Chapter Thirty-Five: The First Argument

"If you like, I'll ask Sister Cui'er to pack some for you so your little brother can have a taste too."

Upon hearing this, Ping'er grasped her hands with both of them, beaming with joy, and said, "Thank you, Mistress! My brother will definitely like it."

"Your mother is still recuperating at Jing'an Temple. You and your younger brother are at Lingyan Pavilion. You must listen to the nanny, understand?"

Ping'er nodded obediently and replied, "Okay!"

After saying that, she picked up a taro cake from the table and put it in her mouth. After enjoying it, she wiped the crumbs from her mouth and said with a piercing gaze,

"Madam, may we begin learning to write?"

"Alright, wash your hands and come with me."

Gu Qianluo picked up the Classic of Filial Piety from her desk and walked unhurriedly toward the study next door.

"Cui'er, help Ping'er grind the ink."

"Yes, Miss."

After washing her hands, Ping'er went to the study and sat down at her desk.

On the table lay a copy of the *Classic of Filial Piety* in calligraphy. Ping'er curiously reached out and touched each character, murmuring softly,

"This is the character for 'virtue,' this is the character for 'the Way,' this is 'propriety,' and this is..."

"This is the character for 'filial piety,' the 'filial' in 'obedience.' The ancients said, 'Filial piety is the root of virtue, the source of all teachings.' This means that filial piety is the foundation of morality, it is..."

In just one hour, Gu Qianluo taught Ping'er a lot of knowledge and also taught her to recognize many characters.

As night fell and the sun slowly set, the light outside gradually dimmed.

Chen Jinheng rushed back to Luoying Palace from the Upper Courtyard, only to find the room empty, which made him feel a little disappointed.

When the maid noticed his return, she tiptoed forward and curtsied, "This humble servant greets the Second Young Master. The kitchen said they have prepared dinner. Shall we serve it?"

Chen Jinheng had no time to worry about dinner; all he wanted was to find Gu Qianluo and confront her.

"Where is Madam? Why isn't she inside?"

"Reporting to the Second Young Master, Madam and Miss Ping'er are in the study next door!"

"study?"

Chen Jinheng suddenly stopped in his tracks, unable to help but recall the whispered conversation between Ping'er and Gu Qianluo at noon.

"Did the lady invite the tutor over?"

"No, it was Madam who personally taught Miss Ping'er. Madam also said that if the Second Young Master returns, you should not go over there first, so as not to disturb Miss Ping'er's studies."

Chen Jinheng frowned, his hands unconsciously clenching at his sides, and said coldly,

"Ha, she's getting bolder and bolder? Now she even dares to order her husband around?"

Upon hearing this, the maid knew that Chen Jinheng was furious and thought to herself that Gu Qianlu was going to suffer a setback this time.

However, Chen Jinheng did not get angry as the maid had imagined. Instead, he went back to the bathroom to change his clothes.

Before leaving, he specifically instructed the maid, saying,

"Go and get back to work. Don't tell Madam that I've returned."

The maid was so shocked that her jaw almost dropped.

Everyone knows that the Second Young Master has always been arrogant and self-centered, yet Gu Qianluo managed to make him back down for her the moment she entered the room.

"This second madam is really something. Even the master can't control the second young master, but she's managed to keep him in check."

"Oh dear, you don't understand, this is called being afraid of one's wife!"

Xiao Cui had just returned from the study when she saw this scene and quickly went back to the study to inform Gu Qianluo.

"Madam, Madam! The Second Young Master is back!"

Upon hearing this, Ping'er's pen slipped from her hand, and she exclaimed in surprise.

"Oh no! Father's back? I'd better hurry! Take care, Mistress!"

"Ping'er! You haven't taken your dessert yet!"

Before Gu Qianlu could stop her, Ping'er had already run out of the house and disappeared from sight.

Gu Qianluo sighed heavily, picked up a food box from the round wooden table, and gave the instructions.

"Cui'er, take this to Lingyan Pavilion for Miss Ping'er."

"Yes, ma'am. Cui'er will be right back. Miss, have you figured out how to deal with the young master?"

"I've already thought it through. Go! And come back quickly!"

Gu Qianlu raised her eyebrows slightly, and a beautiful smile appeared on her lips.

Looking at the desk stained with ink, Gu Qianluo took a piece of linen cloth and carefully wiped it clean.

Suddenly, a familiar voice sounded from behind, "I didn't know my wife was so knowledgeable? Helping Ping'er deceive me? Hmm?"

Before she could turn around, the man's rough hand grabbed her small hand, forcing her against the wall, and he said angrily,

"Madam, did you just teach Ping'er to write?"

"My husband, please let me explain."

"The evidence is conclusive, what else is there to explain?"

After saying that, he picked up a stack of Xuan paper from the table and waved it in front of Gu Qianluo.

"Ping'er is smart and eager to learn. If she studies hard, she will be a great talent in the future."

"Nonsense! A woman's virtue lies in her lack of talent, while her talent is a curse!"

My Ping'er doesn't need to know so much. All she needs to do in the future is be a virtuous and obedient woman who is good to her husband.

Gu Qianluo! You'll ruin her life like this!

Hearing this, Gu Qianlu felt a surge of anger. She hadn't expected Chen Jinheng to be such a stubborn person. She said indignantly,

"Chen Jinheng! You old stubborn man! You're so old-fashioned and inflexible! You don't understand Ping'er at all!"

Upon hearing this, Chen Jinheng's forehead veins bulged, his eyes blazing with anger. He clenched his fists tightly, looked down at Gu Qianluo, and angrily asked,

"You...you said I'm old?"

What? Why is Chen Jinheng's thought process so unpredictable?

Gu Qianluo was furious. She pushed away the man who was pressing down on her and said sharply,

“Chen Jinheng, what I mean is that you are inflexible and stubborn.”

"I don't know how to be flexible? Ha! Gu Qianluo, what do you know?"
