The severed vines retracted into the soil, and in the blink of an eye, even more vines sprouted.
The ants and vines engaged in a fierce battle, their attacks and bites continuing unabated. Meanwhile, in a nearby city, all of humanity had gathered beneath a large, mysterious, verdant tree.
The tree emitted a faint glow, and the shape of fruit was already faintly visible on the flower-covered canopy.
A little girl stood under a big tree, facing the crowd. She sat quietly cross-legged, her eyes closed, muttering something as if she were praying.
The others knelt with their hands clasped together in silence, as if they were silently praying along with the girl.
Beneath the almost silent tree, not a single person moved an inch because of the sounds coming from outside the city; they seemed completely unaware.
After a long while, the commotion outside the city subsided, and the ant colony was routed, with only a small group of ants on the periphery managing to leave safely.
The tattered vines seemed unaffected, their tips tapping the ground rapidly.
Upon closer inspection, one could see that the ants, which had already grown to the size of a fist, were being devoured one by one by the spreading vines.
The mutated ant colony that had ravaged most of the basin, leaving nothing but barren land, was thus defeated.
Everything has its natural enemy; this is probably the principle. Perhaps this can be considered a cycle of cause and effect. The ant colony evolved itself by devouring plants that absorbed the energy of rainwater, and then its colony was devoured by an even more powerful mutated plant to strengthen itself.
In the city.
The girl under the tree opened her doubled eyes and looked down at the crowd praying silently. Her childish voice rang out, "The divine tree has spoken, the crisis is over." Her tone was solemn yet calm and indifferent, like a puppet.
"Thank you, Tree God!"
"Tree God!"
The crowd seemed to be released from pause, instantly boiling over with a cacophony of voices filled with reverence and anticipation, the atmosphere of fervor escalating rapidly.
Meanwhile, in the ruins outside the city, figures hidden in the shadows watched as vines devoured ants, feeling no pleasure, but rather immense fear.
"Boss, the Tree God has become even stronger!" A dark-skinned, thin young man exclaimed in surprise as he looked at the scene outside. His clenched hands even trembled slightly.
The young man known as the leader watched the vines clearing the battlefield with a deep and mysterious gaze. He had faint spiritual energy fluctuations emanating from him, a characteristic of someone who had just broken through to become a level one ability user.
These people hiding in the shadows are also survivors of the city, but they are not believers in the Great Tree.
When the tree blossomed and those foolish survivors were seduced into believing in the so-called "divine tree," some "atheists" chose to leave, but by then, it was too late.
Those who left had just reached the edge of the city when they were blocked by countless vines. When they took out their weapons to attack the vines, they lost their chance to survive.
Those who came after them, seeing this situation, naturally dared not force their way through and could only flee back to the city in panic, but they witnessed the terrible scene firsthand.
They returned to the city, and naturally, they were even less inclined to believe that the mutated tree was some kind of divine tree that could save humanity!
That's a devil tree!
As for why the tree hadn't harmed the humans in the city, they didn't know, but they knew that staying there meant certain death.
But what good is knowing? They can't leave the city, they can't leave the area shaded by the big trees!
"Let's go back to the city." The man's voice was hoarse with extreme helplessness. Before he awakened, he firmly believed that he and his group could find a way to avoid the vines of the big tree and find a way to leave.
But now, the enhanced senses and warnings brought by spiritual power make him feel deeply powerless.
Faced with such a terrifying behemoth, their previous persistent probing and perseverance seemed like a joke.
He now understood that the reason they had survived until now was not because they were careful enough, nor because they were smart, but because they were simply not taken seriously!
