Chapter 28 Forest Ecology

Male tigers do not have to assume the responsibilities of a father, but they simply do not help raise the child or provide food; however, they are unambiguous when it comes to protecting the child.

Male tigers will allow female tigers who raise their offspring to forage for food in their territory, and will also allow their underage offspring to enter their territory to forage.

A responsible male tiger will occasionally leave some food for his wife and children.

Of course, the male tiger's kindness was only directed at his own cubs.

If it discovers another tiger or cub foraging in its territory, it will kill it without hesitation.

The mother tiger busied herself nearby for a while, leaving her mark before letting out a soft growl at her cubs.

"Roar~" This is how our tiger clan divides territory. Learn it well, or you'll be silly and won't know how later.

Having received her tiger mom's instruction, Lin Qian immediately obediently went over and rubbed against her, indicating that she had learned it all.

Courage, still somewhat bewildered, looked down at the tree trunk, then at Tiger Mom and his brother.

"Ouch~" Mom, I've failed at learning too~

The mother tiger wagged her tail contentedly and led her cubs to a nearby place suitable for resting. Her territory was quite large, and there was plenty of room to run around in one go.

The tiger cubs are still too young for long journeys, so the rest of the trip will have to be taken slowly.

Lin Qian understood when he saw that Tiger Mom didn't lead them back.

Marking territory is a huge undertaking for tigers, and it's impossible for the mother tiger and her two cubs to finish it in a day. They're probably looking for a place to rest now.

Following Tiger Mom, Lin Qian was extremely careful the whole way, afraid that she would miss the cameras installed in the forest.

He had only walked about 100 meters when he spotted a second black box, with the same shape, so it must be the same model.

Lin Qian did not find the black box again on the rest of the journey until Tiger Mom stopped.

However, besides the cameras installed by humans, Lin Qian also made many other discoveries along the way.

There are also many shrubs, including trees, wild apples, and rhododendrons.

He also saw many wild fruits, with wild grapes being the most abundant.

Summer is the season when dry grapes ripen. The dry grape vines are not tall, usually just over 1 meter, so they are particularly noticeable.

Oh, and daylily too. He recognized it immediately; he used to love eating it cold.

However, now that he's a tiger, his sense of taste is different from a human's, so he didn't try it.

Well, the main thing is that you can only eat it raw and chew it dry, so it's not very meaningful.

There were also many wildflowers and wild fruits, but he could only recognize a dozen or so of them.

There were even more unfamiliar plants, leaving Lin Qian dazzled.

The vegetation in this primeval forest is lush and verdant, full of vitality.

With abundant and healthy vegetation, the herbivores in this forest must be doing quite well.

Thinking of the little animals they encountered along the way, Lin Qian couldn't help but feel his mouth water. If the herbivores are full, then we carnivores can eat even more!

Perfect!

Lin Qianzhen never expected that there would be such a protected area with such a good ecological environment; it was beyond his imagination!

Although he recently discovered the existence of mysterious energy, this energy is obviously a very small part and not part of the overall environment, so it shouldn't be able to affect the entire forest's ecology so quickly.

So the natural environment here must have always been like this. It seems that those who keep talking about environmental protection haven't been doing nothing after all.

Lin Qian sighed, completely unaware that another possibility might exist.

He is now filled with gratitude that the area they live in has a good environment, which is why his family of tigers can live well.

If forest resources are scarce and environmental pollution is severe, then no matter how much they roam the mountains and forests, they will become a miserable, penniless leader.

Summer and autumn are better, but when winter comes, heavy snow blocks the mountains, and there is a possibility of starving to death.

The food chain is a pyramid, with herbivores at the bottom.

Despite their small size, they have the strongest reproductive capacity and the most resilient survival ability in the entire food chain.

On the contrary, predators and birds of prey at the top of the food chain, such as tigers, are most vulnerable to attack. Any adverse change in the food chain could lead to their extinction.

Herbivores, on the other hand, have no such worries. They can easily survive with just a patch of grass and a little water.

In contrast, carnivorous beasts and birds of prey need suitable territories to survive and reproduce. These conditions include a long-term supply of food, dense forests and grasslands that allow them to hide and hunt, and a vast wilderness where they can roam freely.

Putting everything else aside, just considering food, it's much harder for them than for herbivores. Obtaining meat in the forest is definitely much more difficult than finding plants that are readily available everywhere.

In fact, the predators at the top of the food chain are not only predators, but also protectors.

When herbivores eat more and reproduce more, predators will hunt more to prevent the destruction of forest vegetation and thus stabilize the ecological environment.

If herbivores eat too little and have difficulty reproducing, predators will tighten their belts and eat less in order to ensure the survival of their prey.

Despite their low intelligence, wild animals consciously follow the laws of nature and have their own set of rules for survival.

During normal hunting, predators will prioritize killing old and injured herbivores to eliminate those that cannot survive and reproduce normally.

When necessary, they may even help wild boars hunt wolves and help red deer drive away brown bears in order to maintain the reproduction of their food sources.

Therefore, although wild animals do not possess advanced intelligence, they have maintained complex tasks generation after generation. In this interconnected food chain, every link is extremely important.

Like a precision instrument, any malfunction in any gear can have a huge impact and lead to an irreversible outcome.

Every species and every group in the forest depends on each other for survival; if any one of them is missing, problems will arise.

After passing through a dense thicket of bushes, the view suddenly opened up, with no dense bushes or tall trees obstructing the view.

Courage saw the wide meadow and happily ran forward, its short limbs flailing about, crushing the wild grass along the way.

With Tiger Mom following closely behind, Courage suddenly became fearless and jumped around wildly.

The tigress was very concerned about the safety of her cubs. Seeing that the cubs were running fast, she took big strides and followed closely behind.

Lin Qian had no choice but to quicken his pace and follow behind the mother and son.

Fortunately, there were no boulders or bushes on the hillside, so the whole situation was clearly visible, and if there was any danger, Tiger Mom could see it immediately.

Ordinary, unsuspecting predators will usually run away at the first sign of a tigress nursing her cubs, as everyone knows that tigresses are even more ferocious and suspicious than male tigers when they are caring for their cubs.

Of course, some carnivores don't take the tigress's threat seriously.
