Chapter 183 A Bag of Salt

When it comes to digging, rats are professionals! Lin Qian was quick and soon turned a ruin upside down. Yes, he was very aggressive, his tiger claws ripping up a whole section with a whooshing sound.

Such a commotion naturally caught the attention of the humans who had just survived the ordeal. Seeing the ferocious beast outside, everyone hid again.

Don't be fooled by the fact that it's just one tiger; they can't beat it.

Moreover, they didn't know if any other animals would come this time, so it was best to avoid them.

These people are all locals from the north. Most of them are not native city dwellers, but mountain people living near the primeval forests.

During the severe snowstorm, these mountain people fled from the mountains and came across this dilapidated city. Although the city was no longer prosperous, most of them chose to stay. They couldn't find their way, and if they continued onward, they would probably find it difficult to find the city again.

For the mountain people, tigers hold a deep reverence, a reverence unlike the fear they feel towards other wild beasts, but rather tinged with a sense of mystery and longing. Almost every mountain dweller has heard the legends about tigers, the kind they've heard since childhood.

For generations, our ancestors relied on the primeval forest for their livelihood, and there really were tigers in that forest.

At that time, humans had great awe for nature, and the image of tigers frequently appeared in sacrificial activities. In some mountainous areas, tigers were even regarded as mythical figures such as divine messengers and were worshipped and offered sacrifices.

The image of tigers in people's minds has been mysterious and awe-inspiring since ancient times. Ancient artifacts such as "tiger tally" reflect people's yearning for the power of tigers.

Tigers hold a significant place in the culture of the Xia people, which has subtly influenced their perception of tigers to be quite different from that of other wild animals.

Although tigers are not as intelligent as humans, they are not less intelligent than other animals. Historically, tiger attacks on humans have been rare, far less harmful than those caused by bears, wolves, or other wild animals. In fact, tigers rarely appear in front of humans.

This is one of the reasons why people in the past felt that tigers were mysterious and attributed them with a mystical aura.

However, in modern times, due to human hunting and other factors, the number of tigers has decreased significantly, causing the king of beasts to disappear from the mountains and forests.

The implementation of the national repatriation program decades ago was quite a spectacle.

(Please don't apply this to reality; it's set in a parallel universe.)

They never expected that the rare species that everyone was discussing so enthusiastically would now be alive and well in front of them, and that it would pose a huge threat to them.

After the massive earthquake, technology collapsed and order was destroyed. Humans instantly went from being bystanders to becoming part of the forest ecosystem. They were no longer superior and looked down on other species. Humans lost all the conveniences and the right to survive.

The moment humanity lost its civilized order, the tiger became their "king".

The ruins were in complete disarray. At first, Lin Qian couldn't find anything useful because the places that could be searched by humans had already been looted.

The chipmunk, being agile, found quite a few things, which it stored in the little guy's space. Whether they're useful or not is anyone's guess.

Chipmunks don't know what's useful. They just collect whatever they see that's intact. They collect without any regard for sorting.

Compared to the chipmunks' abundant harvest, Lin Qian's was much more meager.

There were quite a few items salvaged from the ruins, including many large pieces of furniture such as wardrobes, TV cabinets, tables and chairs, and more than a dozen beds.

There were quite a few scattered items, but Lin Qian ignored them. Not seeing any salt, Lin Qian kept searching.

"Squeak!" King Tiger, the mouse has found a lot of things!

The chipmunk darted out from the crack, its fluffy fur covered in mud and dust, looking rather dusty, but its dark eyes shone like light bulbs.

(?w?)

"Oh." Hmm, let's take a look.

Upon receiving the answer, the chipmunk immediately jumped onto a relatively flat open space. With a wave of its little paws, piles of things appeared. Although the little guy didn't know the purpose of these items, it still categorized them according to its own preferences.

Well, actually, it's distinguished by softness/hardness and color.

Seeing how excited it was, Lin Qian stopped moving. He figured the little guy would find more things than he did if it continued searching.

Stepmother and Courage also came over, and the poor boy was immediately tied up by Stepmother's big tail.

The white tiger was very clever; seeing that the man's courage was neither high nor low, it swiftly finished the job.

The stepmother was a size bigger than Lin Qian and his brother, with a thick and strong tail. She could lift a boy who weighed less than 100 pounds without any difficulty.

However, he couldn't be carried like that for too long, since the tail wasn't the point of leverage, and it would easily become sore and tiring if it was too heavy. The boy, bound by the tiger's tail, was both frightened and amazed. Looking at the white, fluffy tiger fur under the moonlight, his attention quickly wandered.

White tigers are quite different from humans, let alone a white tiger as handsome and divine as my stepmother.

"Squeak~" The chipmunk chirped happily at Courage, proclaiming how useful it was!

The chipmunk still remembered how Courage had treated it, so it seized every opportunity to demonstrate its abilities to Courage, determined to show this tiger cub its worth!
