The indoor lighting is dim, and the pale yellow light gives people a unique sense of warmth.
Josiah waited patiently for a while, and when he saw that Lingling had fallen asleep, he tiptoed out of the room.
He has to go meet the Elf King and can't rest yet.
The territory is very quiet at night. There is a slight rustling sound when stepping on the grass, and sometimes you can hear slight noises coming from some houses not far away.
The elves all go to bed early, claiming that it is good for their health.
In fact, Josiah also knew why. Because this group of "special" elves had not had any carnivals, celebrations or entertainment in the tribe for a long time, so the tribesmen all went to bed early.
Twenty years ago, evil spirits invaded the entire continent. Except for the Tree People who were somehow not affected, all other humanoid races had members who were affected.
People controlled by evil spirits will become extremely ferocious, killing everyone they meet uncontrollably. The entire continent will be shrouded in blood for a while.
All tribes fought fiercely both inside and outside the tribe until a huge earthquake occurred. The evil spirits suddenly retreated, and people gradually controlled the people who were affected. Only then did all tribes resume their peaceful lives.
When the earthquake occurred, each race had more or less great magicians and took defensive measures, so they were not greatly affected.
Instead, those who were infected by evil spirits became troublesome creatures.
Those who were left behind at that time were those whose strength was greatly reduced after the earthquake, whose sanity was still there, and whose hands were not stained with the blood of their own people.
Therefore, after the war, all ethnic groups still actively tried to rescue them.
No one knew how to restore those people's sanity completely, until the Elf King tried purification magic and was pleasantly surprised to find that it was effective against evil spirits. Only then did people feel a lifeline.
Since then, the Elf King has left his territory to provide medical treatment to various tribes for a fee.
Of course, before leaving, the Elf King first purified and treated his people, arranged the affairs of the tribe, and then left with peace of mind.
As a result, two months later, the Elf King returned and found that although he had indeed cured the people of other tribes who were controlled by evil spirits, his own people had developed sequelae.
I don't know if it's because the elves' magic has the same origin or for some other reason.
On the second day after the Elf King left, hideous black patterns like dead tree bark appeared on the faces of the elves who had been infected by the evil spirit, occupying most of their faces.
Even the next generation of elves had it, and this was discovered through Josiah.
Josiah's mother was pregnant at the time, and the Elf King used purification magic to remove the evil spirit from her, but she still had a difficult delivery and died after giving birth to Josiah.
His father was already seriously injured and overwhelmed with grief over the loss of his beloved wife. He died soon after and entrusted Josiah to the tribe before his death.
But after about ten days, the elves discovered that the same hideous pattern appeared on Josiah's little face as on the other elves.
It was already extremely difficult for the elves to reproduce, and with the incident of Josiah, they were even more afraid to have children.
The elves then realized the seriousness of the problem and hurriedly went to find the Elf King with Josiah on the first day of his return.
The Elf King tried various methods but was helpless. He has been researching and looking for a solution over the years.
Josiah didn't know if he was impulsive, but he wanted to save himself and his people. He wanted to grab even a glimmer of hope.
"Who? Stop!"
When they were almost at the Elf King's castle, the guard vaguely saw a figure approaching and shouted loudly.
Josiah quickly spoke up: "It's me, Josiah, seeking an audience with the Elf King."
The guarding elf was stunned. He knew Josiah. Not only him, but the whole tribe knew him and felt sorry for him. He lost his parents when he was young and was tortured by evil spirits.
I always care about him when I meet him on the road, and help him whenever I can.
Even when Josiah was a child, he was raised by the Elf King himself, but when he grew up and could live on his own, he moved out to live on his own.
The guard's tone softened. "Josiah, it's night. What do you want from the Elf King? If it's not urgent, I can convey it to you."
Josiah sensed the change in the guard elf's attitude and gently declined, "No, this matter is quite important. I need to meet with the Elf King to discuss it in detail. Please inform him."
The guard smiled and waved his hand after hearing this: "No need. The Elf King has instructed us that if you need anything, you can go directly to him. Go in, you know the way."
Josiah was startled for a moment, but then his heart warmed, his steps became lighter, and he walked straight into the door that the guard opened for him.
Josiah walked up the spiral staircase covered with gorgeous carpets and reached the top floor of the castle as if he was familiar with the place. He walked slowly to the door of the only room.
"Dear Elf King, I apologize for disturbing you so late at night."
"Josiah?" A familiar voice came from inside, low, clear and pleasant.
"Yes, Elf King." Josiah responded a little nervously.
He hasn't seen the Elf King for a long time.
In an instant, the door opened quickly from the inside, and the Elf King in a silk nightgown appeared in front of the door.
He hugged Josiah.
"Oh~ My dear Xiaoya, you finally came to see me. Woo woo~"
The tall Elf King Thor buried his head in Josiah's neck and cried like a little child.
Josiah couldn't help but curl the corners of his mouth, with a smile on his face.
"Okay, okay, I'm here, aren't I?" He pushed Thor's shoulder.
