Chapter Six: The Bride Serves Tea

"What are the concubines like? If we can find out in advance, we will surely be able to get along better with our sisters in the future."

Chen Jinheng remained silent, his eyes darting around nervously, looking guilty. Gu Qianlu stared at him and couldn't help but laugh.

"It seems my husband is quite lucky with women!"

Chen Jinheng felt somewhat displeased as she saw her making fun of him.

As the second son of a distinguished family, it's perfectly reasonable for him to have many concubines.

But why did he feel a little guilty when Gu Qianluo asked him about matters concerning the inner quarters?

However, Chen Jinheng glanced at Gu Qianluo, his eyes suddenly dimmed, and he felt a little annoyed.

This woman doesn't care about him.

"There are currently two concubines in the inner quarters: Aunt Xu, the niece sent by the Third Madam, and Aunt Zhu, the distant cousin sent by my sister-in-law."

Upon hearing this, a hint of surprise appeared in Gu Qianluo's eyes.

The concubines in Chen Jinheng's house were from both the Third Old Madam's family and the Eldest Sister-in-law's family.

It seems that Aunt Xu and Aunt Zhu are the spies that the Third Madam and her sister-in-law planted around Gu Qianluo!

No wonder Gu Qianxue capsized in the gutter in her previous life.

Presumably, she must have failed to manage her relationship with these two concubines, which is why she was constrained and encountered obstacles at every turn.

"Xiao Cui, prepare two large purses for me. I'll send them to Aunt Xu and Aunt Zhu later."

"Yes, Miss!"

"Madam, why are you so polite? I have no marital relationship with them."

Upon hearing this, Gu Qianlu felt a chill run through her heart. This man was so heartless that he wouldn't even be close to the concubine sent by his elders.

So how much of a place could she, a woman who had no connection with him, hold in his heart?

"Isn't my husband slapping the elders in the face by doing this?"

"Hehe, it's precisely because they were spies sent to my room by my elders that I've never gotten close to them. Madam's actions have only given them unnecessary expectations."

"Although my husband says so, I am, after all, the mistress of the house. It is only right and proper for me to be on good terms with them so that the household can be more stable in the future."

"It is Madam's decision," Chen Jinheng replied coldly, his gaze indifferent.

Gu Qianluo, having received his affirmation, smiled slightly in return, took out two lotus-patterned red envelopes from her jewelry box, and handed them to Xiao Cui.

Chen Jinheng couldn't help but look at the composed woman in front of him, and a sudden displeasure welled up inside him.

It is often said that women in the inner quarters fight tooth and nail for their husbands' favor.

Why is it that when it comes to Gu Qianluo, she's the first one thinking about getting along with the concubines?

Concealing the disappointment in his eyes, Chen Jinheng raised his large hand and firmly grasped Gu Qianluo's slender hand, pulling her towards the door.

"Madam, it's getting late, let's set off."

Gu Qianlu was suddenly pulled forward by the man, lost her balance, and almost fell over.

Upon seeing this, Chen Jinheng's eyes flashed, and he quickly reached out to hook Gu Qianluo's waist and gently help her up.

Chen Jinheng looked at her coldly, as if she were a stranger, and asked in a chilling tone, "Are you alright?"

Gu Qianlu couldn't guess why the man's attitude had suddenly turned cold, so she calmly replied, "It's nothing."

"It's good that you're alright. Let's go!"

Gu Qianlu was considered tall among the women, but Chen Jinheng was two heads taller than her.

He walked quickly, and Gu Qianluo seemed to be chasing after him the whole time.

Gu Qianlu couldn't help but curse inwardly, "That jerk, why is he walking so fast? He really doesn't know how to be gentle with women. Humph!"

Upon arriving at the main courtyard, the gatekeeper stepped forward to greet them, "Second Young Master, Second Madam, you've finally arrived!"

The old lady, the marquis, and the marquis's wife have just arrived. Please wait a moment while I go in and inform them.”

Upon hearing this, Gu Qianluo took out two taels of silver from her sleeve and handed it to the servant, saying, "Thank you for your trouble, sir!"

A moment later, the gatekeeper came out of the courtyard and said, "Second Young Master, Second Madam, the Old Madam invites you in."

After the servant finished speaking, he waved to several maids not far away.

A moment later, several maids carrying teacups slowly walked up behind Gu Qianluo.

Chen Jinheng looked at Gu Qianluo carefully, took her hand, and said gently, "Let's go!"

Seeing the cold sweat on her palms, Chen Jinheng coldly reminded her, "Madam, don't be nervous. Apart from the Marquis and his wife, the others inside are just empty shells."

By the way, my grandmother rarely smiles; she looks quite fierce, so please don't let her scare you.

Upon hearing this, Gu Qianluo chuckled softly, "Thank you for reassuring me, my husband."

Seeing her smile at him, Chen Jinheng's gloomy heart relaxed, his lips curled up, and he felt boundless joy.

Upon entering the inner hall, Gu Qianluo saw an elderly lady dressed in a golden yellow gown sitting in the main seat.

Her hair and beard were all white, and her face was crisscrossed with wrinkles, but her eyes were bright and piercing. She was dignified, wealthy, and had a kind face.

"Jinheng and his bride pay their respects to their grandmother, father, and mother! Second Master, Second Madam, Third Master, and Third Madam!"

Gu Qianlu looked in the direction of the voice and saw a slightly older man with broad shoulders and an imposing presence to the left of the main seat. This must be the Marquis of Loyalty and Valor.

Two middle-aged men dressed in fine clothes sat on the lower left of the main seat. One had lost his left hand, and the other had lost his right foot. They were the Second Master and the Third Master, respectively.

When the second and third masters were young, they went to the battlefield with the Marquis of Loyalty and Courage and were left with many wounds. The Marquis of Loyalty and Courage, mindful of their brotherly bond, spent money to build two courtyards in the Marquis's mansion so that the two of them could live out their old age in peace.

To the right of the main seat sat the elegant and graceful Lady Hou, dressed in a light orange long dress adorned with jade and flowers. She smiled charmingly as she looked at Gu Qianluo, her beauty exquisite.
