Yao Yao leaned against Afu's back and closed her eyes to rest. Under the hood, the little girl's fair and tender face was no longer childish. She looked very innocent. Hei Tong timidly raised his head slightly, and his once helpless and bewildered eyes now carried a hint of determination.
"Yaoyao, you've had a good haul today. Here's your and Afu's money." A slender woman smiled and handed ten silver coins to Yaoyao.
The little girl took the silver coin, glanced at the woman with her dark eyes, and said with a tight mouth, "Auntie, it's too little."
The woman smiled back at her, but did not answer or take any more money out of her purse, as if she had made up her mind.
Yao Yao stared at her for a while, and finally could only pull down her hood, silently put away the silver coins, and climb onto Afu's back.
The big yellow dog suddenly stood up, turned around and growled fiercely at the woman, but suppressed its temper under the soothing actions of its young mistress.
This place is full of humans, and if the little owner wants to live a good life, it cannot harm humans.
Afu knew the rules of living in the city, so even though it sensed its little master's emotions and felt angry, it couldn't really do anything to the bad human who was bullying its little master.
Afu was very disappointed and frustrated. It felt that it hadn't taken good care of its little master. It had thought about taking its little master away from the human settlements, but the little master was too young...
With a sense of loss and helplessness, the mighty yellow dog walked step by step towards the outside of the square.
The woman looked at the backs of the person and the dog with a hint of mockery and a smile. If it weren't for the fact that the monster only listened to the little girl, her team wouldn't have brought such a burden along.
From the woman's perspective, she was already very conscientious to accept Yao Yao and give her enough money to live on.
The world today is not like it used to be; the elderly, children, and women have no special privileges.
After all, there are pitiful people everywhere, and who can sympathize with them all? Even the army can't manage them.
The people in the square were surprised and curious when they saw the giant Afu, or they were afraid and tried to avoid it, but it did not cause any trouble.
Although it's rare to see monsters in the city, they do exist; there are currently six such creatures like Afu in Liang City.
Most of them are cat- or dog-like monsters. Pets raised by humans have a high probability of evolving and continuing to stay with their owners.
Unfortunately, the changes brought about by the previous spiritual energy tides led to the mass killing of many cats and dogs by humans. Otherwise, in today's environment, many ordinary families would probably have a strong pet to rely on, so they wouldn't have to struggle so much.
Nowadays, very few people like Yao Yao have monster pets, and most of them are people who originally lived in the countryside.
The animals in the countryside were not hunted by the authorities, but human nature is the same: when animals mutate, humans will cook and kill them out of fear, leaving few domesticated animals behind.
Animals that are lucky enough to survive must also have the talent to evolve into spirit beasts, and have a deep bond with their owners.
These conditions may seem few, but they are very difficult to achieve. And these lucky individuals, relying on their pets, enjoy the same treatment as those with superpowers in Liang City.
As Yao Yao watched the setting sun, she hugged her leather pouch tightly. The silver coins inside made a soft clinking sound, but there were only a few, just over twenty.

It wasn't that she and Afu lacked ability or effort, but rather that Afu and she consumed too much. Just food alone cost her 3 silver coins a day. Add to that the cost of going to the city and other daily expenses, and she barely had enough money to get by.
Wearing worn-out gloves, Yao Yao touched her rumbling tummy and sadly pursed her lips.
She knew that the adults in the group were deliberately bullying her, and that she was always given the least amount of money.
But she had no choice. The adults in the group only squeezed money out of her, but at least they gave her a share each time, so she and Afu could make a living in the city.
If she were to switch teams, she feared that once she left the city and entered the forest, she would be used as cannon fodder by those despicable adults again...
She didn't want Afu to encounter such a dangerous situation again, and she was also afraid of encountering such a thing again.
Yao Yao knew that the reason they were in such a passive position was because Afu was very powerful, while she was very weak. If she were also powerful enough and had superpowers...
Thinking of the new notice she had just seen in the square, Yao Yao clenched her little hands.
We absolutely must switch to the military's cultivation method!
Amo and Axu's eyes lit up when they saw the somewhat familiar big yellow dog, but their cautious habits prevented them from making a sound. They quietly followed the big yellow dog for a while.
"Woof!"
"
Suddenly, Afu turned around and roared fiercely behind it, a warning from it.
It cannot attack humans indiscriminately in the city, so it can only issue warnings first.
Yao Yao clung tightly to Afu. Although she had experienced many things like being robbed on the road, she was still nervous and scared.
"A-Fu?!" A-Xu called out uncertainly.
He was familiar with Afu's appearance, but the current Afu was much bigger and looked more ferocious. He wasn't sure, since big yellow dogs all looked pretty much the same, and after the mutation, it was really hard to recognize them.
The main problem is that Yao Yao was completely covered up, making her even harder to identify. Otherwise, they would have been able to recognize her immediately upon seeing her.
"Brother Xu...?" Looking at the dark-skinned young man in the sunset, Yao Yao was both happy and confused. She didn't know if she had mistaken him for someone else, but she was really happy.
