June 7, 2003.
The blazing sun poured down on the earth, adding a touch of fervor and solemnity to the college entrance examination that captivated countless hearts.
The sky was a deep, pure blue, and the air was filled with the unique freshness of early summer.
Occasionally.
A few long car horns echoed from the depths of the streets and alleys, their sound particularly loud in the surrounding tranquility, as if the entire county was silently awaiting the college entrance examination.
This year.
The college entrance examination policy in this province is particularly unique. It is the only time in the province's history that there is no distinction between arts and sciences, and all candidates must take a comprehensive exam covering all subjects such as physics, chemistry, biology, history, geography, and politics.
On the first morning, we took a math exam.
The examination room was so quiet you could hear a needle falling to the ground, with only the scratching of pens on paper, like silkworms chewing mulberry leaves.
Wang Juan took a deep breath, her eyes bright, and quickly scanned the test paper before finally settling on the last two math word problems.
When those familiar questions came into view, I felt a surge of excitement.
That was a question type that she and Liu Feng had discussed and refined countless times. Every step and every thought process was as clear as if it were yesterday.
Her mood lightened, she gripped her pen tightly, and quickly immersed herself in answering the questions, the pen tip dancing merrily on the paper.
In the afternoon, there was a Chinese language exam.
When the essay topic was presented to her, a hint of surprise flashed in Wang Juan's eyes. The topic was "The closeness or distance of emotions and the correctness or depth of understanding of things," a theme she was not unfamiliar with.
Without hesitation, she picked up her pen, and the words danced across the paper like lively sprites.
She meticulously cited historical and contemporary examples, vividly illustrating how people can fall into cognitive traps due to emotional closeness or distance, and warning people to be wary of being misled by emotions and to maintain objective and fair cognition.
A masterpiece, flowing smoothly and completed in one go.
Meanwhile, on another battlefield, Yu Jingya and Liu Xiaoling also seemed to receive divine assistance, performing exceptionally well.
June 10th, afternoon.
There were two exams, the last one being history. Only when the invigilator announced the end of the exam and began collecting the papers did the students in the exam room snap out of their daze, realizing that this long and tense battle was finally over.
As they left the examination room, everyone reacted in different ways.
Some students couldn't wait to start comparing answers, and arguments rose and fell. Others remained silent, heads down, walking toward the school gate, their faces filled with exhaustion and anxiety.
Liu Feng was already waiting outside the examination hall. When he saw Wang Juan come out, a warm smile appeared on his face.
Their eyes met, and without a word, they understood each other perfectly.
In that instant, time seemed to stand still, and only the unspoken understanding between them flowed in the air.
And so everything came to a close.
As night fell and the curtain fell, everyone's pent-up emotions finally found an outlet.
Surrounded by her classmates, Wang Juan sang, drank, and went online together. That night, the students on campus seemed to have shed all their constraints, fully enjoying the release and freedom after the college entrance examination.
Internet cafes, KTVs, and movie theaters were packed with people. Occasionally, we would run into familiar classmates, greet each other warmly, and share the joy and relief that comes after the college entrance examination.
Liu Feng originally planned to go home early because in his youthful world, there were very few people he truly cared about; others were just fleeting passersby in his life.
However, as soon as he stepped out of the school gate, he heard two familiar voices. Li Yu was waiting at the gate, and Zhu Shuang was following behind him.
Their calls made Liu Feng stop in his tracks.
