They were dressed neatly, not like they were spending the night outside.

"Husband...Husband? Didn't you go out last night? Was there something important?"

As soon as Gu Qianluo asked the question, Chen Jinheng's eyes lit up, and he responded calmly.

"Don't worry, Madam, it's nothing serious."

"Oh, that's good."

Gu Qianluo threw back the covers, about to get out of bed, when he pressed her back down, laughing wickedly.

"It's only six quarters past dawn, Madam can sleep a little longer."

"No, I am a new bride and I need to go to the main courtyard to serve tea later."

If I neglect this, I will be disgracing my husband."

I heard that in her previous life, Gu Qianxue had a big fight with Chen Jinheng on her wedding night, and the next day, in a fit of pique, she was an hour late in serving tea, which made the Lady of the Marquis sick.

She didn't want to cause trouble for herself right after getting married.

Seeing her so polite, Chen Jinheng's eyes showed a hint of appreciation.

"Madam truly lives up to her reputation as a renowned young lady from the capital; she is virtuous, kind, well-educated, and courteous."

"My husband is too kind. This is just my duty."

"Someone come here! Help the lady to wash and change her clothes."

As soon as Chen Jinheng finished speaking, the group of servants who had served her the night before entered the inner room in an orderly fashion, carrying basins, handkerchiefs, and other toiletries.

Gu Qianluo couldn't refuse, so she slowly got off the bed, while Chen Jinheng went to the next room to wash up.

He has always disliked women getting too close to him, and has always dressed and bathed by himself since childhood.

After Gu Qianluo finished washing up, the maid began to help her change her clothes. Since it was her first time meeting her future in-laws, her clothes needed to be more elegant.

She was dressed in a crimson satin dress with gold phoenix trim, covered with a fox fur shawl, and adorned with a large, colorful, gold-plated hairpin with dragon and phoenix motifs, and pearl and gold-plated long earrings.

After changing her clothes, she stood up happily, twirled in her red dress in front of the bronze mirror, and smiled from ear to ear.

She turned left and right, spinning around and around, admiring her beautiful reflection in the bronze mirror, her heart filled with joy.

After all, in my previous life, I didn't have the leisure to dress up like this in the Second Prince's residence.

The second prince was poisoned by cold, and when his leg ailment flared up, he couldn't even get out of bed. She even had to do things like emptying his chamber pot.

She served the Second Prince like a servant, taking care of his daily needs. If she didn't do a good job, she would be subtly scolded by the nanny.

I'm so lucky to have met a man whose personality is alright.

She thought that it wouldn't be bad if they could treat each other with such respect for each other for the rest of their lives.

Gu Qianluo carefully adjusted her clothes and accessories in front of the bronze mirror, finding no mistakes. Satisfied, she said to the maid,

"Cui'er, give everyone a red envelope."

The servants, upon receiving the red envelopes, all knelt down to express their gratitude.

Chen Jinheng finished tidying up and came in through the door.

She was as happy as a little rabbit, and her eyes showed a hint of joy.

Just as Chen Jinheng walked up behind Gu Qianluo, Xiao Cui was about to announce his arrival.

Then Chen Jinheng put his index finger to his lips, giving the "shush" command, and silently curtsied and stepped aside.
