Chapter 105 The Jiang Family

The "courtyard" they referred to was Gu Qinlan's residence. Everyone in the Duan Prince's mansion knew how well Gu Qinlan treated her servants.

Even Xiao Han, the previously unknown maidservant, has undergone a complete transformation in just a short time since she stepped into Gu Qinlan's residence. It's clear at a glance that the girl's life is much better than before.

Although the servants in the mansion didn't say it aloud, they all envied Xiaohan's good fortune.

If they had known they would have such an opportunity, they should have seized it and desperately tried to curry favor with the lady.

It's too late to regret it now.

As the two servants were whispering amongst themselves, the door suddenly burst open, and Li Dong, his face covered and head tucked in, rushed out of the room and quickly closed the door.

"Sister Lidong, are you alright?"

Two servants ran up, locking the door as they asked Lidong with concern.

Li Dong simply covered her face, shook her head slightly, lowered her head without saying a word, and left.

"Sigh, Sister Lidong is so pitiful."

"That's right, the young lady's temperament is indeed becoming increasingly eccentric."

"However, I always felt that Sister Lidong seemed a little off."

Something's not right.

"I can't quite put my finger on it, but I just felt there was something strange about her that was hard to put into words."

Gu Qinlan stood patiently inside the vermilion gate, time seemingly standing still. Finally, she heard a servant announce softly, "Madam, your uncle and his family have arrived."

She hurried out, and just as she stepped out the door, she caught a glimpse of Jiang Wenyuan carefully helping a woman who looked slightly haggard get out of the car.

Gu Qinlan nimbly jogged forward, affectionately grasped the woman's other arm, and softly advised, "Aunt, please be careful as you walk."

After Yao Shi put her feet on the ground, Gu Qinlan quickly bowed and said, "Your niece Qinlan welcomes your uncle and aunt."

Madam Yao hurriedly helped her up, saying gently, "Good child, no need for formalities. Let me take a good look at you. Your uncle once said that you and your mother look quite alike..."

Yao held her hand, examining it closely, tears streaming down her face.

"They are indeed similar; you and your daughter are as if you were made from the same mold."

Yao had a deep affection for Gu Qinlan's mother, Jiang Wenshu. Jiang Wenshu's mother died early, and Jiang Wenshu was still young when Yao married into the Jiang family.

As the saying goes, an elder sister-in-law is like a mother. Yao's care for Jiang Wenshu was that of both a younger sister and a daughter. The bond between the two sisters-in-law was exceptionally strong.

I remember that when Jiang Wenshu died in childbirth, Yao was unable to come in person. She was heartbroken and bedridden.

Gu Qinlan's eyes reddened as she tightly grasped Yao's hands: "Aunt, why are you so thin? You've suffered so much on this journey."

She clearly remembered that in her previous life, she first met Yao two years later, when Yao's condition was even worse than it was now.

However, that was something that happened more than a decade ago in my previous life.

Gu Qinlan's last impression of Yao was from a little over a year before Yao's death in her previous life. At that time, although Yao was old and her appearance was aging, she was still plump.

Now, Yao has just recovered from her illness and has traveled a long distance for many days. She looks extremely tired and is very different from her memories of her previous life.

Madam Yao had never given birth to a daughter, and the striking resemblance between Gu Qinlan and her mother led her to a strange illusion, as if her sister-in-law had returned to her side. Overwhelmed with emotion, tears streamed down her face.

Xiao Han, who was standing by, gently reminded her, "Madam, your aunt must be exhausted from her long journey. Let's go inside and rest first, and then we can talk in detail later."

Gu Qinlan nodded in agreement: "That's right, that's right. Let's go inside first, have a meal, and then talk."

The group hurriedly entered the mansion, and Gu Qinlan led them directly to the dining hall.

As soon as one steps into the dining room, a well-ordered scene comes into view. Fuyu is there with several maids, each carrying a tray full of toiletries, waiting for her.

Gu Qinlan gently scolded, "Didn't I tell you to rest? Why are you running around doing chores again?"

Fuyu playfully stuck out her tongue and replied, "I'm really worried that if I'm idle, the others won't be able to keep up. Please don't worry, Miss. I'm just giving some instructions here, and I promise I won't tire myself out."

Gu Qinlan knew her personality well, so she could only pretend to be angry and give her a sidelong glance: "Go and rest, don't keep busy."

Fuyu said with a hint of helplessness, "Then this servant will first pay her respects to my uncle and his wife before leaving."

After speaking, she walked up to Jiang Wenyuan and his wife, bowed respectfully, and said softly, "This servant, Fuyu, greets my uncle and his wife."

The Jiang couple quickly got up to help each other.

Gu Qinlan smiled and introduced them: "This is my head maid, Fuyu. She grew up with me since childhood. Although she is young, she is very thoughtful and more considerate than many elders. Today, she was worried that I would be tired, so she came out to help despite her own injuries."

Upon hearing this, everyone burst into laughter, while Fuyu pouted shyly.

However, she did not insist on staying. After the maids had helped the Jiang family members wash their faces and hands, she led everyone away quietly.

Gu Qinlan personally helped Yao Shi to her seat at the dining table and invited the other members of the Jiang family to take their seats in turn.

"Time is short tonight, so I have only prepared these dishes. Please enjoy them for now. If there is anything that does not suit your taste, please let me know and I will take note."

Overwhelmed with warmth, Madam Yao grasped Gu Qinlan's hands and said, "Such delicious food, if it's still not to your liking, then wouldn't you have to eat dragon liver and phoenix marrow?"
