Chapter 117 Zhao Taishi's Daughter

Yesterday's confrontation left a shadow over her mind.

She knew the Third Prince's character well; if he knew she had revealed the secret of Madam Luo's child's parentage, he would not let her off easily.

Although Luo's mother might not take such action, Gu Qinlan was unwilling to hand over her fate to others.

Since Heaven has granted her a second chance at life, she will never allow herself to perish easily.

Therefore, she must quickly increase her strength!

She couldn't possibly stand up to the Third Prince on her own.

However, it was a wise choice for her to leverage the power of the Third Prince's most formidable adversary and turn him into her solid support.

If she could defeat the Third Prince, she could live in peace without any worries.

However, if she wants others to deliberately protect her, she must possess sufficient value. Otherwise, why would anyone bother to protect her?

Gu Qinlan was a person who was good at planning ahead. Having already made up her mind, she did not delay. After the meal, she immediately sent someone to inform Princess Duan.

When Princess Duan learned of the news, she was guarding Zheng Huiyi's bedside.

Zheng Huiyi has regained consciousness, eaten and taken medication, but she is still in low spirits.

Upon hearing that Gu Qinlan had returned to the city with her entourage, Princess Duan was immediately displeased: "Did she leave in such a hurry because she was afraid I would come to settle scores with her? I trusted her so much before, entrusting the entire Duan Prince's Mansion to her management, and yet she allowed my daughter to be bullied like this!"

"Someone, go and tell her that she can't go anywhere until Huiyi recovers; she must stay here to take care of Huiyi!"

The maidservant beside Princess Duan was about to go out to convey the order, but Zheng Huiyi hurriedly stopped her: "Wait."

"My dear Huiyi, what's wrong? Are you feeling unwell again?"

Princess Duan's expression changed drastically in an instant, her heart filled with panic. Zheng Huiyi was her youngest daughter, whom she had always doted on. Her sons, on the other hand, had been away on military campaigns since childhood, becoming estranged from her. After reaching adulthood, they were sent to guard the frontier. It could be said that over the long years, she and Zheng Huiyi had relied on each other for survival, weathering storms together.

Therefore, in Princess Duan's heart, Zheng Huiyi's importance was naturally unparalleled. Otherwise, when Zheng Huiyi nearly brought down the Duan Prince's mansion, she never severely reprimanded her daughter in the slightest.

Zheng Huiyi shook her head weakly, her voice faint: "Mother, I am fine. If Madam Gu wants to return to the manor, let her come back. There are many trivial matters in the manor, let her handle them. With you by my side, I am content."

Upon hearing this, Princess Duan's expression froze: "How do you address her?"

Slightly embarrassed, Zheng Huiyi gently turned her head to the side: "She is, after all, the rightful wife whom Third Brother married through proper channels. For Third Brother's sake, I should call her sister-in-law."

Although she still harbored little affection for Gu Qinlan deep down, she was not unaware of good intentions.

Her recent experiences have led to a complete transformation in her.

She had given up all hope and was prepared to die to prove her innocence, but unexpectedly, a glimmer of hope appeared.

She knew all too well the cruelty and ruthlessness of Luo's mother and her gang.

However, Gu Qinlan went to great lengths to personally plan her rescue. How could she remain unmoved by such a great favor?

"Mother, please send someone to tell my sister-in-law and ask her to do everything she can to help me rescue someone."

...

When the wet nurse from Princess Duan's side rushed over, Gu Qinlan had already boarded the carriage and was ready to depart.

Gu Qinlan was quite surprised to hear that Zheng Huiyi had actually asked her for help.

She did not refuse Zheng Huiyi's request, but calmly replied, "Go back and tell her that I will do my best to let her rest and recuperate in peace."

"All of you must keep your mouths shut. If even the slightest word leaks out, don't blame me for turning ruthless!"

She had gone through numerous dangers to rescue Zheng Huiyi, and she was determined not to fail at the last moment.

The wet nurse hurriedly agreed: "This old servant will certainly obey your command and will keep the secret strictly and not reveal a single word."

Gu Qinlan did not have much trust in the servants of the Zheng family. After all, how loyal could those who dared to deceive their superiors and subordinates be to their masters?

Therefore, she must plan ahead and devise various coping strategies in advance to avoid being caught off guard when the time comes.

After Gu Qinlan led her people back to the city, she immediately sent Hongye out to gather information. Fortunately, no rumors that were detrimental to the Duan Prince's Mansion were spread.

After feeling a little relieved, Gu Qinlan wrote a letter and sent it to Jin Tianming.

The following morning, Gu Qinlan received a reply from Jin Tianming's messenger, informing her that the rescue was successful and earnestly requesting that she personally go to the site.

Gu Qinlan acted decisively, changed her clothes before going out, and stepped out of the house with Hongye and Fuyu, who had recently recovered from her injuries.

Although Fuyu still had scabs on her forehead from the wounds, it didn't hinder her from walking. The three of them went straight to Aunt Lian's residence.

Aunt Lian was already waiting at the door. When she saw them arrive, she immediately went to greet them and led them into the courtyard. As she closed the door, she carefully looked around to make sure that no one in the neighborhood noticed anything unusual about her house.

After stepping into the courtyard, Gu Qinlan asked, "Aunt Lian, is there some hidden story behind the girl who was rescued?"

Aunt Lian replied in a low voice, "That young lady has an extraordinary identity, but no matter how we ask her, she refuses to reveal a single detail, only saying that she must wait for you to come."

Gu Qinlan's curiosity was piqued. "Then I'll trouble Aunt Lian to lead the way. I'll go take a look now."

Aunt Lian immediately led the three of them through the corridor and into the backyard.

Aunt Lian's family was small, living in a two-courtyard house, and the rescued girl was placed in the only guest room in the house.

Aunt Lian gently knocked on the guest room door: "Miss, the person you've been waiting for has arrived. Please open the door."
