Chapter Three: Welcoming and Sending Off the Bride

Time flies, and today is the joyous day of the marriage alliance between the Gu family, the Marquis of Zhongyong's mansion, and the Second Prince.

Because the two sisters were getting married on the same day, and fearing it would bring bad luck, the three families agreed that Gu Qianluo would get married at Chenshi (7-9 AM) and Gu Qianxue at Shenshi (3-5 PM).

On this day, the old lady of the Gu family got up early and came to Gu Qianluo's bedroom, Mingyu Pavilion, dressed in gorgeous clothes.

As soon as she entered, she saw Granny Qi holding two thin threads and opening her face.

"Oh, look at our Luo-jie's exquisitely beautiful face! I'm afraid you won't find anyone as delicate as you in the capital."

Upon hearing the familiar voice, Gu Qianluo quickly turned her head to look behind her.

Seeing the kind-faced old lady walking briskly towards her, she slightly rose and bowed.

"Qianlu greets Grandmother. Thank you for the compliment. I am nowhere near as beautiful as my younger sister."

"Look how modest you are, sit down. Let Grandma comb your hair."

"Thank you for your trouble, Grandmother!"

Gu Qianluo obediently sat down, a surge of joy welling up inside her.

Old Madam Gu stared intently at Gu Qianluo, who was adorned with a phoenix coronet and wedding gown. Her eyes lit up with joy, and a gentle smile curved her lips.

"One comb to the end, two combs to white hair and eyebrows, three combs to a house full of children and grandchildren. Grandmother wishes you and your husband to be forever united in heart and grow old together!"

"Thank you, Grandma."

After the three combing rituals were completed, Old Madam Gu pulled Gu Qianluo into her arms and gave her earnest instructions.

"Our Sister Luo has been well-mannered and peaceful since childhood."

But if you become the mistress of the house in the future, you can't be so kind anymore!

Upon hearing this, Gu Qianluo's eyes softened, and she gently agreed.

"Grandmother, rest assured, Qianlu will always remember your teachings. I will not be able to fulfill my filial duties to you in the future, so please take good care of yourself!"

"Okay! Grandmother will take good care of herself and wait for you and Xue'er to give birth to two big, fat grandsons so I can hold them."

Gu Qianluo listened and simply nodded slightly with a faint smile.

Suddenly, the voice of the old servant of the Gu family came from outside the door, urging them on.

"Young Miss, Butler Fang said that the people from the Marquis of Zhongyong's mansion have already arrived at the gate and are waiting to pick up the bride!"

Upon hearing this, Old Madam Gu quickly straightened Gu Qianluo's clothes and instructed the servants beside her.

"Quick! Call Brother Jun over, don't miss this auspicious time!"

"Don't worry, Madam. I've already informed the eldest young master's servant. He should be on his way now."

Gu Zijun and Gu Qianluo are siblings. After their stepmother passed away, the two siblings depended on each other for survival in the Gu family.

Ever since Gu Cixiu married his stepmother, Madam Lu, the two siblings were often secretly bullied by their stepmother's two children. Gu Zijun doted on his younger sister.

When he arrived at the door, Gu Zijun stood quietly for a while before slowly walking in.

Hearing footsteps, Gu Qianluo happily lifted her red veil and smiled at the person who approached.

"Brother, you're here?"

"Um."

"From now on, your younger sister won't be able to stay by your side as often! You must be careful while you're alone in the manor, lest you be bullied!"

Gu Zijun took the red veil from the maid's hand and gently placed it on her head.

"My dear sister! Don't meddle in my affairs!"

Your husband has been waiting outside for almost an hour, come up quickly!

Upon hearing this, Gu Qianluo looked up in surprise, and the red veil slipped back as she looked up.

She had no choice but to hold onto one side with each hand, and said...

"He actually came to fetch the bride in person?"

Gu Zijun scratched his head, not understanding why Gu Qianluo was so surprised, and said angrily with a sullen face,

"Hmph! I won't marry my sister to him unless he comes in person!"

My younger sister is very talented and beautiful; she could easily be chosen as a concubine in the palace.

"Stop fooling around!"

Gu Qianlu pursed her lips, covered her face and chuckled softly. Her brother's protection made her feel more gratified.

Upon hearing that the groom would personally pick up the bride, Gu Qianlu felt a surge of joy.

In their previous lives, neither of the two sisters had a groom to fetch them when they got married.

She never expected that her husband in this life would be able to give her such a respectable life.

Gu Zijun slowly squatted down in front of her. Gu Qianluo adjusted her red dress, carefully stood up, and leaned against his back.

"Sister, are you really going to marry the second young master of the Marquis of Zhongyong's mansion? He's notoriously heartless and ungrateful in the capital!"

"Hmm," Gu Qianluo responded only faintly.

Actually, she was only willing to marry the second young master because he was heartless and ungrateful.

Their marriage was arranged, so naturally there was no affection between them.

Gu Qianluo disliked Chen Jinheng, the second young master of the Marquis of Zhongyong's mansion. With a house full of stunningly beautiful concubines, he naturally wouldn't like someone as gentle and demure as her.

After marrying into the Marquis's mansion, all she wanted was to quietly be the mistress of the house.

If the concubines are vying for the emperor's favor, let them.

Having been given a second chance at life, she's not going to fight or compete; that's too exhausting!

All she wanted to do was focus on her career and make money; she didn't care about anything else.

As long as one doesn't marry the second prince and repeat the tragedy of the previous life, it doesn't matter who one marries.

Gu Zijun carried Gu Qianlu on his back and walked steadily to the main gate of the Gu family mansion, nodding and greeting each of the nobles who came to welcome the bride.

As the bride walked out of the Gu family mansion, the matchmaker waved the red handkerchief in her hand and shouted, "The bride is here! Time to escort her to the bridal sedan chair!"

Gu Qianlu bowed slightly and slowly stepped into the wedding sedan chair.

Gu Zijun's eyes reddened slightly as he bowed respectfully to the groom riding a white horse before him.

"Brother-in-law, I'll be counting on you to take care of my sister from now on."
