Chapter Sixty-Four: Transfer of Account Books

The mighty expeditionary force, like a giant dragon, marched along the main street toward the city gate.

The family members who came to see them off followed the procession with reluctance until they reached the city gate before dispersing.

Just as Gu Qianluo was about to turn back to the carriage, an old woman's voice came from not far away.

"Sister Luo! Wait for me!" Hearing someone call her, she turned around and looked in the direction of the voice.

When the familiar figure stepped forward, she smiled sweetly and greeted him politely.

"Greetings, Second Madam! You've come to see off the Third Young Master, haven't you?"

The two old ladies were taken aback, Chen Jinheng's image flashed in their eyes, and they said softly,

"What are you saying, Luo-jie? I've practically raised Heng-ge'er myself. I'm not only here to see Cheng-ge'er off, but also to bring the Lady of the Marquis's blessings to Heng-ge'er."

"It's just that my Cheng-ge'er has been spoiled since he was little, and I always feel heavy-hearted about it. I'm afraid he won't be able to endure the hardships of the military camp, and that he won't be able to achieve anything, thus dragging Heng-ge'er down with him. Sigh."

Upon hearing this, Gu Qianluo's brows relaxed, and she immediately understood the meaning behind the two old ladies' words. She gently comforted them,

"Grandma, please don't worry."

Jinheng once told me that although the Third Young Master was going to the battlefield for the first time, his horsemanship and archery skills were superb, surpassing most of the new recruits. If he could work harder, promotion shouldn't be a problem.

Upon hearing Gu Qianluo's words, the two old ladies' eyes lit up, and they grabbed Gu Qianluo's hand, expressing their gratitude.

"Oh, after hearing what Sister Luo said, the weight that has been on my heart has finally been lifted."

At this moment, a middle-aged man dressed in black slowly walked to Gu Qianluo's side, cupped his hands in greeting, and said...

"This humble servant greets the Second Madam and Second Lady."

Hearing the voice, Gu Qianlu turned her head and saw that the person who came was Wang Qi, the general manager of miscellaneous affairs by the side of the old lady of the Marquis's mansion. She asked in surprise,

"Steward Wang, does the old lady need to see me?"

"Indeed, I have come to find the Second Madam at the request of the Old Madam."

The two old ladies raised an eyebrow, noticing Wang Qi's anxious expression, and tactfully spoke up.

"Luo'er, since the old lady is so anxious to find you, then don't delay, go quickly!"

After saying this, the two old ladies, supported by their maids, carried Gu Qianlu away.

Gu Qianlu raised an eyebrow, her brow furrowing as she watched the two old ladies stagger and walk unsteadily. She then gave an order to the servant beside her.

"Go! Invite the two old ladies into the carriage."

"yes!"

"Oh my, Sister Luo is so thoughtful, she even came all the way to pick me up."

"Heng-ge'er is truly blessed to have married such a considerate wife like you."

"You flatter me, madam. We are all on the same path, how could a junior like us not care about you?"

A moment later, the carriage of the Marquis's residence stopped at the gate of the Marquis's residence.

Since the old lady's residence was in a different direction from the second old master's residence, Gu Qianlu got out of the car first and gave instructions.

"Second Madam, Luo'er has left first. Master Liu, Second Madam has difficulty walking, please remember to take her back to the courtyard."

The driver, Liu Yong, loudly replied, "Don't worry, Madam, I will definitely get you both back to your residence safely!"

After saying that, Gu Qianlu arrived at the old lady's courtyard, led by Butler Wang.

As soon as the figure reached the gate, the old lady's scolding voice came from inside.

“Zhang Shi, since you are too busy, you should hand over the affairs of the Marquis’s mansion to Luo’er as soon as possible!”

Look at the accounts your subordinates have done; they're a complete mess. Which one is innocent?

If this continues, the Marquis's mansion's finances will become murky and unreliable!

"Please forgive me, Madam. Perhaps I was preoccupied with my husband these past few days and neglected these tasks, which allowed the servants to take advantage of the situation."

"Hmph! You know perfectly well what you've done. From today onwards, these account books will be transferred to Luo-jie."

Madam Zhang was startled, fear appearing in her eyes. She exclaimed in surprise, "Grandma, most of the assets in these ledgers belong to the eldest son. Isn't it inappropriate to let Luo'er manage them?"

“What’s inappropriate about it? I think it’s best to let her handle this.”

Originally, I disagreed with the Marquis's offer to manage your own property. See, now look what a mess this has become!

The old lady sighed indignantly, her eyes full of worry, "This Marquis's estate was earned by the old Marquis through his own hard work. If we don't keep a close eye on it, these people will squander it all!"

Upon hearing this, Gu Qianluo tiptoed in and slowly walked in. "Luo'er greets the old lady and sister-in-law!"

Upon hearing the voice, Zhang's eyes narrowed, and she turned to look at the person who had come. Her grip on the account book tightened unconsciously.

It seems that the old lady has made up her mind to relinquish her control over the household.

As Gu Qianluo approached, the old lady's eyes lit up with joy. "Luo'er, you're here! Come here quickly!"

After saying this, the old lady placed the account book in her hand and instructed her.

"Luo-jie, since you have some free time today, take a close look at these two ledgers and see if there are any discrepancies in the income and expenditure records."

Gu Qianluo's brow twitched. She took the ledger with both hands, carefully flipped through a few pages, and when she saw the obvious smear marks, she already knew what was going on.

"Don't worry, Madam. Even if I don't eat or sleep today, I will definitely find the mistake in this account."

Upon hearing this, Zhang frowned and quickly advised, "Second sister-in-law, as the saying goes, food is the foundation of life. Even the ox that plows the fields needs to eat grass. You may be busy, but you still need to eat."

After saying this, he gave a signal to the maids and servants beside him, and angrily gave the order.

"Didn't you see that the Second Madam is staying overnight in the Old Madam's room? Hurry up and prepare a meal."

Gu Qianlu's eyes flickered, a hint of apprehension arising in her heart. She looked at Zhang Shi and spoke softly.
