Chapter Fourteen: Retreating to Advance

Gu Qianluo gathered her long skirt and stood up, a smug smile playing on her lips.

"Say it out first so we can hear it."

Ange scratched his head, raised it, and respectfully bowed to Gu Qianluo with his hands clasped.

"Greetings to Mother!"

Gu Qianluo covered her face with her sleeve and chuckled softly, "What a good child! I hope you will always be as respectful and polite to me as you are today."

Anger nodded vigorously, his eyes shining, and said...

"Don't worry, Mother, I will definitely become a knowledgeable and reasonable person."

"Okay! Wait here for a while, I'll go over and try to persuade your father."

In the pavilion not far away, Chen Jinheng was sitting on a stone chair, arranging a chessboard on a stone table, looking serene.

A warm breeze caressed my face, the shadows of the trees swayed, and the leaves rustled in the breeze.

Gu Qianlu walked gracefully towards Chen Jinheng. Her stunning beauty caught his eye, and Chen Jinheng's eyes lifted, a smile involuntarily playing on his lips.

"Madam, has An'er returned?"

"My lord, I heard from An'er that Miss Lin is very ill. If she doesn't take medicine, she may not live for more than three months."

Why don't you go and see her?

Upon hearing this, the man's eyes lit up, his hand holding the chess piece paused in mid-air, and he smiled faintly.

"These are all Anger's usual tricks! You don't need to take them too seriously."

Gu Qianlu was taken aback; so this man knew all along.

"But I promised Brother An I would come and persuade you."

Chen Jinheng put down the chess piece in his hand, turned to look at her, and asked seriously,

"Does my wife think I should go?"

"As a woman, Qianluo naturally hopes that her husband will only have eyes for her and in his heart."

But as the mistress of the house, Qianluo also had to persuade her husband to go.

In her previous life, Gu Qianxue cared too much about Chen Jinheng and dealt a cruel blow to Lin Ruoyan, which led her to relinquish her position as the matriarch.

For Gu Qianluo, the position of mistress and the power to manage the household were more important than her husband's favor.

Chen Jinheng looked at her in disbelief and suddenly reached out and flicked her forehead.

"Ah!" Gu Qianlu cried out in pain and forcefully shook off the man's hand.

"You silly goose!"

Chen Jinheng left behind a remark filled with anger and walked towards Lingyan Pavilion.

When Ange saw Chen Jinheng walking towards him, he threw himself into his chest.

Chen Jinheng reached out his large hand and lifted Ange onto his back.

Gu Qianlu stared intently at Chen Jinheng and An Ge'er's receding figures, a faint smile playing on her lips.

As night deepened and dark clouds gathered, the crescent moon was shrouded in the inky clouds when a loud "boom" shattered the stillness of the night.

"Miss! Why is it raining when it was perfectly fine!"

Xiao Cui was quick and agile; she took out a paper fan from behind her and held it to Gu Qianluo's head.

Watching Chen Jinheng leave, Gu Qianluo showed no sign of worry. Xiao Cui asked, puzzled,

"Miss, why did you let the young master go! You knew perfectly well that Miss Lin was a woman of pretense, yet you still let him go!"

Upon hearing this, a gentle, bittersweet feeling appeared on Gu Qianluo's face.

"Xiao Cui, you are still young and don't understand matters between men and women."

Sometimes, the feelings between men and women are like sand; the tighter you grasp them, the faster they slip away.

Xiao Cui had a sudden inspiration and exclaimed, "Ah! Miss! I understand! If we spread our hands out and hold the sand flat in our palms, the sand will flow away more slowly."

"This child is teachable!"

"Hehe! Thanks to you, Miss, Cui'er has learned quite a bit from you!"

"Then you must study more in the future. When you come of age, I'll arrange a marriage for you, okay?"

"Miss! Are you already starting to dislike me? Waaah! Cui'er still wants to stay by your side forever!"

The next day, a pale yellow light broke the silence of the night, and the warm light suddenly streamed into the courtyard through the window.

Gu Qianlu struggled to open her heavy eyelids and saw Xiao Cui's round face, leaning against the bedside, staring intently at her.

"Miss! Miss! Wake up! Granny Lu said that Old Madam Chen and Madam Hou are on their way!"

Gu Qianlu's heart sank. She turned her head and finally came to her senses.

"They're coming this way? Cui'er, quick! Help me wash and change!"

Cui'er's eyes sparkled as she picked out the gorgeous clothes and jewelry for Gu Qianluo's homecoming today.

"Miss, what do you think of this combination? If there are no problems, let's get started right away!"

Gu Qianlu glanced at the gold-embroidered double phoenix satin dress in front of her, a satisfied smile appearing on her lips.

"Cui'er understands me best. As expected of the daughter of a senior embroiderer from the embroidery workshop, her taste is first-rate."

"My dear lady, please stop teasing me. Let's start combing your hair!"

Cui'er was like a spinning top, constantly moving around the room.

After half an hour of effort, Gu Qianluo finally finished her makeup and dressing before the old lady and the madam arrived.

"Cui'er, why do you think these two deities visited Luoying Palace so early in the morning?"

Are you coming to scold me?

"Miss, don't worry! I heard that the old lady brought a lot of congratulatory gifts."

"A pile of congratulatory gifts?" Gu Qianlu looked at Xiao Cui in surprise. At this moment, a servant came from outside the door to deliver the message.

"Second Madam! The Old Madam and Madam Hou have arrived. They would like to invite you to the front hall for a chat."

Upon hearing this, Gu Qianluo and Cui'er exchanged a smile.

"Alright! You may serve the old lady and the lady of the house some fragrant tea and pastries first. I'll be right there."

Gu Qianlu carefully examined her appearance in the bronze mirror, when suddenly a flash of inspiration struck her, and she remembered the jewelry that the Lady Hou had given her before.
