Chapter 288, Day 1 2 (shuhaige.net)

The environment where the Snow Wolf King lived was also very special; it was a desolate place with jagged rocks and cracks caused by the heat.

Huge black rocks are visible, and there are intricate, narrow cracks in the rocks and the ground. These cracks are filled with rolling heat waves and occasionally burst out a spray of sparks.

Heat, thick smoke, and flames filled the entire area.

The "Dream Wolf," living in the frigid far north, had never faced such heat before, and the sweltering environment made the Snow Wolf King very uncomfortable.

Fortunately, although the heat was uncomfortable, it did not harm the Snow Wolf King; it simply disliked the change in environment.

"Hmph." With a light snort, the Snow Wolf King swept his spiritual energy around, instantly dispelling the heat from his body. The Snow Wolf King was still willing to use a little spiritual energy.

The enormous white wolf slowly walked between the black and red, its silver fur illuminated by the flashes of crimson fire, turning it a golden-red. In an instant, the Snow Wolf King's figure appeared both divine and eerie.

"Sizzle!"

Sparks danced within the cracks, emitting a distinctive crackling sound. The rising heat surged out of the cracks, twisting and swaying as it ascended into the air, like the outstretched claws of a monster, chaotic and dangerous. Yet, the heat dissipated in an instant, leaving everything as fleeting as an illusion.

The Snow Wolf King was unaware of any strange phenomena. It lived between heaven and earth, and everything it saw and knew was of the nature of heaven and earth.

So it stood before the crack from which heat emanated, its icy blue eyes gazing silently with a hint of curiosity.

"Sizzle! Sizzle! Sizzle!"

The leaping flames brought out heat waves, accompanied by a series of disordered yet seemingly rhythmic hissing sounds. The flames continued to leap and jump, gradually becoming uninteresting as the Snow Wolf King watched.

The enormous wolf king yawned, seemingly bored, and a hint of warmth shone through his half-closed wolf eyes, just as it had during countless moments of drowsiness before.

"Sizzle!"

A normal sound of flames rang out, and then suddenly everything changed!

A strange heat wave rushed towards them, like sharp claws, aiming straight for the Snow Wolf King's eyes!

"Pfft!" A silver-white wolf claw swept across, and the sound of gas breaking apart rang out instantly, killing the strange attacker in an instant.

The distortion caused by the heatwave was only momentary, and the timing of the attack was excellent, but the Snow Wolf King's counterattack precisely killed it.

The Snow Wolf King flicked at the black crystal core with its claws, its eyes showing disdain, seemingly losing interest.

Amidst the changes brought about by the revival of spiritual energy, it had witnessed many strange things, and now that it had entered a completely new world, it would naturally not do anything foolish.

The leisurely stroll stems from confidence in one's own abilities, while the casual demeanor is merely an attempt to lure out lurking, unknown creatures.

Although the creature lurking in the crevice was very well hidden, the powerful Snow Wolf King had extremely sharp senses and detected the anomaly as soon as it approached the crevice.

However, this unknown creature was quite peculiar. Although its presence could be sensed, its form could not be captured, so the Snow Wolf King chose to "sit and wait for death."

Regardless of its intelligence after becoming a spirit beast, the Snow Wolf King's years of hunting experience and skills are enough to enable it to make correct and appropriate judgments. No matter what kind of creature it is, it will always have an innate vigilance when facing a creature powerful enough to threaten its life. The Snow Wolf King understood this when it noticed that the crevices were gradually "quieting down".

Since the unknown creature inside had consciously hidden itself and dared not show itself, it was probably a being weaker than itself. In that case, it had no choice but to boldly approach.

This is a gamble; the Snow Wolf King is betting that his judgment is correct, and also betting that the other party has little intelligence.

Sure enough, it made the right bet.

After observing the crack that was still spewing sparks for a while, but seeing no further movement from the unknown creature, the Snow Wolf King knew he couldn't catch any more fish and licked his lips, feeling rather bored.

Ugh, the creatures here are so timid, they're not even as interesting as the mutated beasts!

As the Snow Wolf King gradually disappeared into the distance, the sparks in these crevices seemed to leap with joy for a moment, the jumping flames rising two feet higher, and the distorted heat waves swaying as if they were delighted with something.

——————————

Now let's talk about the human side.

Amo and his group were prepared when they entered; all three of them, along with their dog, were tied together with ropes to prevent them from getting separated. They had already learned this lesson when they were separated upon entering the secret realm.

The same applies to the other squads. All those who can come here are superhumans, and the foundation of superhuman forces is the squad format. Each squad has a maximum of five members, and they are all bound to their teammates before entering the Nine Gates spatial passage.

Whether it was due to the effectiveness of the human "binding" strategy or some other reason, Amer and the others did not separate, and the three of them and the dog landed steadily together.

Their environment was the opposite of that of the Snow Wolf King.

All that could be seen was ice, which was exactly the kind of environment the Snow Wolf King preferred.

The extreme cold was unbearable for Amo and his two companions. Although the base had specially made and distributed combat suits, they were of no use against the cold.

Even though the Dragon Roar Base has restored a lot of technological capabilities this year, most of them are still basic, and the main focus is still on weapons. The combat uniforms they are using now are just some modifications of the original combat uniforms before the major earthquake.

Compared to food and other reserves, combat uniforms don't expire in just three years, so a lot of them were unearthed, which solved the clothing problem for the Dragon Roar base team.

Secondly, due to the hot weather, they naturally did not pay much attention to keeping their combat uniforms warm. Everything was focused on combat convenience and defense, so their ability to keep warm was almost negligible.
