As the saying goes, perseverance pays off. After the chipmunk's persistent digging, it was finally able to confirm that the location of the burrow had not changed!
Its largest warehouse is still there!
But the chipmunk that had dug down didn't continue. Its dark eyes were fixed on the fish skull in its paws, and the chipmunk really wanted to take a bite.
I don't know why, but ever since I saw this thing, its roots have been itching terribly, and it really wants to gnaw on it.
Although it had been buried for several days, the scent of a tiger was still present on it. The chipmunk hesitated, thinking that this was something that its little tiger disliked the most.
But then I thought, the tiger family had all fled for their lives and probably wouldn't be coming back.
So the chipmunk hugged the fish skull tightly and happily crunched it.
If courage were present, it would be a mixture of anger and surprise.
This fish skull was the same one from the previous spirit fish. None of the tigers in the family could break through its defenses, but this little thing crushed it in just a few bites.
The fish skull wasn't big, and the chipmunk quickly devoured it all.
Feeling full in its belly, the chipmunk patted its little belly contentedly.
Squeak! This bone is delicious!
It wasn't just one chipmunk digging for food in this icy wasteland.
The surviving animals were desperately searching for food. Although the plants buried under the snow were struggling to grow due to the cold, the faint spiritual energy permeating the world constantly gave them life and encouraged them to grow.
Streaks of resilient green grow quietly beneath the ice and snow in the caves.
In the forest, patches of snow and ice were being cleared away, and a herd of red deer walked through the thick snow. Their limbs were gradually freezing, but they did not give up. They continued to brave the wind and snow, working hard to dig through the snow.
The lead male elk, with its enormous antlers, continuously used them to push aside the snow in front of it, its powerful hooves carving a path forward on the snow.
A female red deer followed closely behind it. Both were twice the size of their kin and had thicker fur than their kin, making them very conspicuous in the herd.
The deer behind them were also different from before; their fur was several times thicker and their bodies were much stronger, but they had not yet mutated.
The herd of red deer has thick, soft, and long fur, enough to protect them from the increasingly cold temperatures.
The lead pair of deer were pure white, making them easy to hide in the snow. It was obvious that they had broken through to become level one spirit beasts, possessing superior physiques and abilities.
But they did not abandon their kind because of their sudden increase in strength. Behind them, a dozen or so red deer lined up and followed closely, braving the wind and snow, walking on the path cleared by the male red deer.
The male elk was running out of strength. Panting, it looked back at its kin following closely behind, a hint of confusion in its eyes.
Why is my hair different from that of my kind? Why am I suddenly no longer afraid of the cold?
Why winter has become so terrible, and why the forest is no longer the familiar sight it once was—it has no way of knowing, nor can it fathom the reasons behind these things.
At this moment, the only thing it knows and can do is to follow its intuition and keep moving forward.
Until they found a place to rest in the cruel snowstorm.
When the giant doe saw the stag slow down, she stepped forward and replaced him.
It doesn't have the giant antlers of a stag; it only has a pair of small, newly emerging antlers on its head. These young antlers can't help it clear a path; it can only trample the snow with its hooves and then use its head to push through the snow.
The female deer moved slower, and the herd naturally slowed down as well, but no deer cried out or complained.
They walked silently in the wind and snow, waiting for their kin to take a step ahead, and then immediately raised their frozen limbs to follow.
Every red deer was covered in snowflakes; its head and back were entirely covered in white snow.
Those bewildered eyes couldn't see through the swirling snow, yet they still walked on with unwavering determination.
The herd of red deer moved slowly through the forest, their thick fur gradually being completely covered by snow. They walked in deep snow gullies, as if they had become one with the snow.
The tenacity of life is fully displayed at this moment.
Many large and medium-sized animals in the forest, like red deer, choose to migrate in search of new habitats.
Most of them have grown new, thick fur, which helps them withstand wind, snow, and cold, giving them a chance to survive in drastically changing environments.
Although animals are better able to withstand the cold than ever before, smaller animals still lack the ability to travel long distances.
They can only try to huddle together, dig a large enough burrow under the thick snow, and then squeeze together with their kin for warmth.
By the fourth day, most of the animals had grown fur strong enough to withstand the cold, thanks to the spiritual energy. Perhaps the most urgent need for living beings in the cold was to keep warm, so they subconsciously used all their spiritual energy to keep warm. Maybe this is what is called genetic selection.
…………
"Hiss..."
The sound of shoveling snow was incredibly crisp, because much of the snow had already turned into ice.
Courage and Tiger Mom quickly dug through the snowdrift and unearthed a roe deer.
This is an ordinary roe deer that is frozen stiff. Judging from the situation, it probably couldn't withstand the cold and froze to death.
Although spiritual energy has provided opportunities for survival for countless living beings, many animals still fail to break through their limitations.
The weak are destined to be eliminated.
The tiger mother, unable to exert force with her injured front paws, watched as Courage tore the hard roe deer apart and brought the food to her.
