Chapter Seven: Sudden Intrusion

Gu Qianluo slowly withdrew from Madam Chen's embrace, and gave a slight curtsy.

"Thank you for remembering Qianluo, Grandmother. Qianluo's maternal grandmother often talks to me about wanting to see you again!"

"Oh dear! How has your grandmother been doing these past few years?"

"Grandma Lao is worried. My maternal grandmother is fine except for her slightly blurry eyes."

"That's good! That's good! When you have some free time, you must bring your grandmother to visit the Marquis's residence!"

"Definitely! Definitely!"

"It seems that Qianluo is very much liked by the Lady of the Marquis!"

Sitting next to Madam Chen, Lady Hou joked with the Marquis.

The Marquis's eyes suddenly lit up. "Has Madam forgotten? Qianluo's maternal grandmother saved Mother's life ten years ago."

"So the person who saved my life ten years ago, as my mother said, was Qianluo's maternal grandmother?"

That's wonderful! Qianluo, from now on, treat this place like your own home! Don't feel uncomfortable!

If Jinheng bullies you, you must tell your mother, and she will stand up for you!

Hearing the words of the Lady of the Marquis, Gu Qianluo couldn't help but feel a little happy.

It seems she finally made the right choice in this marriage.

In her previous life, after marrying the second prince who was neither loved by his father nor his mother, she took care of his daily life day and night. During her honeymoon, she spent her time smelling excrement and urine.

A month later, the Second Prince's health gradually improved. Although he was grateful to her and doted on her, his status was what it was. As soon as he recovered, a group of ministers rushed to send people to him.

Less than six months after their marriage, the second prince had taken eight concubines.

If she showed the slightest displeasure, the Empress would accuse her of being jealous and say that she was unworthy to be the Second Prince's consort.

Hmph! Compared to her husband's family in her previous life, her mother-in-law in this life, Old Madam Chen, is on her side.

She suddenly felt sorry for Gu Qianxue. Such a good mother-in-law, why didn't she cherish her in her previous life?

Upon hearing this, Chen Jinheng raised an eyebrow slightly, leaned down, and softly asked Gu Qianluo beside him,

"Madam, why didn't you tell me about this?"

Gu Qianlu turned slightly and chuckled softly.

“Those are all things of the past. If you would like to hear them, my husband, I will tell you about them when I have some free time.”

Seeing her son and daughter-in-law chatting so well, Lady Hou's eyebrows curved into crescent shapes. She called over the maidservant beside her and gave her instructions.

"Ya Xiang, bring me those two phoenix openwork gold hairpins."

Ya Xiang was the first-class maid of the Marquis's wife, and a second-generation servant born into the Marquis's household. She had served the Marquis's wife since she was a child.

"Madam...that's..."

Those were precious hairpins that even the Lady Hou herself was reluctant to wear!

Lady Hou naturally understood Ya Xiang's meaning, but since she wanted to put on airs and act generous, she couldn't let Ya Xiang say it out loud. She glared at Ya Xiang and rebuked her angrily.

"What are you still standing here for? Get up and go!"

Ya Xiang was startled and quickly stepped back, replying, "Yes! This servant will go and fetch it now."

Upon hearing that Madam Hou was so generous, the two old ladies sitting on the left side of the hall naturally could not be stingy.

He took out a gilded jade disc and pearl hairpin from the mahogany lacquer box beside him, and slowly walked towards Gu Qianluo, saying softly,

"It seems that my sister-in-law really likes this daughter-in-law!"

"Qianluo! Now that you're in charge of the household, you must take good care of your mother-in-law!"

Gu Qianlu gave a slight curtsy, "Qianlu will definitely do it, please rest assured, Madam."

As soon as she finished speaking, a hairpin was placed in her hand. Gu Qianlu was startled and thanked her repeatedly.

Not wanting to lose face, the third old lady slipped a delicate gilt bronze incense box with peony patterns from her sleeve.

"Qianluo! The Third Madam doesn't have any valuable gifts, so she'll give you this sachet!"

Gu Qianlu bowed slightly and took the incense box. "Thank you for your generosity, Third Madam!"

The elderly women gathered together to chat with Gu Qianluo about everyday matters, while Chen Jinheng was pulled aside by the male elders to discuss history and current events.

A moment later, Ya Xiang brought in the gifts from the Lady of the Marquis and gracefully entered through the side door.

He whispered something in Lady Hou's ear, and her face suddenly darkened.

Gu Qianlu glanced at Madam Hou out of the corner of her eye, and a bad feeling arose in her heart.

Suddenly, a child's voice came from outside the door.

"Father! What are you doing here? Didn't you say you were going to take my sister and me horseback riding?"

Upon hearing the sound, everyone turned to look in the direction from which it came.

Following everyone's gaze, Gu Qianluo saw a little boy with big eyes being comforted in Chen Jinheng's arms, and a sense of joy welled up in her heart.

In her previous life, after marrying the second prince, she longed to have a child but was unable to conceive for a long time.

She finally became pregnant, but the second prince's favorite concubine secretly sent someone to give her an abortifacient.

He knew it in his heart, yet he allowed the favored concubine to bully her, causing her to lose her own flesh and blood.

I heard that five years ago, Chen Jinheng brought back a two-year-old girl and a newborn boy from the battlefield.

This must be the little boy in front of me, right?

Gu Qianlu couldn't help but touch her chest, a piercing pain spreading through her. She thought to herself, if her child could survive, he would surely be just as adorable as this little boy.

Before she could even react, Chen Jinheng had already brought the little boy to her and gently put him down.

"Ang'er, quickly greet your mother! From now on, you'll be registered under her name!"

Gu Qianlu was startled. She lowered her eyes to look at the little boy, a faint light flashing in her eyes, and a sense of anticipation in her heart.

Not just her, but everyone in the room seemed to be waiting for the little boy's reaction.
